I think it depends on the person. For me I completely agree that the family bond is very important, but I have friends who have awful families and for them I would say either love or friendship.
I agree, some people I know family means everything. Others cannot stand their families and so it's their friends or lovers. Then you get those "Bro's before Hoes" twats, who seem to treat women as disposable objects.

I'd say Lovers/Friends before Family, unless you have an especially strong bond with them. You choose them, so your bond is stronger I think.

I care about my family because of what they are not who they are. If I wasn't related to them then I know that from their personalities I would not have any affection for them at all.

Family for me is limited to parent/child and that to is limited to mother/son. I have absolutely no bond with my father nor do I consider much of a bond with my family. Do I have one? Yes of course, however it is not strong by any degree; thus I agree with the sense friends overrule family, with the exception of my mother who I have an exceptionally strong relationship with.

Covalent? That's what popped into my head anyways, a remnant of high school chemistry.

an ionic one!
Are we talking intramolecular or intermolecular here? Because I was going to say a hydrogen bond. Which I really thought the thread was going to be about.

The persons who said hydrogen and ionic bonds are wrong. It's strong force, the force which binds quarks and gluons into protons, neutrons etc.

Well, the strength of a chemical bond is a function of electronegativity and the valences involved. I personally prefer 3c-2e chemical bonds, because it's a case of 3 sharing 2, and that's just nice.

Well if you've ever read the book "Snuff" by Chuck Palahniuk, I think that kind of bond is the strongest.

Epoxy cement - you glue two people together with that and they can't reattach without peeling off thick layers of skin.

...not exactly strong though, is it? The strongest bond is the triple bond between two nitrogen atoms. Everybody knows that.
