What charity/volunteer work do you do?

I do volunteer work at an RSPCA charity shop in town. I absolutely love it, the people there are fantastic and everyone there are animal lovers. We're also the most stylish charity shop in town. If I could I'd do some volunteer work for the animal shelters, but unfortunately they are too far away. I can travel but I don't have the money to spend on travelling

At my university, there are a good many foreign students. One of the requirements for studying here is a working knowledge of English. Apart from regular classes in the language, there is a "conversation partner" volunteer program where the aforementioned students are partnered up with people(like me) who know the language well to practice English and conversing in it and learn more about the area and how to get around.

My first run at uni, and a little into highschool also, I used to help nurse native wildlife. Ringtail possums, brushtails ... snakes. I had a reptile keepers' licence, and plenty of terrariums.

Afterwards I got into various youth employment and homelessness charities that I'd help organise goods drives for. You know. Blankets, sleeping bags, petitioning state governments, making sure kids get enough to eat. Basic stuff. I should get into it again ...

The closest Id come these days is that I donate blood and plasma, Plasma donations are like blood donations but they take longer and you can do them every fortnight.

It's just that I don't actually know mine and I figured that might be a good way to find out while also, y'know, helping out in a small way. It's not like I'm using the blood for much anyway.

Baffle said yes in the UK and I can confirm that yes they do here in 'Merica as well. You don't find out right away (they got tests and whatnot) but you do get a blood donor card which has your blood type on it (I'm B Positive if you're ever in Minnesota and you need blood!)

Might want to consider donating via the ALYX machine if they use them up there. It extracts more of what they need and replaces what they don't really need. It injects an anti-coagulant back into your system, which made my lips tingle. Also, instead of being able to donate every 3 months you have to wait 4 months before donating via ALYX again.

Who needs red cells? Red cells are used to treat severe anemia or severe bleeding caused by trauma, surgery, burns or a bleeding disorder. Red cells are the most commonly tranfused blood product.

Last one was doing some charity admin work. The office I was working in had been closed for a year and only one guy had been working there since it reopened, so he kinda needed the help to get all the files, database and whatever else up to date.

Well ok, I did joined this charity group tp help boost my CV but that pretty much fail on both ends. It was a carer like group and while I did register with them, the only time that I did do charity work was just selling some donated book in a stand at the next town over for a few hours (I was unemployed so I had alot of time to spare despite how boring it was and only two people bought a book or two).
After that they never contacted me again for other charity works which is fine now seeing I got a job now.

Also lately there is a new furniture charity store openning soon and my parent pester me to signed up so I just make an excuse that I had dropped my CV in (fuck that, I ain't going to break my back over it and I ain't giving up my free time off from work as I already fed up with the limited free times I get these days).

I used to give blood, and would happily continue giving blood, but the Red Cross got a false positive for Hepatitis C on one of my blood tests and now I'm barred from ever giving blood again.

I volunteer out in the countryside around once a week where we typically carry out manual tasks to improve and maintain areas to benefit wildlife such as on local nature reserves or along the river. Been doing it for 5 or so years now. Get a good work out from it too.

But seriously, I give away free clothes to those that can't afford clothes at my local church... on both Easter and Thanksgiving... I prefer Thanksgiving, though... Other than that, I got nothing...

I'm super poor and so most of my game purchases come from Humblebundle offers.
As a result, when I selfishly support my gaming hobby I also supporting charity.

I also donate to goodwill rather than simply throw stuff away if that counts...

I'm not willing to sacrifice precious little free time to actually work for charity though. I've done this before and I'm sorry to say I never felt any overwhelming sense of satisfaction. It just felt like work but without the pay.

I work at a charity bookshop Monday mornings and help run a Youth Club Thursday evenings, including playing football (soccer).

I do roughly 10 hrs a week for a local mental institution, I don't do much yet, I'm mostly a Second pair of eyes and a conversation partner for both staff and residents, but I also try to keep an ear to the ground and I plan to make proposals to improve the institution, like getting new pay phones since the ones inside are shitty. I also plan to raise money to help pay for the improvements. However I wouldn't say that I'm any more virtuous for it since its part of my scholarship, but I do genuinely want to help and like my work there so there's something for it.

Yeah I think so, my first time was when I was 18, which was 8 years ago so im a little fuzzy on whether they told you straight away. I know when you get a blood donor card they put your blood type on that. I remember you mentioning being a Tasmanian like me so thats how itd work if you went in.

If donating blood counts as such then I'm on the right track because I donate twice a year (though I could do it more often).

In regards to actual work, however, I've come close to entertaining the possibility of doing some volunteering, but that's about it.
