Stealth and stabby, every time.

I guess that means rogue? I've never actually played a game that's let me explicitly pick rogue.

I'm a flighty, greedy bastard.
I like being able to do a little of EVRYTHING, if at all possible.

But I gravitate more towards heavy defensive capabilities first-- I LOVE to tank. :)

I go more toward melee than anything else. I avoid stealth-- mostly because I'm bad at it.

I really enjoy the defensive support-type characters; engineers and whatnot.

Most of al, I try to avoid overtly "magicky" classes/abilites, and use the more mundane options available to me.

Definitely a magic user. Prefer direct damage over summoning then defensive. I have never picked any race except altmer in any elder scrolls game since daggerfall due to this

I do play archer rouges usually as a second play through.
Same.

I just love being at range. xD Also the spells are usually very pretty to look at.

Depends on the game. The only MMO I really play is The Secret World, where I tend to go as DPS - I play a Templar Chaos swordswoman, so I tend to favour speed and high damage output. Can make some of the regular enemies tougher, but I usually play a pretty valuable role when I'm with a group...

For other games, stealthy is best. I like to deal long-range damage, as high as possible, without the enemy ever seeing me coming. That means always playing as a sniper or marksman in shooters (especially Halo - bit of a deadshot there...), or otherwise opting for characters or perks that let me sneak up on my foes.

Same applies really for RTS games. I like to build up a big army and use realistic military tactics, but then for games like Dawn of War and so on I'll always favour either the heavy firepower of the Tau Empire (who I also play as in the tabletop game, incidentally), of the sneakiness of the Eldar...

Summoner/Commander + Thief.
I steal everything that's not bolted to the floor, and then use the money/magic obtained to have henchmen fight for me.

For more shooter-type action games, I generally favor slower, heavier characters. That might be the obvious choice of something like the Heavy in TF2, but I also go for Sniper type characters. In shooters, I just prefer a more methodical approach.

In team games, I generally go for a supporting-type class. Whether it is to draw attention from a target while the team does the proper work or simply healing the rest.

And for more standard RPGs, I generally favor whatever ranged class there might be. Whether that's an archer or a mage or something of the sort.

In MMOs and multiplayer games I tend to want to go for the healer role. TF2 medic: 614 hours played.

However that's not always available, especially in single-player games. I'll just try to choose whatever's most interesting. Usually that does NOT involve a tank role. So boring. In Skyrim I can never find myself playing anything other than an illusionist sneaky ranger type, because there's nothing like making the enemy fight each-other and staying back shooting at the chaos from where it's safe.

Ranged in multiplayer, stealth in singleplayer games, pretty much exclusively. Fast ranged derps
WoW hunter, RO ranger, TF2 sniper
In singleplayer I really like stealth mechanics, Thief, MGS, and if I get a choice I'll go for stealth. I guess it's kind of cheap if a game isn't set up for that because of AI limitations but there's really nothing more fun than running around in VtM like an invisible Terminator with a sledgehammer.

[Multiple] "Swords"
Rushdown
Automatics with 200-500+ rounds
Black People

Other than that, for me, a good offense ends up becoming my great defense... I don't know how that works, but apparently I play a mean Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B., or Zero Suit Samus regardless...

Spellswords. Ranged and buffs with the spells, and the attacks and defence of a sword and armour. Preferably a 2-handed weapon (swords > axes > everything else), however sword and shield is also good when i'm feeling the need for more tank. Always plate armour, however I like to do plate/cloth splits if the game permits me.

In shooters I prefer the more standard assault rifle classes, or engineer style support classes.

I seem prefer stealth in games that support it.

In the Elder Scrolls franchise I enjoyed sneaking into keeps or caves filled with bandits and making difficult shots that either killed them outright or were finished off with another quickly sent arrow. I cannot accurately express the kind of giggles I had over how easily they gave up looking for me. Let alone the childish glee of hitting someone between their eyes, or -ahem- in a notable place and then earning a "must have been the wind" while they walked away, arrow jiggling about.

Dishonored was a joy to play, especially as the world's least effective assassin. No kill, no detection has become relatively easy after so much practice, to the point where I actively failed at bringing up my Chaos level for the two darker endings.

Oddly enough, in the Dragon Age games I opt out of the rogue class and go with a mage that specializes in heavy damage. Although... usually a sneaky mage?

Anything that makes it difficult for the enemy to actually attack me. I love applying conditions and avoiding damage, so I my favorite professions have been mesmers, conjurers, bards, and thieves. I love pranks and chaos so I suspect that's why I gravitate towards the same!

I usually go for healers, on account of the fact that I'm not all that competitive in terms of slaying those noobs, so I like to heal the people who can pull off all dem sick movez bruv. TF2's Medic is my favourite healer, I applaud whoever came up with that method of doing it so the healer is involved in the fighting. It really helped me when I first took baby steps into:

the Glass Cannon role. Scout in TF2, Mage in most other games. Being a healer allowed me to learn how to move about, dodge and shit. It makes playing classes designed for high damage in short bursts all the more cheerful.

I can't be bothered with the typical heavy brute role. I respect those who do it, but I personally prefer to fly off on a shooting star.

I like lockdown control the most. So my favourite DnD characters have been a paladin hyper defender in 4e who marked the battlefield with a hefty penalty and turtled and a wizard/bard who specialised in melee lockdown, particularly single target and was heavy on the leader. Made an excellent duelist.

In Dark Souls I've done everything but favour a 1h weapon and magic, trying to disorient and throw off the opponents' pace (or spam spells in pve) while using mobility to stay safe. Made a brutal miracle worker with several kill spells and a bit of emit force for the aoe...

Elder Scrolls it's all about the rogue for me, gotta pick those locks and investigate everything.

Dragon Age I usually go melee mage or control mage (or...both when a high enough level). DA:O had the fun combo of all the sustain spells ever with crushing prison and paralysis for the invincimages. DA2 I preferred the daggers rogue by FAR. DA:I I've only played a mage (knight enchanter) but tanking forever is kinda fun too.

TF2 I'm a pyro primarily...other shooters I usually go light and fast, preferring again to disorient and disrupt teams in pvp...

Basically I like lockdown and DPS and love to try and psyche or disrupt people in pvp.

When I played MMOs, I used to have to be whatever class gave myself and the group a movement bonus because I hated how long it took to get anywhere solo or in a group and even if I sucked, people still wanted to group because of the movement bonus.

In solo RPGs I usually try and pick a class that I know the AI party members are going to screw up, which is why I went the sniper route in Mass Effect. I usually travel alone in TES and Fallout games so there I go for a more rounded character but at least someone who can hack/lockpick anything.
If morality is in the game, then I'm usually thinking "fuck it" and go towards the negative side of the moral compass. Partly just to see how the writing changes when you're not being a messiah.

In Hearthstone I'm going for more swarm type decks but in MTG I used to always play red/blue because I like to always be able to throw a wrench in other ppl's plans.

Speed is usually the name of the game for me, so I focus on agile characters that move fast with little armor and extremely quick strikes with which to overwhelm an opponent. I like where there is more finesse involved. The glass cannon approach is also one I enjoy a lot; nothing like knowing you'll die in two hits but you hit so hard no one ever gets to make that second hit. I love charging in or ambushing enemies with little regard to whether I live or die. Sniping is also fun for a change of pace. I rarely play to win (and use cheats a lot in single player as I like exploring the limits of the game), so it's more just fun to be that quick little bit of chaos on the battlefield (I sure do miss Pichu in Smash Bros).

I also always play smart: so high engineering or lock picking or whatever. If I have to rely on another character to open a door or something I feel like I'm doing it wrong. And for some reason, it's impossible for me to be anything other than stealthy in a bethesda game; between speed and invisibility I'm like a deadly breeze. Also, I'm terrible at being a mage; it's just not a class which clicks with me.

I like being in your face, I tend to go for whatever most closely resembles a steam roller. but weapon style has a lot to do with it. If I can find a way to break something i'll run it. typically melee dps/tank has that going for it. I like cold builds as well but again it depends how it runs in game. the new sith sorcerer is all lighting and tons of fun in swtor. in DCU online, the hand blast style is bad ass so I run that as well as my ice/sword fighter main. I tend to like sword and shield because I love a good hard shield bash when done right. but a lot of times sword and shield isn't as much fun because they only build shields to block and never utilize them for offense. Duel wield and bare knuckle are also two of my favorite styles. I began a play through of kotor I never finished trying to run an entirely bare fisted fighter. the idea of a kung fu jedi has always intrigued me.
