I prefer the Everclear version of Brown Eyed Girl to the original Van Morrison song. Encountered them in the correct chronological order, just like the newer one better.

I'd have to say Starfucker's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

Yeah, I know, I know... Just trust me, give it a look.

Jeff Buckley's cover of "Hallelujah" is far and away the best one out there.
Since you've already covered that one, I'll just add Devotchkas version of "The last beat of my heart". I believe the original was by Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees, but that version is terrible.

I also like the instruments of Devotchkas "Venus in furs" more, but the lyrics don't come close to Lou Reeds awesomeness, so I can't call it a completely better version.

All along the Watchtower by Hendrix, best cover EVER!
Word Up by Gun, don't like the original and Korn's cover is okay, but this version is the best.
Sympathy for the Devil by Guns 'n Roses, Axl is simply closer to a devil than Mick is.

I like the cover of Laid to Rest by Lamb of God on Guitar Hero 2. The covered vocals sound more intense and I prefer the deeper style it uses.

Faith no mores Cover of "War Pigs" though I love the original as well. Only a slight edge for FNM on that one.

Ironically enough, I favor Aborted cover of Faith no mores "Surprise! Your dead."

Hole's cover of "Gold Dust Woman"by Fleetwood Mac.

Personally I usually favor covers. Many times I didnt like the original artist, so I am more inclined to favor a newer incarnation. So it would be easier for me to say "Most of em"

Only 2 I can think of that I dislike is Kitties version of "You better Run" by Pink floyd. Not bad.. just really really out of place and Metallicas "Turn the Page" by Bob Seager is an absolute auditory abortion that should have never been allowed to surface from the cesspool of musical travesty. Seriously Turn the page is one song that absolutely did NOT need to be covered, and Metallica proved that once and for all.

I prefer Mumford and Sons' cover of Unfinished Business by White Lies. They seemed to get it right that time.

Killswitch Engage's Cover of Holy Diver by Dio. While the original was good, I prefer Killswitch's heavier perspective on the song.

Joe Cocker covers of The Beatles songs:
She Came In Through The Bathroom Window and With A Little Help From My Friends.

Also I love All Along The Watchtower Jimi Hendrix cover as much as the original.

I'm having a really hard time with wether Nightwish cover of Over the Hills and Far Away is better than Gary Moores or not.
Otherwise I can't remember right now any covers at all... Althou there are many I just can't get my finger on any.
