Basically...it's a new player. Or some would say someone who isn't very good.

people who call you noobs are people who can't really play a game tbh cuz they normally say that after they get killed by you but ya noob normally means newbie or new player to a game that isnt that good at it but people these days use it to insult a player

I was on TF2 on Live, playing as a Scout as a change to Sniper and after grabbing then enemy intel on 2Fort I managed to kill someone who was attacking me. 1 minute later I then had the same guy who I found had 500+ GScore on the Orange Box, over 6000 in all, message me to "stop using fucking hacks you dick, you're changing your team colours and turned blue [his team] after you killed me".
My response was of confusion, asking what he was on about, then he replied arguing I was hacking. Needless to say I wasn't, nor would I really give a toss over how well I did in a game enough to get my Live banned, so he got an ear full, plus an invite to the party where my friends told him... their thoughts.

Ignore them, the fact half of them are kids(My guy was in his twenties by the sound of his voice... odd) shows their frustrated arseholes who would be liable to lob the controller at their Mum given the chance. Keep playing and take it as a compliment, because if someone can't handle it when you're kicking their arse then thank good ol' patience and practice on your part.

even if it is, its the actual players who decide the truth
And what are they playing on? Some interconnected web of ideas, an information superhighway, a series of TUBES?!

It used to mean "newbie" at some point, way way back in the day.

Nowdays, it seems like most kids use it as the new "idiot".

There are 2 types of "noob" Each with it's unique spelling for convenience. There's the Newbs, or the Newbies, basically meaning the new guy. Also there is the Noob, or noobie, effectivly meaning the guy that is only talking in 1337 killing newbs like he's big business but getting TERMINATED by anyone with his own in game skill level or whatever. Noobs generally make no attempt at increasing their abillity, while newbs are trying to learn and get better.

At least that's my view of it

Edit: Remember.. not all noobs are kids.. found plenty in their twenties and even one or two in their thirty's.

Age does NOT equal skill or maturity

I always regarded a 'noob' to be someone who was new to a game but instead of being humble and eager to learn from more experienced players, acts like a douche, arrogant but still making silly mistakes. Somehow there are people who can put hundreds of hours into a game and still be a noob.

well poor grammar for starts < like "i was playing XBL and i winning" or "because they though i was hacking or sum such"

The main reason I call people noobs is this. They do something stupid , they die, then don't learn from the mistake. Say in gears of War you see a sniper take off your friends head while hes dodging around. Noobs will pay no regard to the fact that the opponent is solid with the sniper rifle > Then they proceed to get their head popped as well. Next sniper round they again ignore the fact that they got completely served by the opposition and stick their head out again with the same result.

/\ That my friend is a noob.

As well as anyone who feels like actually cheating via standby glitching or what have you.

Nay, the idea of a noob is always in the minds of those who call others noob. My guess is that you're one of the players that constantly gets called noob not because you're actually better than the other player but because you truly SUCK

A newb is a player who is new to the game but with practice will become a valuable member of the team

a "n00b" is one of those guys who will play Sniper in TF2 when we already have 3 on the team and no medics

Noob or N00b: A new player, unfamiliar with either the genre or just particular game. Unwilling to take advice or learn from others. Or unwilling/unable to learn in general. Generally related to trolling on multiplayer games, as the noob thinks he already is a skilled player and the others are the ones doing it wrong. Noobs tend to leave the game after a while or become lonely(-ish) griefers. Rarely, if shown his/her incompetence in a sufficient and patient manner, a noob might transform into a newbie.

Note, noob is not an interchangeable word with Newbie.

Newbie (also referred to as a Newb): a new player, unfamiliar with either the genre or just the particular game. Usually able and willing to learn from mistakes and take serious advice given to them seriously. Newbies who are treated nicely, and like the game, usually grow into experienced players and valued members of the community if given the opportunity and time required.

A noob is someone who has been playing the game for a while, but is so arrogant he refuses to learn to get better, relying on calling everyone above him exactly what he is.

A Newb or Newbie is someone who is new to the game and is usually willing to learn new tricks.
