A noob is someone who is new to the game, forum, or event, with little to no knowledge of said game, forum, or event. At the same time, they are blissfully ignorant of their ignorance.

Noob is a very diverse word with many corruptions, such as newb, choob, froob, goob, all with different definitions.

Such as newb is a new player, and choob means someone who is a high level while still acting like a noob.

The broadly accepted term for a noob is someone who is either and idiot or trolling.

A newb is a new player, who is trying to learn the ropes, and actually picks up on advice.
A noob is a new player who believes they are somehow above the people who play the game all the time, routinely blame their weapons/class for them losing, and refuse to learn from their mistakes, or the advice of others.

That definition has helped me many times.

someone who sucks at a game or someone who spams a certain weapon/ability/class depending on what game you are playing

A "Noob", "Newb", or however it may be spelled, it is referring to a new player. If you are a brand new player, then that makes you a "Noob/Newb".

A moron who thinks they are god at a game and is incredibly arrogant and badly mannered.

Basically me with worse grammar.

I would call someone a newb if there new to the game, you know the greenhorn who doesnt know much yet.

Then I call someone a noob when there either, cheating, using the obvios cheep tactic and doing nothing els (I.E camping at the spawn with a shotgun/flamethrower/close range weapon.), or just doing cheap things so that they win (I.E. getting into a spot in burnout paradice that only that car can get into during a marked man, making it impossible to get to them unless you have the same car and know how to get there.)

noob: noun, short for newbie ,instead of what most people believe the only way to be a noob is to call others a noob.in video gaming used to define an inadquate or mentally retarted person who believes they are better just because they've played for longer, and as such try to pick on people who are only worse than them because they are newer.

Newb(ie) - someone new/inexperienced at "activity x", and who shows some interest in learning it.
Noob - someone who fails to realize that they lack actual skill but who still feels that they are superior somehow.

I'd say what defines a noob is someone who is good at the game simply because they follow what is internet-universally agreed as the best, easiest way to win at said game(s). And of course, gloat about their 'skill', when really, it's someone else's skill that they just copied.

According to the Oxfard English Dictionary
"* Noob From the gamer community; a neophyte in playing a particular game; used as a disparaging term. "

I believe it's someone new to the game, or someone who is playing with the skills to be the equvilant of one. also people using weapons or classes that are seen just as nooby such as the noob-tube or Juggernaut.

1. One player goes into a room where everyone is better than them, he calls them noobs and leaves.
2. Same player goes into a room and finds crappy players. He calls him noobs and leaves.
3. Player goes into a room with average players and calls them noobs, sometime just for killing him. He leaves.
4. Goes into a hacker game or game with one hacker. Noobs.
5. Goes into a mod game. Noobs.
6. Goes into a game. Noobs.
7. Gets kicked from a game because he called them noobs. Noobs.

I use two different terms. Newbie, which means anyone new to the game (usually a friend of mine) and I feel like calling them it. A noob is usually someone who needs to have an unfair advantage to win (using a rocket launcher to get 50 kills in 1on1) or someone who doesn't know what they are doing. The internet term for "noob" is anyone who wins. Typically it is used by a sore loser which I have always found confusing. "If you lost to a noob, who isn't good at the game, what does that make you?"

It used to have some definite meaning. I think the meaning now is "someone you don't like."
