This is a very simple question yet the answer, to me, is all over the place. What I mean with that is that in my country, as soon as you tell another person how you feel and if you're okay with that or not, you're an emo. In other countries or other people believe being emo means you have a stupid hairdo and cut yourself in the morning when you haven't slept well. Well known examples of so-called emo people to me is the main character from Twilight (I forgot his name because it wasn't important enough to remember) and Chris Tucker (or whatshisface) from the infamous YouTube video: 'Leave Britney alone'.
Personally, I think this word is waaaaaaaaay to overused. In some respects it should be used, sure, but in my country it's ridiculous on how quick this word gets thrown at you whenever you do something 'different'. But that's just my opinion.
