I'll save my opining for the year after the launch. Then I will determine whether or not this next gen of consoles is worth anything other than an overpriced paperweight. Hell it doesn't even seem to have a complimentary coffee cupholder since its a slot-feed disc now.

It showed off the actual console, which admittedly looks like a Crestron Controller (ie a big black box) which was something Sony didn't do.

Too bad about everything else although.

Well, aren't I original?

I don't think the name "XBOX One" is as bad as some people make it out to be. Companies do this all the time when they're looking for a fresh beginning. With just about everything. I doubt that the AMD HD xxxx series is going to continue much longer because once they hit the HD 9999 ultra enthusiast edition or something like that, they'd have to go to something like HD 10,000 or something like that. Which they won't do, they'll come up with a new label and numbering system. Going with numbered patterns has a limited time. The name "PlayStation 4" actually isn't that great. And very few companies can keep piling on numbers successful. You have Final Fantasy XIV, but not much else.

XBOX One market fresh beginnings. Companies like to go for that. Unfortunately, this new beginning for Microsoft is a horrible one. GET IT, horrible one? I... I didn't mean a joke there originally at all. Gosh, there's going to be so many unintentional puns about the XBOX One. People are going to have to clarify "no pun intended" every time.

Oh hey, the showed... Forza?

Well the box itself looks kind of cool, and the controller.

But as a gaming console it has yet to shine

The controller is the most positive thing out of the announcement. People have been asking for a better D-Pad on a 360 controller since the 360 got released, and while they did fix the issue somewhat with the newer edition of the controller, the Xbox One controller D-Pad sounds like it comes closer to what people expect.

It doesn't have any opportunity whatsoever to shine unless they completely abandon the DRM junk.

The DRM is a complete dealbreaker for most people and is undeniably the worst thing about this system. People have been comparing this to failures like the Phillips CD-i. But at least the Phillips CD-i can play used games.

Hey, what about the SEGA CD? Even that has some good games I care about. And I buy and and play them used.

Well, um... hm... it's certainly a box, so they got that part down. I guess that dog in the mocap suit was cool, but that's about all I was even remotely interested with.

Oh I know, It made me not as excited at the ps4 anymore since both will probably bomb with how restricted and non core audience they are making both of them.

This is kind of a bad thing i'm choosing to disguise as a good thing, it is the embodiment of almost everything we hate about where video games seem to be going, so hopefully other companies know what to avoid in the future as long as people don't buy into this mess.

I think I may be one of only a handful of people who actually like the new xbox. Sure they could have shown more game footage but what would be left for everyone to see at E3? I love the new controller design and the new kinect features actually look really useful. I think the reveal was exactly the right thing to do, they showed everything that the console can do. We know it will play games, it makes sense to save them for later.

EDIT: Can someone link me to some articles that talk about the DRM, etc. Unless I missed something I don't think it was mentioned in the press conference.

Except the thing that we're going to pay them US$500.00 for it to do. Ya know, the games part?

Of course it does. You don't show games for your games console. What kind of backwards world are we living in where gamers what to see what games on their potential games console are going to look, play and act like? Fucking entitlement, man.

I live in Australia, I'm going to have to pay close to $1000 for either next-gen console anyway. There is something called E3 coming up which will be used to show games and we'll see so much more than what we would have in a reveal press conference. I think Microsoft has something big planned for E3.

Ummmm... TV? Got one. Skype? Better on a laptop. Halo 5? No. CoD? No. Dogs? Maybe. It's got amazing new architecture? No, it looks like a fat, oily PS2.

Made me want to switch back to Sony. That's the ONLY plus.

I legitimately think the best thing it's done so far is the game box art. Seriously, those things look slick.

As for the rest...look, I hate to pre-judge a console before it's out and before we know of any games, but the fact they've been trying so hard to alienate their audience by ditching backwards compatibility and fucking over pre-owneds, rentals, indies & people who don't want to connect their console to the internet.

I think the tech in Kinect 2.0 looks appealing, and I want to get my hands on the new controller to see what it's like.

I think that's about it for positive things I can say. Oh yeah, the processor system actually sounds pretty good compared to normal architectures. But that's not a plus until it gets fully utilized.

uhhh...
errrr...
yeah...
the d-pad on the controller which I wish was wired looks okay?
We got to see it, but I wish we hadn't because of what it looks like.
I guess I would be able to turn it on because I'm not mute. That's okay for me I guess, but what about people who can't speak English or at all? Course the reason I can turn it on by speaking is because the kinect is always on, sucking power, watching, listening, waiting. That's not really a plus though, because I can turn anything with a power button on without too much effort.
They didn't give me much to work with.

Little to no console exclusives (Halo and Gears of War are no longer its savior)
I guess the other 13 exclusives that are coming out in its first year don't count?

Other than that I agree with most of your list.
