in holland, we dont celebrate christmas that much. sure we have trees and shit, but no gifts. We get gifts on 5 december, for sinterklaas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas

check it, lots of foreigners find it funny/weird
Giving gifts at christmas in stead of Sinterklaas is becoming increasingly popular though. :/
Which is a shame, because Sinterklaas is so much more awesome. Especially the candy. Hmmmmm kruidnoten...

The sham sold to children os a lot more impressive as well. Does America have a nation-wide staged arrival of Santa Claus, complete with all kinds of corresponding activities that somehow all relate to some epic adventure Santa Claus is having, all coordinated by school teachers, celebrities and pretty much everyone else? I don't think so.

But even for Sinterklaas I didn't get any presents. I did get 500 euros from my grandmother, which was awesome, but my parents or other relatives didn't give anything. Same goes for Christmas as we don't celebrate that, it's actually my mum's birthday today.

I haven't seen this thread yet, so I figured I'd create it.
In my Country, Sweden, we give gifts on christmas eve, so I've already gotten all of my gifts. (Suck it, Americans! :p)
So, what did you get for christmas, and were you happy about it?
If you haven't gotten anything yet, feel free to guess and then later see if you got it right.
I got the first 5 series of Dr. Who and Babylon 5. I'm very happy with that, just what I wanted.
Remind me to get back to you tomorrow

but so far, I've gotten a katana/umbrella (half of it's endangered, the other half IS danger!)
Consider this my reminder.

I got a GPS, $60, and some Polynesian coffee.

And I got my brother Munchkin Fu. He should be happy with it as soon as he tries it out.

Live DVDs of Behemoth and Transatlantic (blackened death metal, and prog rock - yeah my music taste is fucked, or fucking brilliant, it's up to you), new calender with waterfall photos, a 'postcard album' which is actually filled with gig tickets, photos and setlists from the many gigs my dad and I went to (which is pretty much the most inventive present I've ever had, it's brilliant!), money, and this Mastodon tshirt...

Wearing that to the pub tomorrow for sure.

Anyway, that's the stuff my dad got me. My mum got me boxers, aftershave, Mr Lazy pyjamas (very true tbh), loads of munch, and more moneys!

Oh yeah, and my best friend got me a Terry's Chocolate Orange, because everybody loves those :p

Hope you all had a good Christmas Escapists!

Nothing since I don't celebrate it
Nothing wrong with celebration blatant commercialism & taking advantage of an excuse not to go to work & spend money. That's what Yule is all about. That stuff about Jesus & Winter Solstice is just a lie we tell ourselves.
Well I am Muslim and we got our own holidays only difference is nobody gives a damn about our culture so most of the time we have to work during that time (mostly, unless we carefully plan it as a day off). So if we want to spend money, we will do it on our holidays just as those who celebrate Christmas (for whatever reason) do it on theirs. But hey not only do we have our holidays but those of us that live in countries like USA get to take advantage of the benefits of Christmas, like having a day off so it's still a win-win for us (somewhat).

Okay, got most of the rest of the stuff, just gotta get a few more presents, which will probably include a game, maybe a book or two.

Boss Metal Distortion pedal (can't remember exact model, but it's pretty good)
Long-ass guitar cable
AC adaptor for mentioned pedal
Halo Reach
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters (not asked for, but my brother knew I liked the series and it's a decent game)
Scott Pilgrim DVD
Shawn of the Dead DVD
Walking Dead T-shirt
Led Zeppelin music book thing (tabs + actual written music... and also not asked for)
Chord book (not asked for but extremely useful)
John Coltrane - Giant Steps
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
The Human Abstact - Nocturne
$25 iTunes gift card
Year subscription for Xbox Live
Earth by Jon Stewart (also not asked for... but my parents are awesome)
Some guitar picks
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (so far the gameplay is incredibly fun, but the intro flat out confused me)

Can't think of anything else at the moment, but my brother got quite a few games I'll be "borrowing". So it's a very successful Christmas with a few gifts left. Gotta love being a spoiled suburban kid.

And socks, because no Christmas is complete without them.
I've noticed that, and yet I've never given or received socks for christmas. Does that mean my family sucks?
No, they don't suck. They just aren't in tune with what the cool people do.

When I was young I was disappointed when I got socks for Christmas and birthdays, but now I see the practical value of it, and i really need new ones.

A 22" LCD High-Resolution monitor to go with my custom-built desktop. I had been using an 8 year old monitor for almost a year, so this was really nice.

The rest of it can be summed up with two brand names: Star Wars and Axe. Not even joking. I got this little stuffed Chewbacca plush, two tee-shirts, LEGO Darth Vader's TIE fighter, and a really cool Boba Fett helmet. Annnd, a Axe travel kit and an Axe shower kit.
