What do Skyrim, MLP, MW3, COD and Saints Row the 3rd have in Common?

For the pony threads I just point them in the direction of the user group and tell them to use the effing search bar next time.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/MLP-Friendship-is-Magic

If enough people do this it should signifigantly cut down on pony threads. They're usually pretty good about keeping to themselves.

As for the other stuff. They're the most anticipated and hyped games of the year. That kind of thing always happens.

first off, you have BALLS sir, lumping MLP in with all those, that takes stones, least :p on this site (and ya know, being generally right to do so) and for that

My first answer to the title: "We all need to shut the fuck up about them"

Except for Saints Row. I haven't seen many threads on that to be honest...

You really sure about that?
Try searching for Saints Row in here:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/search

I found about 20 Threads there, but I don't want to nitpick...

Well, create the group by all means. I'm sorry for judging you quickly. It's just so hard to tell these days...

If i had a nickle for every time I had to erase pony-hatred-tentacle-rape images from my brain, I'd have...a lot of nickles. I think. I can't remember.

Have I mentioned I hate MLP? It's less of a fandom and more of an overused meme now.

I'm not sure what can be done about it, except the moderators setting up some sort of system of if the thread your trying to create is similar to something else already made, it will automatically take you there...
There already is. It's called users being forum watchdogs and ending threads with redirection links. Not that it works most of the time, but at least we try...

Ya what's REALLY annoying when some kid comes into this forums complaining about how 'the forums are bad' or they're being spammed or Batman isn't Catholic...

Whenever a new game comes out, that's hyped, threads appear - mostly by those with post counts in the double digits or less.

MLP is just another cartoon that turned into 'web phenomenon' because it DIDN'T suck harder than Paris Hilton after a month in isolation at the county prision.
-Now, it's been meme'd to the point of absurdity, which is right where we netfolk like it.

Also:
You missed out on the fact that all 5 are sequels and are made by English speaking people.

Those damn dirty apes!

What about Sgt. Hartman? Is there a picture where he is saluting?
Anyway, I can't take you seriously with that image, no matter what you are going to claim. Especially not in a thread like this. Try to change perspective for a moment it should become obvious.

i not sure if there is one of him saluting, but easy enough to fix the other issue, what we have an edit button for after all, i shall remove the pic if its detracting for the message

They all make me want to take a power drill to my temple? I'm excited for Skyrim, but I don't like to waste time speculating on the internet with a bunch of people who don't give a shit. I'd rather watch videos, eat good food, and play fun games while waiting for Skyrim. Why can't people just play games instead of talking about how much they hate others playing games?

There is no need for threads like:

"Why is _____ so popular?"
"Why do people hate _____?"

NNNRNRNRNRRHHGHGHGHGHGHHGHRHHRRHHGHNNNN my teeth are bleeding from me biting my tongue so hard.

And last time I checked, Skyrim fans don't post jpegs of dragonborn on non-Skyrim posts asking people to stop oppressing them and for them to "join the guild" or some bullshit.

Thats my 2 cents. Save up some more and you might be able to buy some brain.

So....you're mad because pieces of media that are popular have lots of posts and topics about it? Gee, I wonder why. Get over it man, Skyrim is a very well received game here on The Escapist. Besides, Skyrim comes out very soon (I forget, maybe tomorrow or Friday?), MW3 JUST came out, and Battlefield 3 is still very new as well. Its currently being discussed because its new material there is much new information constantly coming out about each of them. MLP is a bit of a different case, so I'll just say that if you don't like it or aren't interested in it should just ignore the pony threads and just stay out of them. That's an easy-to-follow solution right? Ok then. My job here is done.

So it's counterproductive.
Wait...we're trying to be productive?

I don't think there's really anything to be done about that. People are going to want to talk about what interests them and excites them and there seems to be enough people interested about these topics to produce weighty threads about them.

If you want more variety in thread topics, I'd suggest starting threads that interest you

Fucking bronies man. It's not that hate you or your show. I just hate that's all you talk about. All your little pony avatars (except for clever ones like some 8-bit pony i Saw above) just start to run together and lump you all together into one little ball of horsetails and rainbows so that I may hate you more efficiently.

Seriously...you guys are killing MLP. It's like the cake is a lie thing all over again.

Anyhow, I just ignore those threads. Seems pretty counterproductive to read them since I know that a.) there are a million threads like that out there and b.) it's only going to make me mad.

Same reason I steer clear of MLP threads.

Don't hate you guys, just don't want to hear you talk about so much...and then hear somebody (like myself) bash it. And then you guys defend it. and then someone bashes it...and so forth.

I miss the good old days when if a thread was repeated seventeen people would shout: "REPEAT TREAD.USE THE SEARCH BAR!!!"
Wait, if you know better than to go to threads that annoy you, why don't you know better than to openly hate on the subject of My Little Pony when it is irrelevant to your point?

Now, now, don't jump to conclusions here!

I never said I reinvented the wheel or something.
True I had this "epiphany" lately when I got fed up with the Skyrim/COD/MW3/Ponies threads but I'm pretty sure someone else must have found that out by now. It's not that I have been here that long to oversee the entire lifecycle of the Forum-Universe and been able to derivate the ultimate equation from it.
That's your job, you're here since 2008, tell us about the big bang of the Escapists Forum
Oooh, I get to talk about the Yahtzee Renaissance of 2009?
Well, that's when the Escapist forum population really boomed, and the site became more of a sea of faces than a large community of a couple hundred familiar faces. We got a lot of new mods, badges, and generally a lot of things that really make the Escapist what it is today. The authoritative figures on the forums had to adapt to governing by a general ideal vision for the site rather than just by social direction and they had to lighten up on the moderation because fair subjectivity is difficult when you mostly deal with people you've never seen nor heard of.
The site itself got a lot of new content, with all the new people, we started to see a lot more of the "Good ol' days of the Escapist" types of threads, new subforums began to exist, (there were only two non-news/content forums those days. o.0) and yes, there was more shouting of "Search bar! Search bar!"

Oh yeah, and ponies.

General INFO:

I've just created a Usergroup named: "USE THE SEARCHBAR!!!"
I'm pretty new to this but I will find out all important bits about usergroups soon.
If you want to participate or show that you are in this group just contact me.
If this is only remotely sucessful the groups:

"Why is _____ so popular?"
"Why do people hate _____?"
and
"YOU ARE NEVER THE ONLY ONE"

are doomed to be popular as well.

If you have a brilliant idea how to summarize these four cornerstones of active participation against obnoxious posting feel free to let me know.

And for all Nerds out there:

Goooo Planet!!!

Because I can. And because I am entitled to my own rant every now and then. Seeing the same thread pop up day after day after day is kinda liked getting slapped in the face day after day after day by a very tiny midget with soft hands.

It doesn't hurt but damn its annoying after a while.

Cynical guy is cynical :D

Also, I don't hate MLPs, I just hate how much people talk about it. Just to be clear.

As a brony, I agree with Brian Hendershot.

It's one thing to love the show, but an altogether different thing to trivialise it by constantly spouting related memes. It annoys others and ultimately hurts the show.
