When XBL went down for an hour or so the other day many people were moaning about how this is unacceptable and for the money we pay we expect better and there were complaints about the customer support being terrible.. Personally I've never known Live go down other than when it was scheduled once, though I've only had live about 9 or 10 months now. And when my first XBOX broke [The day after I had it, it wasn't RROD] I phoned up the support team and I was off the phone in under 10 minutes, and speedily head into town to get my XBOX switched.

So what do XBOX customers expect from Microsoft? Weither it's service, content, anything.
The most obvious one being RROD, so there seems little point that being mentioned.

I dunno. I mean, they extended the warranty for RROD and in my experience XBL is pretty damn stable, so I dunno what they expect.

I have no complaints over the way Microsofts service has treated me. The service has only ever been down unless stated once - and then it was down for what, an hour?

I had to call customer service to cancel a live account and they were helpful, fast and friendly - in my eyes they havn't set a foot wrong in those departments.

Exactly my point. I've never had a problem, when I did get RROD [1 week before the shop guarantee ran out, lucky much?] I got it switched no questions asked.
But so many people seem to moan about how it should be better.

People only complained about it being down for an hour because it means they might have to go out and get a life.

Personally, for the ammount I pay, i'm quite happy, of course there are things I would like for the money I pay.
For one, a type of internet browser on the 360, like there is on the PS3.
(personally, I cannot understand why there is no internet browser on a microsoft console, but there is on a sony one)

Seriously, those people need to get something else to fill their time. I go on the Escapist :)

Anyway, I dislike the way the Xbox constantly f*cks itself. Mine broke down, so it was sent to Germany to get it fixed by Microsoft. Then it came back with a different problem.

I think quite a lot of people complain because the XBOX shouldn't have all these problems in the first place, which is fair enough, but i've never had any problem with their customer service, in fact it seems a hell of a lot better than most other companies out there.

You are the exception that disproves the rule. My 2nd 360 RROD a couple of months ago, outside it's warranty period. My first 1 never had a fault (wish I never traded it for a WII). Unfortunately, I don't have a the spare change lying around to just buy another console. Drop the price by another $150 and maybe. And don't get me started on the wrought that is game pricing, $119 GTFO here.

http://venturebeat.com/2008/09/05/xbox-360-defects-an-inside-history-of-microsofts-video-game-console-woes/

Key points to note:

- In 2006 the PS2 outsold the 360
- By 2007, Microsoft was still manufacturing consoles with 60% (60/100) failure rates.

The next generation of consoles is going to be an interesting fight. Fanboyism alone won't get Microsoft across the line. Sometimes it's better to get the product right than churn out shit just to beat a competitor to the market. Microsoft's just lucky that Sony dropped the ball this time around.
Makes you wonder why they haven't fixed it yet. Or if their next console will be the same, maybe not the RROD but have another equally as common flaw.

I personally would expect them to do a quality control on there customer support staff

Everytime i've phoned asking for help, they were rude, condisending and generaly obnoxious and ive had to ask for help atleast 5 times

They refuse to refund refurbish or replace my red ring of death Xbox, I'm not re buying an Xbox, why would I? If it happens again I'll be just as fucked.

I expect better quality in their machine, besides the RROD there are E74 errors and some minor drive errors that by now should have been eliminated.

I expect them to treat me as a valued customer and not say condescending things like 'Are you the owner of the 360?' Yes '*pause* Then I'll try to explain it so you'll understand' This was an actual conversation I had with a tech person (guy) from Microsoft. Just cause I have breasts instead of a penis dosen't mean I don't play or infact understand consoles!

People will complain about anything and everything. This was one of those cases where people are whining about a temporary break in the service because it means they'd have to DO something. I bet it took all the energy out of them just moaning about it.

I expect to be able to cancel a live gold subscription online in the same way that you can subscribe. It's a bit scummy of Microsoft to rely on people's stupidity and laziness to keep them subscribed to something they don't use.

I did some digging just now once I heard about the StripclubDJ story and heard about how many players have gotten away with cheating and I do wish they would clamp down on that. But I am not goig to scream bloody murder.

That happened to me too. Then, three mo nths later it got RROD again. I'm now on my 4th 360 and i'm so tired of it i have been illuminated as to the awesomeness of pc gaming.
I expect more free dlc, and i think it costs way too much money. I'm happy to pay for it, but i just dont want to pay £40 a year for it

I have a little problem with them not recognizing E74, something almost as widespread as RROD, for a long time, because that's what I had. They eventually corrected it, so now my only problem is with the whole MS Points thing.
