Ever since I was little, I had nightmares quite often. My sleep alternates between no dream, weird dream, and nightmares. However, unlike my friends I've never cried out in my sleep. I learned this trick which was basically an eject button. If I ever wanted to boot back into reality, I would take my thumbs and gouge out my eyes in the dreamworld. This always worked, and was the perfect way of getting out of bad dreams. So, what do you during a nightmare?

I can't control what happens in my dreams and i hardly ever have nightmares but i'm impressed that you can do that. It sounds so helpful to keep away bad thoughts

That sounds incredibly violent! And what if you accidently did it in real life instead of just in the dream?

OT: I can't even remember the last time I had a dream, let alone a nightmare. Ordinarily, it takes me a long time to actually get to sleep, but when I do, I'm out for the night.

Oh, I can tell. When really weird shit starts happening, I do that, and it doesn't hurt actually.

Ugh, I am so jealous of you OP.
Though I can't say I have nightmares or even dreams all that often, I have next to no control over them, and I remember nearly nothing from them at all, so even if I do, I probably wouldn't be able to tell you.

I very rarely actually have dreams and whenever a nightmare happens to mix in with them, I just take it, wake up when it ends and then, depending on how severe the nightmare was, will go back to sleep in 5-120 minutes.

Well, that's about all the amount of conscious control I have. Some of my friends can actively alter the reality of their dreams, like God. I can only get out of the dream or keep going, sort of like a player in a video game.

i check out my hand and count my fingers round about 10 times a day or so. seriouly^^
when you do that, it becomes a habit. now, if it becomes a habit enough, you will do so in a dream too. but in a dream your fingers will be all messed up und impossible to count, it's a brai thingie. so right then i know that i dream and can mess arround in it as much as i want.

it's called lucid dreaming and if you have problems with nightmares you should give it a try maybe..

Hm. Like most people, I forget my dreams minutes after I wake up, as if my brain's trying to hide something. When I have a dream, I always realize I'm dreaming, and can wake up whenever I want. I can't remember my last nightmare, but when I have them, I usually just stay in them out of curiosity.

Really? What's your method. Eye gouging or eyelid tearing is about the only way to do it for me.

I don't really know what happens during my nightmares, but I often have a falling sensation afterward. Perhaps I was pushed off of a building or something like that. It happens quite often, actually, but I always wake up in the same place I fell asleep. It's really strange. :/

i have a very good control of my dreams, so i dont get nightmares very often.... haven't had one in about 2 months from my last one (stupid zombies, leave me alone) when i do get a nightmare, its pretty easy to turn back into the dream i wanted to have.... like having superpowers, or an infinite bag of chocolate, or one of my favorites, being a mythological creature. that's always cool.

If it's a really intense one, I just wake up. It's involuntary and I just wake up. Of course that's only if I know that I'm dreaming, sometimes I forget that I went to sleep and those dreams are the wierd ones.

I also possess the uncanny ability to manipulate my dreams, like a movie director, and create my own endings. It's hard to explain but it's like I subconciously make it up as I go along so my nightmares end up being funny.

Essentially I am one hundred percent 'Freddy Proof'.

The problem is is that you are not concious while in R.E.M sleep, i remember all of my dreams and nightmares quite well, so when there is a chance that you truly get to control yourself then you won't have much time cause now your brain is starting back up...

But if you want to have dreams more often a good tip is to set your alarm and stay up for a very short time and then fall back asleep, 5 minutes or so. It works everytime for me and i always enjoy my drams, plus you will remember the dream easily!

I die in the nightmare a couple of times over and over and then wake up like nothing happened.

I can control dreams once I realise they are dreams, but not nightmares. However, this is probbaly because I sleep so lightly, but if I close my eyes in the dream and kinda concentrate or something, when I open them I'm awake. It works well for nightmares, but once I realise something's a dream and accidently blink in it, that's enough to wake me up.
