I think my name is legally Joshua now (as opposed to Yuhe). When I came to America from China, my parents said that my English name would be Joshua. Of course, I lacked proficiency in English and I thought that it was a girl's name. I thought people would make fun of me when I started to go to school. But obviously it was not the case.

Michael, but I rarely get that. I often get called by my last name. Or sometimes Maccabees, because we found it in a bible at school (I'm not religious, but I go to a Catholic school) and it's quite similar to my last name.

What is my surname, you ask? It's far too secretive to say out loud. It's similar to Maccabees, that's all I'll say.

My name is Jonathan, but like many people I don't fancy my full long name, so I want people to just call me Jon. Much quicker and much better.

when I was really little i HATED my name. For the longest time I would pretend my name was something else and even tell strangers that it was! (that didn't go well when my parents had to find me in public places and no one had ever heard of that name, in addition to me not responding to it.)

But now that i'm older and wiser i actually REALLY appreciate that my name is somewhat uncommon. It suits me, it's weird and so am I!

All of mine suck....badly.

Andrew - It just does suit me, at all.

John - Just doesn't suit me either.

Edward - There wasn't a problem for a while....and then that stupid book series came out.

Purse - That one is obvious.

My aunt Leah tricked my mom into naming me Matthew because she wanted me to be named after someone in the bible.

I like it though. It means "Gift Of God."

I won't tell you my first name, though, because I hate it.

And for my high school year book picture, I told the teacher my name was "Anthony Redgrave", just to mess with them.

Amanda... Common, nothing special, wish it had been Stasia like my grandmother wanted, but I dodged the "Pauline" bullet so I guess I can't complain.

I'm not a big fan of my real name. If I was given the chance to change it, I would probable change it to my online name.

My real name is just eh. It's Jason. Very common, which makes me believe that I have to make myself memorable in other ways. Often times I've thought of having the spelling changed to Jacen. At least then it would be slightly more unique.

As for my Escapist name, it's tradition. Always have used it, more than likely always will. Also, remove the "b" for a pronounceable word. I ask those who are talking to me in game use that word to address me instead of stumbling over its current spelling.

Christopher is a fairly common name, but that suits me just fine (though I admit the irony of an agnostic being named "Christ Carrier"). Middle name is just my father's name.

My last name isn't that common, but I wouldn't think it's terribly uncommon, either (not saying it, since I'm paranoid). I think I've been able to determine that it's either from Britain or Ireland, and means either hunter or wheat farmer. I'm not sure which translation I subscribe to.

I hate my given name. My idiot father wanted a boy so he gave me a name that could give me a boyish nickname. My middle name is the name of a bible thumper and I can't stand my last name because it ties me to my father.

So once I can, I'm legally changing it. Speaking of which, does anyone here know how to do so in New York state?
In most states you have to be a legal adult and you can go to the courthouse and fill out some forms. In some more conservative states the name has to be approved by a judge or panel. It a bigger pain in the ass than you'd think though because you have to get a new social security card, birth certificate, so on and so forth. Then all your legal history can be an asspain to prove. Like if you put on a job application "I graduated high school" they'll say "Really the high school doesn't have a record of you? Did you change your last name when you got married?"
I have a friend who changed her name for very similar reasons to your own. (Very few 20 something women nowadays want to be called Edna, Ed, or Eddie)

My first name was taken from a song.

I have no idea where my middle name's from.

And my surname sucks.

I like my name. I managed to be named after two men, my maternal grandfather and father, and yet have a completely feminine name--namely because both my grandfather and father had unfortunate names for men to have. My last name is also kinda rare but famous at the same time, so I like it.

I don't like, however, that my name in katakana gets rendered "Fookunaa," so every idjit has to make a joke about forks. ("Fooku" is "fork" in Japanese). It wasn't funny the first time, it's still not funny the eighty bajillionth.

"Robert"...dammit, just when I get used to people calling me "Rob", someone has to call me by this name...

Apparently it means "bright fame"..... can't think of a way to apply it to anything though...

:D
