So what are we talking about here? Real Chinese food or American Chinese food? There's a difference.

I usually like some tripe or egg tarts. I also like clams and mussels, pretty good.

Fried rice, chips and gravy. Never had it? You're a tad weird.

Either that or Chicken in Black Bean Sauce or House Special Chow Mein. I absolutely adore noodles in these sauces, they're just delicious.
Swap the gravy for curry sauce and you have the ultimate food of the drunk. At least one good suede jacket of mine has been utterly ruined by attempting to walk and eat this while utterly pissed.
Curry... curry sauce? Curry sauce? Curry fucking sauce?! Close your browser in shame, gravy should always be chosen over any other sauce. Curry sauce, pfft, what were you thinking man?

It might be a Scottish thing. Not many carry outs do gravy up in my neck of the woods. And remember one thing before expressing any shock at what a Scotsman will eat: we are the nation that invented the deep fried pizza. Yes, we take what is basically 95% dough (the most absorbent foodstuff known to man), and chuck it in a deep fat fryer. This explains everything you need to know about Scottish eating habits (and why we are "the Fat Man of Europe").

Chow Mein and pork dumplings. Maybe ginger beef.

But, honestly, I rarely go to Chinese restaurants. Vietnamese is where it's at. I'll usually have chicken sate pho or a chicken vermicelli bowl. Japanese is also great. Love my ramen and udon.

Mapo doufu or doufu niu if they have it. Sichuan style food is my favorite, I love spicy stuff. Beef noodle soup with wontons, if it's a Taiwanese restaurant.

The Chinese restaurants I grew up with in PA have none of these things, just the most generic Americanized dishes since the Asian population is nearly non-existent where I'm from. Chinese restaurants are one of the only things I actually prefer about Dallas.

If I haven't tried everything on their menu yet, something I havent yet tried. If I have tried everything, I am partial to duck.

Almost always wonton soup, dumplings and beef and broccoli.
Also common to get lemon chicken, chicken+shrimp chow mein, fried chicken w/peanut butter, general tao, crispy sesame beef, honey mustard shrimp.

Yeah... I was going to comment about all the mentions of 'General Tso's' chicken... which isn't really Chinese (purported to be Hunanese, but they don't really eat poultry in Hunan and if it doesn't burn your insides, Hunanese people will deny it has anything to do with them), and has virtually nothing to do with Zuo Zongtang... it's just a perpetuated myth that he liked chicken prepared that way (there's no proof either way).

I usually like some tripe or egg tarts. I also like clams and mussels, pretty good.
If you're big on Chinese seafood, try Zhejiang/Jiangsu traditional dishes.

When I was dieting, I loved rice noodles with steamed vegetables. Now that I'm pregnant, coconut curry or singapore noodles please! :) My baby loves spicy things.

Chicken fried rice, chips, ribs and honey sauce, beef in black bean sauce, crispy duck, chicken satay,

I LOVE chinese food.

In fact my local knows me so well I don't even give them an order anymore, they don't take my name and we have nice chats when I'm there :p

Those fried dough things covered in sugar and anything with a very high meat to non-meat ratio.

Also, white rice. To many veggies and shrimp and other things in fried rice.

Pretty much just below the border. I knew you were from the North when you didn't recoil in horror when I said I put gravy on rice. I understand curry sauce being put on rice, but not when gravy is a choice. I know all about what you Scots eat and I'm thoroughly impressed by it. You're a credit to the entire United Kingdom, bravo.

Well if I'm not at a buffet, in which case I eat everything not nailed down, I order egg drop soup, then either Orange Chicken, or Schechuan beef (I apologise profusely if misspelled that).

Nothing against gravy, I've had it before and it was damn good eating.

OT, but there's a lot of fun to be had with our food. There are few things in life so funny as convincing a tourist to try haggis, watch them scoff the lot (it does actually taste bloody brilliant if done right) and then tell them that haggis aren't really a wee beastie that lives in the hills and what was really in it...
