Mine isn't really that big, but I play straight up survival. I think also cause I used to live in a town with big houses but my parents decided to build a normal size one because we only really bought what we needed

My base is a castle with four-block-thick walls at the base and three-block-thick walls upward (except at firing points) with five stories, the top three of which allow access to a rooftop with crenellations to hide behind so skeletons don't shoot me. The only way in is either a series of three iron doors above obsidian blocks or an underground minecart system that emerges underwater and goes over a bridge to the next island, where it goes back underground. I still haven't added the town wall or the little houses and things I want to build and I've already been through at least 80 stacks of cobblestone.

I think it says that I can't stop improving stuff (it started out as a little hole in a hillside)

I built a sand tower (my first big construction), a castle, cube houses, towering staircases, and rooms next to the staircases.
I have a bit of everything.

It says "I don't want to be found, because i've blended in perfectly in the landscape. Besides a sign pointing people in the wrong direction :p

I haven't actually played Minecraft, but if I did, I would build a sprawling underground base, with a large portion above ground, but the above ground part is basically the inside of a mountain, and the only entrance is through the underground, a fair distance away. That is my dream.

It sounds more awesome than it does practical...
I have a firend who builds bases like that. Makes more sense than you think, makes it harder for enemies to find your actual base, since they are attracted to light.

How the hell do you find enough clay?

oooh, I like that. Mind if I use that? Also, how do you get the water out of the dome? I can't think of any way that wouldn't drown me.

I don't really build bases. I have maybe a 10x10x7 wooden hut where I keep my chests/workbench/furnace, but apart from that, i do not touch the surface. At all. Everything i do is underground. My current project is to make the ground one block thick for a couple of chunks (dig anywhere, and you fall into bedrock) I have no idea what that says about me.
I've thought of doing that, but seems like too much work. Would be cool, though.

Well... I've tried all sorts of different bases - built into the side of a cliff, one on a mountaintop, one completely underground, one only partly underground, one underwater... The list goes on.
So what does that say about me? That I like to be varied? Eh, not particularly.

My hideouts in Minecraft are also always well-stocked and well-organised with massive storage rooms full of stuff.
But that doesn't mean I'm always amply prepared IRL - to the contrary, I tend to improvise on the fly.

So no, I don't think our Minecraft bases say much about ourselves IRL.
But maybe it's more abstract than that; maybe they say something about our dreams or desires?
Who knows...

We found a hotter climate area. Clay was easier to find there. When we did found some it was in large deposits. We still had to search for days and we are sure there is no more clay with in 3-4 days walk of the apartment building.

The way I did it was to build the roof of it first, with a hole in the center. I got three or four buckets and a bunch of dirt, then I sank down through the hole in the roof, filled it above me, then scooped up enough of the water to breathe. Water in minecraft only flows down, so it gave me a little safe area. After that, I would lay down a layer of dirt to replace the water block, then dig it back up leaving open air in its place. At this point you can finish building the walls of your room/base/dome and then remove the rest of the water by replacing it with dirt then digging it back up. It's a very tricky, time-consuming method, but that's how I've made bases underwater.

Edit: If anyone has any better methods of building underwater I'd love to hear about it.

My bases, are only as big as they need to be. That is big enough for the crafting table, furnace, and now the bed. I don't feel the need to make massive sprawling bases that fill the entire mountain. You don't use that much space so it's a waste unless of course that's what you play minecraft for then go nuts.
My biggest base is only that size because the hole in the wall was already that big and that perfectly square and naturally had two stories and waterfall access. I love my cliff home, with my entrance staircase being made out of the trees that naturally grew nearby.

I tend to build my bases into hills and mountains, usually building with nature, IE i won't normally level a mountain to build something. The only free standing base structure I've ever build is on a server I frequent. It's a floating castle.

Layout wise, I tend to carve out a big area and split up my items by what they are into double chests if it's a major base. I also usually have at least a 3 by 2 furnace wall in these areas, along with a work bench. I also sometimes set up a lava-water cobblestone generator and an incinerator in major bases. I usually add windows and look out posts looking out - it's good to see what's going on outside when you're inside. I always have access to my mines from my base of course.

For outposts, just a small rooom with a workbench, double chest, bed and a furnace or two does the trick.

Multi-storied building with little space except for a gardening room with seems to get more attention than the mine shafts. Welcome to Gardencraft!

Hey! that mod looks awesome! Which one is that?
How much gold did that take? dang.

In Minecraft, my bases usually end up just being forts. Maybe they get blow up by creepers, along with me. But after the fifth time I always rage quit. So... Not many bases I can think of.

I havn't played much minecraft but most of what I've done involved huge monuments (pyramids, temples, etc. ) to my greatness. This clearly means I have a huge ego.

I seem to be a major Nether-hopper. I'll stay somewhere for a while, build a house and whatever else I feel like building. I'll live there a good while then visit the Nether and walk around a bit, build a Portal and start the whole cycle again in a whole new place, bringing in about half the supplies I scrounged up in the last place to the new one. I guess I'm just a wandering hermit sort of person, staying somewhere for a while and then moving on. I suppose one day I'll visit the old places again. Not for a while, though.

Books. Lots of books.

I should explain, Wooden walls 2 Blocks thick, 3 Blocks high, Integrated into the surrounding area, 1 Entrance, to which some blocks are a makeshift stairway. Windows and Lava drops are in strategic places, so any intruders feel a sharp burning sensation, after falling about a billion feet.

Inside this place? Book Blocks. Lots of them. I'm in the process of making a library of sorts... Or a tower that goes into the land, instead of protruding out of it.

Oh yes, and atop this place, is perched a small layer of Stone Blocks, and a small Tree.

*Sigh* I don't know what it says about me, so make of it what you will.

hmm, i always wind up digging a hidey hole into where i found coal so i can survive the night, and then dig into that mountain. i try to find the edges of the mountain, so i can have some nice windows and rooms just to sit and look out. i also have a place with an underwater base topped by sandstone, and pretty rough on the bottom because im too lazy to smooth it out, but im thinking to make a glass ceiling for a more open feeling. also hate building things out of wood or dirt, seems to fragile.

so i guess... indoorsy, but i like to watch storms from safety, while hearing the pit pat of rain on the windows (even helps me sleep), like feeling secure definitely, but not at the cost of an open feeling. i deliberately make islands of all of my starting places, so i guess i like having a limit as to how far i can go at the beginning, so i dont feel overwhelmed.

also, my basic home and mining shaft designs were shamelessly ripped off from x. well, digging into the side of a mountain i took from him, and the x light, i just made a couple mods. and the staircase to the bottom i got from a video, also modded it to have workstations and boxes on the way down, and make detours wherever found for extra minerals. so i like improving upon others' ideas, but have few good ones of my own.

and all of my mining shafts and/or farms are built in/on/easily accessible from my house. so i like convenience.

Mine's a boxy fort built just offshore. Ground level is 'open' (glass) with a Nether portal at centre and no door (that's underwater). The level above is future expansion, the one above that is bedroom and library, and then the roof is my open-air garden. Below sea level is two levels of storage and an offshoot to my lava pits that ends in a door leading to a small underwater grove with trees and a glass roof, just barely visible from the top of my fort.

No idea what that says about me. I like things that are nondescript on the outside but have some striking things if you look closer?
