It failed quite badly if i recall right. Cue lots of WoW players (myself among them at the time) laughing for weeks.

It came out. That's why nobody hears tell of it.
In the words of 'Sarge':
  • "Being released to the public is what makes [it] obsolete!"

What ever happened to Mechwarrior? I miss them.

Everyone realised AoC was going to fail, even all their investors jumped ship. I wouldn't like to be Funcom at the moment. Also anyone hear about the AoC boards banning people from posting issues and bugs with the game?

In fantasy land where Star Wars games don't suck.

As for Tabula Rasa, I think it's still up. THINK. I can tell you Hellgate: London died as well, which makes me sad because I alpha/beta tested that game and it had some great writing.

Most Star Wars games don't suck, the only one that really does is Star Wars Galaxies.

I sir would respectfully disagree with your views. However, I did look at the Old Republic website and it did look interesting. It appears Jedi and Sith will be base classes availiable to everyone. There's no gameplay specifics yet however.

Ah, the thing about the Jedi/Sith characters been available to everyone is intresting. Now done wrong it will be unbalanced and unfun. Done right it will be fantastic. KOTOR is based of Star Wars D20 and from my playing experience, Jedi classes and regular classes were well balanced. What will be the killer is if they decide to make it like D&D Online (is that still going?) which i hear was primarrly group based everything.

Err...Before they destroyed? It was borked on day 1!! It never delivered on it's original premise that PvP and world events were going to change the benefits of the alliance over the Empire or vice versa. The whole implementation of the Galactic Civil War was borked and with every Issue the game morphed into something that never even came close to the original manual. Bug after bug after bug. The patching for that game was phenominal.

Hell, after a year and a 1/2, they basically re-released a whole new game with all new classes, mechanics, characters, professions, skill trees, etc. The 2nd incarnation of SW:G looked nothing like the day 1 launch title.

SOE was well onto destroying the game even before it was released (which IMHO never should have been released when it was due to all the issues.) It resemembled an Alpha more than it even resembled a Beta.

Wow, no need to be an asshole over it. At least it was trying to do something a bit different. Some people would rather not play WoW to the end of time.
Err i was not. It's just amusing to see another developer come along and say 'we're the new WoW', proclaim how they're going to raise the bar, then fail miserably.

Which is what the guy was referring to. Despite the bugs - were not nearly as bad as your rant claims - pre-NCE was much better than post-NCE, to the point where the second incarnation turned the game from somewhat of a mild success into an absolute failure.

I think the next MMO that will succeed like WoW did will be one that actually had decent gameplay that can compete with any of the best single-player games out there.

Nothing that does the same thing as WoW will dent it because WoW is already there. Its fanbase, as much as they like to whine about the game or the genre in general, aren't going to move en masse unless its to something in another league entirely, and there isn't the technology out yet, nor a team of developers on the planet with sufficient talent or skill to be able to pull it off.

The constant streams of failures and spectacularly broken promises made by embarrassingly incompetent dev teams that this particular genre of game seems to attract is a constant source of entertainment in and of itself, and it's free to watch as well.

The moment i stopped playing SWG was when i logged on and was told that i had to change my armour into something else. So a badass suit of blood red composite turned into a blue one-zie and a hat that overall made me look like a smurf.
