So i was wondering,of your favourite game or games in your collection what is it that made you think "man i've gotta have that game" or "oooh that looks good"?

I remember when i saw arkham asylum the graphics looked awesome, then i saw his swishy cape and i knew i wanted to play it.The same for mass effects armour, even if the story was shit i knew i had to play it cause the armour looked awesome haha.

Assassins Creeds free running sold me on that game, I actually had fun just dashing all over the place looking for those ever elusive flags.

... does not compute.

To answer the question: ... I can't. Every game I buy I buy for a reason. Most of the time it's the story and game play, and not a specific gimmick it offers. Unless its a series. In which case I usually follow the main character around like a good little puppy. (Splinter Cell/Thief).

KillZone 2 had me hooked but then I saw the threatrical gameplay trailer that blew my mind, and I still find impressive, slow motion gameplay physics effects yes please!

Also when I heard that Far Cry 2 had persistent deaths in terms of buddies, when they die they die forever, I didn't realise how heartbreaking it would be to shoot a buddy in the head to re leave their pain though, I felt like I'd murdered a brother and I thought I was a monster.

The whole "your character is you and you chose literally every line of dialog out of his mouth" thing sold me on mass effect.

'Not being Call of Duty' will probably sell me Medal of Honour. Plus the beta was pretty decent. Oh, talking of demos, the Kane and Lynch 2 demo was great. That sold me with pure, unrivalled bad-assery.

I bought Red Faction Guerrilla purely because I KNEW I was gonna have a mad time blowing shit up.

And I did.
Same here! Although I was disappointed that stuff stayed blown up (as it were). Towards the end of the game it looked more like Fallout than Red Faction due to all the rubble.

I knew I had to buy Battlefield BC2 when I saw those gameplay trailers and there was a bit where a Humvee blew up and went through a wall and crushed someone behind it. I just love destruction engines.

The games I play the most were bought for a single reason: Customisation.

I've spent at least 15 hours in the "Create a Fighter" mode in Soul Calibur 4, while I only spent enough time in the story mode to get the money to unlock everything.

I bought Jedi Academy because I saw the character customisation. I still play it from time to time because of the mods and outstanding multipalyer.

Plants vs Zombies 360 it's the multiplayer.

Mirror's Edge it's the whole concept of a first person platformer.

Bioshock it was playing the Demo and seeing the scene where Andrew Ryan talks about why he built Rapture. That was true sci-fi and I had to see the rest of the story.

Two things to have that guarantee I'll buy your game;

1. Customization options, especially character customization.

2. A big open world to screw around in, with said created character.

Guess what game.
Disgaea!

OT:

You can sell me on a game with one thing: Metroid style exploration

Be it Castlevania or Shadow Complex. There's just something I love about it.
