Seeing all of the cool science fiction technologies that will never happen such as: flying cars, hover boards, jetpacks, lightsabers, space elevators, space colonization, etc. Will probably never happen. So what futuristic technologies are GOING to happen?

If we can at least do space colonization within the next few centuries I think we would eventually develop all those wonderfully technologies. Of course if we don't then I imagine Humanity will be back to using sticks and stones until either A) are sun goes nova and kills everyone or B) far superiors aliens discover us and take us as pets.

Hasn't a new method of 3D printing recently been worked or, outright mastered? Advances in 3D printing could eventually lead to The Replicator or Replicator technology as seen in Star Trek: Next Gen. Add in voice technology and edible 3D-Printing materials and we'll have the privilege of living in a world Tea Earl-Grey Hot. If Replicators explode to the point where everybody has them it could lead to a money-less society in some way or another. Or possible a true end to global hunger...If we do continue living in a world where people must pay money to eat food then we'll go in the other direction: One wherein people will gladly and illegally download Pizzas and Big Macs.

half the stuff you said would likely never occur will very likely occur in the near or distant future so you might want to put a timeline on that.
I'm gonna just say the whole plot of gattaga because that in the inevitable future of genetic engineering

Uh... PDI?

Other than that, something something equivalent to deforestation on another planet... and better cloning, though even then, there's still room for improvement, I guess...

I would imagine cellular renewal and cellular reconstruction via nanites, leading to immortality and eternal youth. Though whether it will be available to anybody but a very rich handful is unknown. Particularly if pharmacological firms are allowed to increase the longevity of their patents.

It might also be available if you're willing to sign your life away to a company in exchange for them.

I would imagine that people would steal the technology eventually, however.

(Edit) I actually don't see a future of Deus Ex: HR. I think we're largely going to skip it and go straight for the JC Denton nanite. Though I don't think they'll be anywhere near as cool.

I could see genetic engineering become a thing. Rich people have superhuman children who then use their abilities to stay rich. Itd probably be the birth of a new type of racism.

Hoverboards, jetpacks, and space colonization are gonna happen.

But aside from that, I'm running a checklist on what the future's probably going to be like. It will end up as a cross between Ghost in the Shell and Star Trek, so far. We love building our sci-fi stuff in reality.

I would hope hoverboards and jetpacks are only licenced to suitable individuals. Like movers and warehouse workers for hoverboard technologies, and jetpacks for .... I can't think of anyone I would entrust with a jetpack. For the same reason I hope that the flying car never becomes a thing. It's hard enough to trust people to use a ground-based vehicle responsibly, a flying car? No fucking way ... nobody would be safe.

Ditto hoverboards and jetpacks.

Personally I hope otherwise but I find it hard to believe space colonization will ever be viable, do-able sure but I can't see it ever being something that doesn't cost a fortune. So no moon cities... :(

Indeed, like GATTACA, but worse.

Parents choose to genetically tailor their kids to look like supermodels, repeat a few generations and then a large swath of humanity's genetic diversity is lost forever.

With that lost diversity goes immunities to all sorts of illnesses, known and unknown. In order to make their kids "perfect", as a whole, they're going to end up making them even more vulnerable in the end.

[sarcasm]Aren't we going to get a colony on Mars pretty soon?[/sarcasm]

I don't know how "futuristic" this is, but curing cancer is something I'm looking forward to.

Functional immortality seems to be one of those things that we can reach through many alternative paths, even if one of them turned out to be dud, yet people tend to underestimate it's likelihood as "too good to be true".

Eh, I think a lot of them won't happen, not because they couldn't be made, but because the market won't be there when they can.

Public videophone booths, for example. Totally could make them, but mobile phones mean we don't really want to anymore.

I could definitely see cybernetic limbs in the near future, ala Deus Ex. I don't know about cyber eyes or cloaking skin or the Icarus system, but I could definitely see people who've lost limbs getting replacements that are much stronger and tougher than muscle and bone.

Genetic engineering of newborns. Could definitely see this one, perhaps even in near future.

Power armor for Soldiers. We're actually already pretty far along in that stuff, the biggest issue is finding an adequate power source.

In addition to power armor of some kind, I think Augmented Reality and communications implants will exist at some point in the future.

Eyes will be a thing, they are already implanting things into retinas and plugging light sensors into optical nerves. Obviously limited for now but the proof of concepts exist.

Dimensional gates/Transporters whatever.

And not big sci-fi constructs in space that allow us to jump from Sol to Alpha Centari..but an actual thing you can use in your living room that allows you to step out of your living room to anywhere else on the planet.

This is tech I am pretty sure we're on the door step of already, a lot of the theoretical science is already there and the math behind it all has been heavily tested by some of the best minds on the planet. But effectively two points on the same planet are so infinitesimally small in the total difference of their location that with the right application of energy it might actually be possible to make those two spaces briefly share the same space.

This tech might be a long ways out but I believe we're knocking on the door of it with the research we're doing now.

Pretty much the way I see it too. I remember seeing a SmartWatch commercial that used old Dick Tracy and The Jetsons quotes and thought it would've been way cooler if they were made 8 years earlier. If we ever get proper hover/flying cars or something like that then it'd most likely be impractical to implement them due to the need for a massive overhaul in both infrastructure and Drivers Ed Classes.
