Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - I just could not get past that final boss. I spent a few hours trying to kill him, and nothing. A few hours, for one battle!! That's bullshit!

There's also an optional side boos that's a wizard and summons balls to ruin your day that has similar problems to the final boss.
I never had to grind before a single boss in Dark Dawn...until him. I got my ass kicked in a few turns, spent a while grinding until every character was level 60, and then I kicked his ass in a few turns. I may have overdone it.

I got close to giving up on Dead Island. Those damn infected (the running zombies for those who don't know) simply never seem to ever stop in certain areas. These things just Zerg rush the hell out of you. and all you can do is TRY to run until they stop spawning.
Once you get a shotgun things start to go your way in that game.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

i fucked up so bad i may have to restart my file for the third time (only 2 hours in). i'm stuck at the part where you have to break into the morgue at the police station. the save is stuck at the last staircase before you reach the floor the morgue is on. however, a glitch occurred so that every time i boot up the file a guard instantly knows my location, runs to me, and i have to waste energy punching him out. other than that it's laid out in a way that i can;t possibly go forward or even backward without failing.

i've had this game for a year and a half, and i've only tried to play it twice. first time i did the tutorial, then got sucked into an other game. i restarted the get back that level of atmosphere, but now it looks like i have to restart again due to this glitch.

someday i will finish.....or rather start the game.
Same spot as were i gave up on Deus Ex HR
I had to restart from the beginning after I came up against the first boss, I had played the whole game stealthily up to that point and just could not beat him.

The Hitman HD Collection. I basically ended up paying $50 for Blood Money (again) because SA and Contracts are MUCH challenging and unforgiving than I was expecting. Mostly owing to incredibly slow walking speed, sneak mode being too slow to stalk enemies with, and the noise made from sprinting having ridiculous range even on the lower settings. I don't have the patience for games with SO much trial and error.

Fuck that game. I never beat the first mission.

The thought of it is enough to make me lose my cool even now.
Not to brag, but i have beaten that game atleast once when i was younger.
But yeah, it's not very well designed.

As for me, Nocturne. Years ago i beated it, and this year i decided to give it another playthough. I quitted at Dante.

I never did kill False King Allant in Demon's Souls. I happen to REALLY enjoy playing as a faith/melee build, much more than any other type of play, but he also happens to have massive resistance to the types of damage a faith/melee build inflicts. The only way around it is either repeating the extremely repetitive level and boss fight until I become so comfortable with his attack pattern that I watch the battle unfold every time I close my eyes, or grinding until my controller wears down from friction. Or, I could start over again as a much more boring character type. None of those options appeal to me, although I keep telling myself I'll return to beat him one of these days.

Actually any time I heard that scream and more than one or two of those things charged at me all sense of tactics or smart gameplay went out the window. I don't know why but those things ripped all sanity away and I just start swinging wildly.

I've never given up on a game because it was hard, purely because It just got so shit I could no longer continue playing, two fine examples of this are Dead Island, a buggy at best shitty 3d survival horror "thing" that fucked up melee combat, the one thing it should of been good at and it just became to terrible to play and The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings, with controls so shitty and attacks that would of been better had you just hurled your stupid white haired ass at them and a character I hated with such a burning passion I literally took pleasure in not letting that cloud of 1s and 0s get revenge for his fallen king

Is that the part where you have to escape the inn/hostel ? Cause I don't really remember that much about the game, so I'm not sure what part you're talking about.
Yup, that's the one.

At some points, the game was definitely difficult. Tho the only place that actually made me quit (and later i used some cheats to make it through it) was the very final minute of the game or so. I did it over and over and over again, but I always died. Made me quite angry.
This was basically my reaction to the game overall.

Maybe it was actually supposed to be a Beta Test of "Dark Souls" and we didn't even know it!

Ninja Gieden Sigma 1.

I don't know what they did to 'normal' but the first level was pretty much unbeatable for me, the first, fucking, level. I could understand the game being hard on a higher diff, but it was on normal, and I'd been playing NG Black a lot before then, so there's no logical reason I should have been getting me ass taken apart like I was.

took it to game stop and traded it in for Folklore, which was much more enjoyable.

Games i didn't finish because i'm too retarded to wrap my head around the combat system ? Two.

Record of Agarest war : Zero
Resonance of Fate .

Seriously i got 5 hours into each without knowing what the fuck i was doing and then started getting roflstomped by EVERYTHING. Like " Tutorial is over , now show me what you learned " , but i learned NOTHING.
Tutorial? There are no tutorials in those games. They tell you nothing except the controls.
Yeah, those are both games that I haven't finished either. I think I got to chapter 5 in Resonance of Fate,
but then one mission was just far too hard, so I must have been doing something wrong. I wouldn't know.

One game that I constantly stop playing is Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's the Perfect Run. I can't get that star.
I get really close then screw up because of the Hammer Bros near the end, then I rage quit.

Dragon's dogma, I play RPGs for the story and that game was stupid hard, I'd fight a group of enemies and they'd all be okay, then one nearly indestructible git would one shot me, and this would happen every time I walked ten metres, and I can only heal with some specific herbs.

Heh, that Dark Souls remark was quite nice. Tho the thing is, i don't remember that fisherman assault part being that difficult, as in i never wanted to give up at that part. I remember re-doing it several times, but i also remember it being one of the most exciting set pieces in the game, and it was downright horrifying, especially the first time. I remember getting so damn frightened i couldn't use the controls correctly, and died quite fast. But again, I played it a very long time ago, and i was quite young, so i could just maybe not be remembering it correctly. And it could be that i had the difficulty level the lowest possible. I did that quite often when i was younger.

Serious Sam: BFE on its hardest difficulty setting is insanely hard. It might be the first game I don't finish.

Some of the ultra cheaty AIs from Soul Calibur 3. Some of them cheat so blatantly obviously it made me sick. Most every fighting gave has really bullshitty AI on the high skill level, but SC3 is in a league of it's own.

More recently, Super Hexagon. My first sitting, I played it for about 18-20 minutes before I stopped due to frustration, and my longest record was just 27 seconds survived.

Totally. I didn't even get past Picture Land. There was a bit where you had to jump through a apace between a group of pencils. Never managed to make it. And the last attempt was made fairly recently.

Hmmm. Can't seem to think of any others.

Honestly, I would say Dishonored, mostly because I wish not to get the horrible ending, but I don't want to kill peopl ether, and stealth is not my strongpoint at all. Also I would say Far Cry 3 near the end, but maybe that's because I lost interest..

Let's see... I have two examples. Sort of. First one was the first Gears of War's final boss. I died about thirty times without even getting through that shield thing of his (which apparently required one of my least favorite weapons in the game to penetrate, with no clue given that this was so) and it was the final straw for me abandoning the entire series. Mindless and unrelatable characters, bland visuals, nonexistent story, and unkillable bosses? Fuck. This.

Second game (chronologically first) was Silent Hill 2, but not because of difficulty; Once I got to the randomly-generated labyrinth, I froze up. The rest of the game had been creepy as all hell, but the prospect of actually getting lost there was more than I could handle.

I really hate to not see the end of a game I've put significant time into, so I usually stick with it even when it gets crap toward the end or it gets crazy hard. There are a few exceptions though:

-snip

I never did finish a campaign in Shogun 2. I managed to take Kyoto and become Shogun... but there was no way in hell I was going to hold it for a year, let alone hold all my other regions who had to donate their armies to my Kyoto takeover.
I have never beaten Total War Shogun 2 with the Uesugi clan on legendary... to my great shame... the last few patches have made it EXTREMELY difficult to do, even with an excellent strategy.

That said, I stopped playing online due to 14 games straight, it felt like the opponents where as tough as soggy tissue paper... no challenge and no time to grind (sit around), waiting for matches, only to dispatch poor players to "get" bracketed into a decent match. That said, arranging matches old school works well.

If you have not tried it... Fall of the Samurai is an absolute masterpiece... the whole trilogy is excellent though. Probably one of most recommended games in recent memory.
