Genre is fast becoming an irrelevant term but generally in games it often depends upon what level you play it at. Even Fighting games can either be just dull brained button mashing or at higher level fast paced tactical engagements depending upon who's playing. Also depends upon which skills.
i think every genre roughly has its games that rape just about any skilled player, it just depends on what type of skills and whats the goal of it all.
alot of people are praising rts's but i have a friend of mine who is...well lets say hes barely above iq of 70 and he straight up rapes on starcraft, thats basically all he played for years. it was bad. so take it however you want to but i dont think there is necessarily ONE TO RULE THEM ALL!
I disagree about what you have to say about FPS, but then again you may be talking about casual play.
But of course, I do agree that RTS takes a lot of skill, the slightest mistakes can be very costly, for example, this one game of SC2 I ended up losing because of the misplacement of ONE unit. I was ever so sad...
Probably one of the ultra-realistic FPS games out there like ARMA or Op. Flashpoint. The ones where getting shot once means you're kinda fucked, running for too long means you can't aim, and bullet mechanics mean you can't hit anything smaller than a barn beyond 30 paces.
Apart from that, 4X games like Galactic Civilizations. Or the really hardcore (most likely German) Strategy games. Those can take a lot of mastering simply due to how many seperate mechanics the game has.
I don't know about genres but the 2 most skill based games I've played are Metal Gear Online (Where it's not unheard of to have around where 100% of kills are head shots) and Demon's Souls (Say what you want but I've fond it to be very fair. If you are careful and know what your doing, you live. If you approach it like a hack and slasher, you die.).
well for one, RPGs. if you can remember every stat that affects what and what bonuses your weapon has, on top of passives, and balancing out with your party, you have a good skill.
