Yugioh had card strategy. IT WAS AN ACTUAL LEGITAMITE CARD GAME. Yes the show was to further the sale of the cards, but it at least had depth.

Pokemon has a crazy world of people living with amazing creatures and battling with them. REAL MONSTERS.

Beyblades had monsters yes, and they weren't real yes, so you can't really compare it to pokemon, but can you compare it to Yugioh? No. Why you ask? because it lacks strategy. You spin a fucking top. The chance of it beating the other top is pure chance. There is zero tension. In Yugioh every goddam card played could change the duel drastically. There is actual suspense. Also Yugioh and Pokemon were better drawn shows......and better made..

yu-gi-oh wasn't made to sell the card game if i remember correctly there was several manga volumes before they even started playing "duel monsters".
and while in real life beyblade would be mostly up to chance (there is the element of heavier spin-thingys etc) there was some kind of skill to it in the show.

SO MUCH NOSTALGIA IN ONE THREAD.

Beyblade and Medabots were the hypest shows when I was a kid. Now that I think about it, it sounds like the same people sang both openings. Medabots also had one of the best GBA games ever made, ever: Medarot: Kuwagata Version. Seriously awesome, check that shit out.

The game was cooler than the Pokemon one as well. Yeah, really.

Even as a kid I thought that the show and the toys were so lame, I felt like I was the only one who could see that they were just plastic spinning-tops..and then I went back to playing with my yu-gi-oh cards.

Oh God! Beyblade, I had completely forgotten about that show. I used to watch that all the time when I was in school, loved it.

They figured out they could never be as awesome as Pokemon and Medabots, or even Digimon, and decided to just give up. I mean, really, spintops? Really? Against awesome battle creatures and robots?

Damn I miss Medabots...
The spintops have monsters in them for some reason which start killing each other when they're spun super hard.

Somewhat paradoxically, today's Beyblades seem to have metal parts to them, but are ironically far less lethal than a couple of the ones I made as a kid. I remember one Beyblade, constructed of a mix of official parts and some I got out of a cereal box, that used to fly around my stadium so fast that there were skid marks all over the damn thing, and all the walls were shredded and scratched to hell.

Those were the days.

But to be clear, Yu-Gi-Oh was always top dog, in both games and the TV counterparts. Even if the show occasionally decided to run on bullshit rules every so often. That whole battle in the first season against the fisherman guy was just . . . even as a kid, my head was spinning at all the rules they decided to make up on the spot. Destroying the moon? Destroying the goddamn Full Moon card to completely dry out the tide on the battlefield? Because apparently having that ocean field card in play made all the water monsters invincible? What the hell is all this?

My personal favourite of the monster related anime programmes was Digimon, that was truely something to behold.

Pfft not really, Megas XLR was off the awesome scale it was that good!
You just became my new favorite person. I love Digimon, and I love Megas XLR. The latter of which is completely downloadable in its entirety off of the Xbox Live Marketplace. I have the first season on my 360. It's still just as awesome as it was back then.

I was watching it just the other day, actually.

Nice.

Wasn't as addictive as pokemon

Wasn't as good a story as digimon

Wasn't as stylin' as yu-gi-oh

Sadly Bayblade was kind of the blacksheep of my run of 'westernized' Kids Anime, I just did not take to it at all.
