Have you noticed how many expansion packs there are for The Sims, each priced at about $20, each containing only (I'm told) tiny bits of content?

Or how about how they make the same (American) football game ten times, increasing the graphics a bit and updating the player rosters and charging $60 a copy?

I think that's the problem people have with EA. Personally, I don't care about them.
Oh come on! The high priced, low content expansion packs is more a BLIZZARD sin. Also, EA produces very few of the actual games they release.

They are PUBLISHERS, people. PUBLISHERS.

Why I dislike EA:
1. The DRM, I don't mind restrictions, but when they limit the number of times I can install a game, I'm getting angry. Also, I don't like things spying of me (the word SecuROM gives me shivers)
2. The unoriginality in their games. The BF-series could've been waaaaay better, especially BF2142.
3. The Sims. Ugh... ruins gaming ;)
4. EA store using currency conversion rates similar to those found on Steam.

The re-releasing is tedious and a huge cash cow for EA, it seems that developers that collaborate with them like DICE (Battlefield) are helping them develop more innovative and risky titles. I hope they keep this up.

Alot of people hate the largly intrusive DRM which EA buys of Sony.

It will stop you playing the game if you have 2 CD/DVD drives.

No joke.

1. DRM, not invented by them.
2. Blame the producers.
3. Produced by maxis. Blame them.
4. So I take it you hate Valve for this, too?

You can't blame the makers of DRM for its use. Thats like blaming the creator of interrogation technicques for their use in torture.
They are the producers.
They own Maxis
In other words, Chibz was wrong on all counts.

Actually, they don't have direct control over the quality of the producers. Also, by no counts is the sims "ruining gaming". Also, do you hate Blizzard for bad expansions? How about Valve for Steam? No? That's 'cause you WANT to hate EA.

DRM and SecuRom. Two things more evil than the Daleks, John Cavil, The Master and Satan if you were to throw all those things into a blender and mix them together.

Electronic Arts has a lot more hate than simple DRM and Rereleases. EA devoured a number of independent game studios a number of years ago. Absorbing some into their Katamari-Like EABall (Such as Bioware), or simple liquidating them (Like Westwood).

EA of late though, has changed my perception of the company. They are striving to put out some really great games (Mirror's Edge, and Dead Space are only a few that come to mind). While they do stick to their old guns like Madden, they are using the money that brings them to create innovating IPs. Which I think compensates for the re-release deal.

As for DRM, EA recently released a patch that strips the DRM from many of their games. (Source [http://boingboing.net/2009/03/31/electronic-arts-rele.html]), so they seemed to have listened to the fans on this one. They are changing and it is for the better, I for one am willing to give EA another chance.

Activision though, you are treading on THIN ice.

It's a common misconception that they REMOVED the DRM with that patch. All it does is allows you to reclaim an installation that you spent. If you lost one through a hard drive crash/virus/reinstalled windows, you are still out of one of your installations.

Hardly what I call a altruistic move. It should have been there in the first place, but instead they give us this [http://www.simprograms.com/ea-to-pc-gamers-install-3-times-buy-another-copy/]

It took me almost a year before I was able to remove the 10 gigs that Mass Effect was taking up. It wasn't running smoothly on my PC, so I was going to wait for my upgrade before playing it.

Not all. Its legitimate to hate Valve for the same reasons.
4. doesn't count. It's a question, not a statement; there's no "wrong" for a question.

For that matter, 4. seemed like a sneaky ad hominem towards TZer0 by insinuating TZer0 has double standards while TZer0 has actually indicated none. In other words, not a honest question.

Normally I'd give Chibz the benefit of the doubt, but in a post otherwise so full of fail, it's too much of a coincidence.

1. That's like blaming the inventors of the different weapons for their use. Or blaming Einstein for the threat of the nuclear bomb.
2. They own DICE [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Illusions_CE]. The full name of DICE is EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment
3. They own Maxis [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxis].
4. It is a love-hate relationship. Yes, they have bad conversion rates, yes, they have DRM - not a very bad form of DRM, unlike SecuROM which makes games unplayable because it thinks you have a fake installation etc. only drawback of the Steam-version of DRM is the fact that you need internet to play and you can't give your games away without giving away your account. However, they do have the most awesome games of all time like Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal.

DRM and remakes of sport games every year

they're getting better though
Same here...there's no point in having such crap DRMs.
The only thing it will possibly do is to get more people to try the pirated versions.

They just remake the same games all the time. They are getting better. Mirrors Edge was the first step.
it was DICE that made that game... same developer for Battlefield series... NOT EA... EA is only the publisher... Same with crysis and i could go on... but its still EA's fault to push the developers to the extreme to the games get fucked up... i hate EA :( they ruined alot of good games Mercs 2 awesome game... and massive amounts of bugs.. and on little tiny patch that fixes wide screen.. NOT!... DAMN EA TO HELL!
