A sashiko shirt.

They're supposed to shrink a lot in the wash, so I sized up. Hopefully it shrinks to the correct size and I haven't just wasted money on an ill-fitting shirt.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Deluxe on sale on Steam for $8. Base game still $60 on Ubisoft so, I can't resist that kind of deal. I hope my Ubisoft purchases on Steam remain OK if Ubisoft goes under.

Christmas presents mainly. Next up is a little tree cos I cannot be arsed putting up the big one this year. Not with our new young cat/shitten running around like they’ve done six lines of Columbia’s finest every few hours.

Usually you should never buy yourself anything in December, but my shoes were actually worn through and for some reason I just kept wearing them until that point. Only got them replaced today.

The sashiko shirt did not shrink in the wash, despite washing and drying it on hot. I feel like everyone who says their shirts shrank a ton have no idea how to do laundry.

Ended up returning the shirt and exchanging it for a smaller size.

The customer service for this company was excellent. The company is in California so shipping was fast, and they sent out the replacement shirt before I had even sent in my return. Got the new shirt within 3 days of asking for the exchange and it fits perfectly.

Highly recommend Taylor Stitch. I have a few clothing items from them and they've all been very high quality.

New motherboard, CPU, RAM, and GPU. Upgrade to WIN 11 finally. Managed to get a free rebuilt upgraded power supply as well. Went from a 7th gen i5 to a current i7 and a 1060 to a 5060 TI. That GPU was the most recent purchase. A massive improvement over the 1060 which ran Baldur's Gate 3, but like garbage compared to kicking it back on and trying it yesterday. It was kind of my congratulations purchase for myself after my recent promotion and big raise.

Well, I have three hdmi devices I'd like to connect to my monitor, only, my monitor has but one hdmi input. So I went on the lookout for a hdmi switchbox a couple weeks ago.

But this proved to be more difficult than I thought, because there's a lot of supposedly high spec yet suspiciously (tho not always) cheap stuff to sift through from 'brands' with names that seem like random assortments of letters and numbers. And any non-dropship garbo devices were usually sold out or on 2-3 months backorder. Eventually found one that meets my needs from a reputable outlet that wouldn't take months to get to me.

Anyway, it arrived today. Smaller than I expected, but feels weighty and sturdy. Comes with a little remote, which was not mentioned in the store listing, but whatever, I'll take it. And it works as advertised. One little nitpick is turning a device on and then switching to that device's channel on does not trigger the auto wake-up of my monitor, but doing it the other way round does, so just need to keep that in mind.

Which device did you get?

Bought a bunch of leather-working tools.

You know what's bullshit? The price of nice full grain leather belts.

There's a belt I like from RRL and it's $225. That's over $250 after factoring in shipping and taxes. Fucking insane.

I have some leather-working experience, and I could dupe that belt for 1/10 the price with about half an hour of work, and make an arguably nicer version as well.

Current plan is to make this belt:

But with the micro-adjust system from this belt:

So it'll be even more functional than the original for a fraction of the price, and the only difference is that it won't have RRL branding on it.

Ralph Lauren are insane if they think ANY belt is worth $225. It's not even made from exotic leather, it's literally just cow-hide and a $1.00 belt buckle.

Sounds like the origin of a business empire.

I love how it looks like the most vanilla-ass basic belt that ever belted.
Yup, and somehow it's $225. Shit's a racket.

I mean, clothes don't necessarily have to be fancy to be expensive. I have a couple of shirts that were $150 each and they're pretty basic shirts and the only reason they're expensive is because they're made from organic cotton grown in Japan and weren't made in a sweatshop.

It's crazy how these days "not made from polyester" and "not made using Chinese slave labor" equals semi-luxury prices.

Gonna try this out on some low-hanging-yet-way-too-high branches this weekend while it’s still freezing outside. I’ve seen enough youtube proof that these things work pretty well. Oak will be the real test, but thankfully I don’t have to touch much of that.

My SO wanted a laptop for light browsing online at night and to install Linux on. Found a cheap refurbished laptop on amazon that was the price point she liked. Specs are decent for a internet machine, i7-8650U, 16 gigs of ram, 256 gigs. Especially one that is 12.5 inches and under $300.

I have never understood the appeal of laptops smaller than 15 inches.

She wants something lighter, doesn't like the weight of a 15 inch. Not to mention this is mostly for use in bed so smaller is easier to maneuver around.

Easy to carry, good enough for browsing and word, if you need a bigger screen you dock it and use an actual display. I loved having a 13" laptop at work.
