What is emo?

Now it's used as a label for what I can only describe as people who attempt to look individual, but tend to look like EXACTLY like each other.

"Emo" is style, like so many others, that I won't berate but also have no desire to pick up for myself. Besides.... something does bother me about someone who seems to have an obsession with personal pain, especially if they know little about it. On that level, it does bother me a bit, but I otherwise do not care to comment on those people when they are around.

After looking around on a few forums I found that the term "emo" is interpreted in many different ways. So my question to you my fellow Escapists is, what do you think "emo" is?

If you are really interested in finding out what the word actually means. Instead of taking the biased opinion of others, just do a little bit of research yourself. Who cares what other people think what the word means, try to find the history of the word on wikipedia or something then make the decision yourself.

If they define themselves as emo, it's definitely the style. Tight fitting clothes, black, make-up on both sexes.
