What is GOOD in gaming?

Okay, so I've noticed this past week that nearly every other thread is, " is SOOOO not as bad as everyone says."

This sort of irked me. I mean I get defending a game you enjoyed, but why are people so eager to blow this trumpet that something they enjoy is good or even great? There's no such thing! It's all relative. I don't give two craps what a reviewer or friend thinks. It might sway me to look more into a game if someone tells me they enjoyed it... But no way would I ever take someones word on the quality of a game, without at least looking it over and trying it myself!

So I also notice that biggest counter (and main argument for that matter) to lovers and haters of one of these games are the sales. (MW3 is the one I'm basing this off of.)

Why is it that everyone also thinks sales = quality?

I scratch my head over this every time. Some awesome things sell well, yes. But so does some really awful crap.

It's especially hard to take it at face value when something just recently released. I mean, how can sales within a week speak to the quality or "good-factor" of something? Just because a hundred million people went to see twilight the day it came out, didn't mean it was an academy award winning drama right?

Someone explain this to me @_@!!!!

I don't think it needs explaining. I think you just answered your own questions. Sales do not equal quality, and quality is subjective. Cut and dry.

Yep. If people just accepted everyone else's opinion -- and that was the end of it -- then there would be no discussion. No messageboards. No reviews. Nothing.

It is true that some people are overly protective of things they like and some people don't understand that this is all subjective...but I think most people just want to talk about games they like/dislike because they find it to be an interesting topic. Nothing wrong with that.

Having fun is always a good thing to do. I don't have many gripes with the CoD series that many patrons of this site seem to have, I understand the hate but I don't feel it. If something does fill be with rage I'll talk about it though. I talk about things I hate because hating things is fun to me... don't really know why.

I know there are people out there who think that sales = quality, but having never met one I don't really understand why they think that. The group of friends I surround myself by are all gaming hipsters.

I am disappointed. I thought this thread was going to be a conan spoof.
Destroying the computer-generated mobs.
Driving the idiotic, unmoving villagers to terror.
To hear the music of the "death of final boss" cutscene.

That is what is good in gaming! :)

Games that are not afraid of being colorful, silly, gory, shooty, and many many other types of fun. Yeah, not everyone likes mortal kombat or the saints row series, but at the very least those games don't have a problem being themselves and not trying to be much more. Being an unabridged fun fest is not a bad thing.

And then there are still developers trying to push gaming in new directions but also refining the old ones to near perfection. Either way, gaming is awesome right now, despite all the money grubbing going on.

Gamers: Fun, I don't want any if's and's or but's. Just give us a enjoyable experience.

Developers: God damnit bring some fucking innovation to the table, ESPECIALLY to the shooter genre. I'm sick of shooting into a desolate wasteland of cut and dry blown up building for 20 hours and want to be able to shoot at fucking unicorns pillaging house holds... Just give us something new.
