I've very little knowledge to make an objective assessment. However, I've fired an M16 and an AK-47, and I preferred the former: lighter, less severe recoil, and I thought more accurate.
seriously? thats pretty damm cool dude. i would actually like to try and fire some of those guns, just without going into the army.

No love for the new Tavor TAR-21? :(
i will admit i was impressed by the vid. accuracy is one thing i value in a weapon. but the fact that the red dot sight is built into the weapon kinda scares me. unless there is a quick and tool-less way to switch to iron sights, your gonna be screwed if your batteries die on you. but overall i like it.

AK-47 unquestionably. Sure, there are many things that other guns can do better, but when it comes to overall effectiveness and reliability, there's nothing like it. If I ever found myself needing an assault rifle, I wouldn't settle for anything else. Unless I had no choice or something.

probably no-one here ever held a gun before.
you,re probably talking about weapons in game.

and you can,t really know without first hand experience.

in my opinion there isn,t a best gun.
there are only good shooters that know how to use a gun effeciently.

The M16A2. It's what we trained with in basic. I thought it was gonna kick like a mule, but if I guy my size can fire it with no problem, it's the best. Plus it's more accurate/reliable than the AK. It does give up a small amount of power though.

It does, you can see the front metal sight raised in some of the stock shots in the video.

There are only for assault rifles I would voluntary use is the M4A1 Sopmod, AK-47/74, HK416, G36C, FN SCAR, the Famas, Tar-21(Tavor Assault Rifle 21st Century), G3, and the XM8

PS: Yes I know these are alot of weapons, but I don't give a shit

If you were going to be out in the desert by yourself with nothing but lube and ammo, AK all the way.
if you were in an army with support and constant gun maintanence, I'd rather have the m468 instead. It's like asking what is the best fruit. they all have pluses and minuses. You should have asked 'what is the most accurate AND reliable rifle' or something.
I like the feel of a g36c, also knowing I can fold the stock in if i have to. It then becomes mp5-length. However the accuracy would leave me wanting at long range, so for that maybe a G3 or L85

Clearly not many people know much about guns here. As with say, a longboard, there is no such thing as the "best" assault rifle. Picking an assault rifle is entirely dependent on the current situation and personal taste. Me and my friend have discussions about this fairly often, he prefers the M4, and similar weapons, which allow for lighter rounds, hence the ability to carry more with you, as well as general advantages of a 5.56mm round. I on the other hand prefer battle rifle style weapons such as the M14. I don't feel confident shooting at the enemy with a glorified .22. In my opinion, the best era of war was WWII, where they cared less about the little features of weapons, which really don't matter, and more on knocking for the enemy with one shot. I also appreciate the ability to reach out further than most 5.56mm weapons can and still inflict some damage.

With that said, as mentioned above, I really don't like assault rifles, since they compromise range and power for rate of fire and ammo capacity. So I'd say an M14 with a EBR stock. I really wish everyone would shut up about the Tar/Tavor, since it is pretty much the Halo of assault rifles, it has brought nothing new to the table, but everyone still seems to love it for some unknown reason. Bullpups are supremely overrated. The SA80 blew so bad, that the brits needed HK to fix the entire design so it didn't jam more than a 'nam M16. If I have to choose and assault rifle, however, it's going to be some variation of a G36 in 6.5mm Grendel.

What is this crap?

Nobody uses AK-47s. They are all AKMs. The AKM was designed in the 50s to solve all the reliability issues the AK-47 had. The AK-47 was NOT a good rifle.

AKM!

Me personally, I'd go for the M-16A4 due to it's impressive modularity, the reduced recoil, and it's pinpoint accuracy.

the FN FAL, its superior to both the ak47 and m16. its super accurate and fires a 7.62X51mm NATO round capable of tearing through concrete and kill the guy behind it and the guy behind him, and is very reliable.

Well, im more of a sniper. But the ak-47 Is used around the world for a reason.
Because it's so simple that it requires almost no training to figure out how to use.

In terms of modularity, there is the XM8, shame it breaks down so quickly.

I agree most people would choose the AK-47. It is cheap, simple as CRAP (there are videos of 5 year olds cleaning Kalishnikovs). Unfortunately, simpler almost never means better. That said, the FN SCAR has my vote 100% of the way.

You may find it a bit interesting (well ok, maybe not) to know that this thread was completely lost on me. I presume it's because I'm not American. I don't even know if you're talking about real rifles. Are any other British/Irish/non-Americans completely lost?
yes im talking about real rifles. i dont think it has anything to do with nationality. as far as the British go, i've seen quite a few RAF with what looked like M4 rifles. and for the Irish, i was told the choice rifle for the IRA is the AR-15. im prety sure that most countries have weapons, but i will admit, not to the extent that the american civilians do.
Oh my. I think it has EVERYTHING to do with nationality. How many people here are in the RAF?! Or worse, the IRA? I mainly speak for Britain and Ireland. I'm not sure about other countries' attitudes. The majority in Ireland are NOT in the IRA. I would hazard a guess based on my general interaction with people for the last 20 years spent living here, that MOST Irish people hugely dislike the IRA. The same doesn't stand for the RAF. But I wouldn't say many gamers are in the RAF.

I wasn't having a dig anyway (I'll reserve my opinions on household guns on this thread). I was just surprised at what a culture shock it was.
really? i wish i could get a Brittish military opinion on this. i'm in the USAF and almost ALL of the guys i work with have a Xbox360 or PS3. based on that i thought Brittish forces would be gamers themselves. could be wrong tho.
as for the majority in both countries i know that most are not in the military and almost no one is in the IRA. but with Brittain as a military superpower i thought the civilians would have at least an idea about what the thread was asking. as for bringing up the RAF in Brittain and the IRA in Ireland i was trying to convey that there are weapons in these countries and SOME people know one from another and have preferences of one over others. if you dont know anything about weapons or dont have an opinion on them why post? bringing up the fact that i am american and that this thread is completely foriegn to everyone outside the US is just wrong.
