Registered just to post and have inner dialogue about which is the best single plyaer game in my subjective opinion.
I see many games that are from 20th century so I figured I'd start chronologically and include ratings(x/10) about which game is the best of the bunch in my opinion.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was one of those games I would complete once every 6 months for 2 or 3 years in a row. After the 1st two times I wanted to reach perfection by having practically full ammo, health and armor for the whole game that meant getting all headshots while taking as little damage as possible. That would be 8/10 for that game by me.
The next game I'd like to mention for the satisfaction of some rpg fans out there is Fable:TLC. I feel that Fable was set out to be exactly what the name says - to be a fairytale of sorts. The game accomplishes what it was ment to be exceptionally well. The plot that is somewhat predictable but what did you expect from a fairytale, the voiceacting and music are well decent and the combat is very responsive and satisfying.(8.5/10)
Here's a game that I personally consider to have the best voiceacting and plot that I have ever heard or seen in any game: Max Payne. The combat is quite good, the graphics are very good considering the time the game was released.I gotta dedicate a bit more than a couple words to describe the voiceacting and plot. The voiceacting is at such level that it could an audiobook or a movie that you get immersed into and actually start thinking the way the character thinks.I personally got very immersed into the game and after completing the game the world seemed in a bit darker colours and I felt a little empty cause the game's plot delivers just so well how the character in a novel(yes, I will call this particular game a novel cause half the game is an actual freaking novel; in a good way certainly)is thinking and feeling and the inner monologues aren't just about who he is about to pop into the head and who is gonna try to put a bullet into the back of his own head. (9.5/10. I'd like to mention the sequel as well but that just wasn't what the 1st game is and it would be silly to expect it to be; although the sequel was exceptional as well.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Shadow Of Chernobyl is another game that I'd like to nominate. The first time I played the game I had heard little of it. A couple friends told that it had astonashing graphics and was supposedly a good game but that was a complete understatement of what the game really was. It is another game that is really immersive and with what you can get carried away really easily. Before noticing I started making decisions in my ingame story to decide what it really was I wanted to do and how I wanted to get there.Which area I wanted to go into, what equipment I wanted to use, what I wanted to actually do, would I take any quests and would I need and which was my long-term objective in the game.I set out objectives and did whatever had to be done to reach the objectives, even if it included carrying tens of KGs of assault rifles to sell them for a couple measly roubles. The graphics are astonishing, the combat is really satisfying, the plot is great, music/voiceacting/ambient sounds are really something in this game and the diversity and replayability of the game is perhaps one of the greatest attributes of this game. 9.8/10 due to the game having some bugs/glitches but the overall game si so amazing that I don't really even mind them. The sequels are amazing too.Clear Sky had many bugs as well but in time they have been removed with patches.Clear sky would be 9.2/10 and the last game Call Of Pripyat would be 8.5/10. Sure the game was pretty much bugfree but that really doesn't please me if the game has less replayability and a whole less action and combat.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is expected to come out in 2012 and frankly I'm a bit sceptical but still I'd problably sell my cat(really isn't comparable to the guy who would sell one and crush his other nut but I want to be clear that I would actually do that)if the game will be as great as the 1st game in the series.
