if you want to factor in sheer replayability and possibilities, then objectively it may have to be Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress.

while i don't like either of those games and my favorite is Prototype i honestly think those may have the most potential of any singleplayer game out there

Quite possibly Shadow of the Colossus. Every time I playthrough that game, I anticipate the next colossus. Even though I've already fought him a few times before.

For me, it's less about the games themselves and more about the times I spent playing them. For example, FF7 was an awesome game, but my parents were splitting whilst I played it and it was my escaping game. Which means everytime I play or think about it I'm slightly reminded of those times.

So I'll have to say either Metal Gear Solid 3 or FF10, because I played them back in the day when the world was innocent, and so was I.

Is that a bit sad?

My top 10 in descending order:

LoZ:OoT
Fallout 3
Mass Effect 2
Portal
Bioshock
Assassin's Creed
Dead Space
Silent Hill 2
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Pokémon (Any version)

The replay value of most of these games is through the roof. The reason the Pokémon series is last is because most of the single player experience (for me) is preparation for playing with friends. I've probably put almost 2k hours into these games alone. I will admit, there are games I have yet to experience that I really want to, such as Shadow of the Colossus, Psychonauts, inFamous, Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, etc. but we can't play everything.

Some that have stood out to me are Dead Space 1 and 2, Call of Duty 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Red Dead Redemption, KOTOR, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. If you haven't tried out that last one, get it on Steam: it's a little hard to pick up, but impossible to put down.

Morrowind.

Nothing else even comes close for me. I have yet to find any game with the same level of depth or breadth (aside from the combat mechanics).

Portal wasn't bad.
But the prize goes to the first Halo for me. First time I really gotten this deep into the story, it made me buy the books, get the DVD, etc. For me, this game is what games should be, a strong single player and good multiplayer (I only got to play the multiplayer once on a LAN party, and trough XBconnect when that worked, but it's the only game who's singleplayer I replayed dozens of times)
ya my friend revealed the vail for me we loved the game played alot in halo 2 we still have not beat Regret on legendary you know when you kill regret.

OT: Halo is my favorite but Fallout3/New vegas is a close 2nd

Very difficult question... Hmm, I'm gonna have to list a few as "best of all time" since I'm so darn indecisive xD

- Valkyria Chronicles
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Persona 3
- Persona 4
- InFamous

I honestly can't decide which one though, they're all my favourites for different reasons... xD

Skies of Arcadia, unforgettable characters, airship battles, and really flashy super moves in normal battles, you can smack your enemies with a moon!
This. Forever this.

I remember getting it as I was desperate for any Dreamcast game at that point and what I got was my favourite game ever.

I would sell my left nut and smash the other for a sequel.
The port/upgrade version on Gamecube is pretty good too. There's a few little extras, plus all of the Dreamcast DLC stuff.
I've been hunting in England for it for ages, but it's really hard to find and I don't want to spend the insane prices they are asking on eBay for it.
Never give up you never know when parents are going to clean out a kids room or something.
