Pretty much anything by Junji Ito. I don't scare easily, I've read many books by Lovecraft, King, etc. but this guy just creeps me out... I get this crawling feeling on my skin when I read his manga...
You can read his probably mildest and well-known work here http://openawesome.com/junji-ito-horror-manga/enigmaofamigarafault.html
...I've heard of him.
Didn't he used to draw hentai?
Mine is similiar; he's not as well known, and his name's Shintaro Kago. If you decide to look him up, NSFW. Because he draws a genre of ecchi known as "ero guro". To give an example: One of his drawings are of a woman getting her digestrive track sucked out with a vaccum. Decidedly not erotic.
Some of his stuff is very, very unsettling. But perhaps the worst part about it is that, while he draws it "to shock people" and says he finds none of it erotic, someone, somewhere, does. And that's the worst part.
I suppose the scariest nightmare I've ever had was just of a child vomitting. In extremely viscous amounts. Until bits of her started comic out. Including a few very realistic bones. Until she looked at me, then her eyes gooped into her skull. Then she barfed that into a bucket. Then she got up and started asking for help. Then she died.
It may have been triggered by the dog vomitting 1/4 of a chicken. I was 6.
Also, patau syndrome!
Edit: The Fault of Amigara. Oh God... So, people go into holes that are shaped perfectly like them, but because the mountain they formed in is at an angle, they fall in, until at the other end, they become vaguely-human like abominations..
