Yet another thread inspired by IRC antics, yes, but I think it needs to be clarified.
What is our alignment? More importantly, why do you think so?

I've always thought of it as neutral good, but seeing as those who wield power, like LaCoil, Ultrajoe -and possibly Yahtzee- are evil or chaotic, I'm not sure what to believe any more...

We are lawful evil, i believe. After all, we follow the rules, yet still contribute to decay.

I have to agree. Lawful Evil.
Theres chaos, but there's a method to our madness.
Everything is for a reason.

The average is probably Neutral Good or Lawful Neutral I think.

How many jokers do we have? Do they count as Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, or Chaotic Neutral?

I don't know, Ultrajoe has proven to be a douche, but I think overal we mostly work for the good of the community, even though it feels like Big Brother is always watching with the ichy fingers of the reporters.

As I said in the IRC, I range from Chaotic Neutral to Neutral Evil. I've found myself hanging closer to the Lawful Evil of late. I think it's the influence of a BanSword which is made of pure evil, and awesome.

I think if you weighed up the relative alignment of everyone on the Escapist it'd be about true neutral, perhaps leaning towards chaotic. The overall scale slides anyway, and people have their own interpretations. Hell "Good" and "Evil" are purely arbitrary and relative scales based on a western Christian-backgrounded moral and common law system. Perhaps not purely as magic can be any alignment.

If a particular person called themselves neutral good because they believed that mass slaughter was a positive thing, would they still be neutral good?

Lulful evil.

Your madness has a sense of hilarity to it that induces lulz.

Lawful Stupid. Mostly follow the rules, but the majority of the forum is filled with pointless shit that goes nowhere... And so on.

Eh, it's not like there are any better alternatives either.
Wouldn't Lawful Stupid be "I will follow the rules even when they go against everyone's better judgement and plain common sense"? I guess you could say Lawful-something, plus stupid.

But how could I blissfully thrive in a place teeming with evil?
And I say this with eyes twinkling with innocence.

I think the Escapist in itself as Neutral Good, as the writing is sometimes unorthodox but directed against ignorance. The passersby of the forums have shown the whole scale of alignment, but I have noticed a large percentage of neutral evil, chaotic neutral, and chaotic good.

Chaotic Good.

This topic in particular kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I have a friend who absolutely one-hundred-percent insists that the D&D alignment system is applicable to real life, and he won't shut up about it.

This forum has some of the least amount of trolls I've ever seen, and you people actually try to be civil to each other and follow the rules. Lawful Good. And don't take that as an insult.

Overall alignment? Not sure. But predominant types here on the forums are either Chaotic Neutral (because this is the Internet) or Lawful Evil (because this particular site has many sorts of elitists, like it or not).

First you tell me that...

Yeah, way to go about "purley arbitrary and relative scales". Yes, there are some things that belong in gray area, but stomping or kittens will never be good, and helping someone when they fall and break a leg will never be evil - despite anything all those pretentious nihilists may say.

Lawful neutral, this is why the trolls get smashed because the laws are laid. Lately lawful evil because the banhammer has been awakened...with a vengeance!

Tell your friend to fix his wording and say that almost everyone embodies two elements of each scale to varying degrees (when they're acting normally). The last ones will show up occasionally though. In other words, it doesn't work at all.

We are Justice
Probably undecided, seeing as it tends to flux between different types at times.
