What is the most irritating ending?

Endings that I'm too stupid to understand and thus cannot enjoy.

Evangelion: probably my most hated ending in all media for the above reason. I've seen the show and movies, read about people's opinions online and in no way understand how people came to their conclusions about this shows ending. For what its worth, I've never got 'poetry' growing up...I simply look at things too literally to understand the greater meanings.

Lost: While I mostly understand the shows ending, it simply leaves you disappointed and unclear as to the nature of the series as a whole.

KOTOR 2: Complicated, confusing and unsatisfying conclusion to a game that had a strong build up and is extremely fun to play. The ending of any story should not simply involve someone explaining themselves and their motivations.

Half-Life 2: Many people praise this game's story, I simply don't get it. This could be because I've never played the first one, or Episodes 1 and 2. But the game should at least stand on its own merits to some degree. That game is amazing, but the story it told is extremely disappointing considering the great world that's been created around it.

All Final Fantasy games: I love this series...but they always build up to an extremely cheesy ending against some unbeatable force that is only surpassed by some unexpected realization or event.

Im going to have to say the end of NWN2, Storm of Zehir.

It started off being less story driven than MotB, and less character driven then NWN2's OC. And then the ending comes. And it ends. Nothing has really changed
OK, well, to stall an evil God, but under 4ed rules, he gets out anyways

Thus, nothing has really changed on the realms.

AC1's ending almost made me rage quit the whole series. It's one thing to end on a cliffhanger, another to not even let us know what the FUCK is going on!
You think thats bad? The ending to Assassin's Creed 2 leaves you with more questions. And Brotherhood ends on such a "reallywtfWUT!" note that I'm convinced thats most of the reason players will by the next game.
Honestly, I was able to accept AC2 and Brotherhood much easier than AC1. I think it's because with AC1, the idea of the POEs and magic crap hadn't been established. I went through AC essentially playing a historical fiction with some modern sci-fi elements...but at the end it was revealed to be this SUPER advanced technology from the distant past? That was just...ugh, it drove me nuts.

The ending of No Country For Old Men. Seriously... what the hell? Maybe it made more sense in the book? I just don't know.
Are you talking about the speech and dream? Its not terribly hidden symbolism. Tommy Lee is old and facing his own mortality. The main point is that he gave up.

There are lots of times where they darw parralells with the two characters. But in the end Tommy Lee Jones, gives up. He stops the chase. He retires. Very unhollywood. But he faced his fear when he storms the (empty) hotel room and after that point gives up and contemplates his own mortality. Very poetic. I loved it.

Having your other main character die off screen...thats a wierd choice. I think it implies that its not about him, a bit of how fleeting life is.
I think my main problem was the other main character dying off screen, yes. The movie never focused too much on Tommy Lee Jones, it was all about the other guy, and then they just kill him off like he's a side character and finish the movie with Tommy.

And what was with the bad guy getting in a car crash, surviving, and walking off? Was that just a "shit happens and karma doesn't exist" kind of thing?

I can come up with reasons for why the ending is "poetic", but its a movie with an interesting, intense plot that all of a sudden just ends with a strange artsy-movie ending. I walked away feeling like I had only seen half a movie.

It's almost like 2 different people wrote the script. Separately.
Bob: "Ok Jim, I know I love drama movies and you like artsy ones, but maybe if we join forces we can be even better!"
Jim: "Ok Bob! I'll do the beginning and ending and you write the middle!"
Bob: "Sounds good. Let's do this!"

First up "Halo 2" ending, i just HATED that damn ending

and up there "Braid" is a great example of a BAD ending, its pretentious and overly complicated, i just hate the kind of artist that is too smart for his own good, i mean, it cam up as a half assed work instead of a masterpiece (THIS IS AN OPINION, THANK YOU)

other than those, there are "Meh" "Good" "brilliant" and "OMG WTF THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!"

I will refrain for posting them waithing for the next batch of threads that will touch this subject.

Shaman King (the ending made when it was canceled) 285 chapters brought to an abrupt end with a giant unexplainable metaphor

Really guys? We've gone this far into the thread without a single mention of the Sopranos? It was so frustrating that they made a parody of it on Family guy, where they finished the episode mid-sentence. Note that it isn't a BAD ending, but it is really the most irritating thing I can think of. Seriously, imagine if I just finished this repl

Dragon Age 2 is the most recent ending that has giving me an intense feeling of disappointment.

Seriously, I felt it was like a kick to the nads, it all came way too quickly and I honestly couldn't believe this was the end game even as I was fighting the final boss (who I was totally shocked was the final boss)

Left a bad aftertaste and further dragged down my opinion of the game.

Indigo Prophecy, as has been said time and time again.
Of course, you can disregard all of the hilariously bad events that happen during the second half of the game all the way up to the final ten minutes and that would still be enough to just utterly ruin everything. For all the build up or the Oracle and the AI and the conspiracy and the Indigo Child, the way everything is solved just boils down to:

"Okay I'mma run in there and shoot my zappy powers at them. PEWPEWPEWPEW! Yay I win! And so the world was safe forever."

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Ending was a cliffhanger...and then the 3rd film sucked, therefore leaving the 'shock' at the end a bit underwhelming.

LA Noire's ending was a bit weird...

Jeepers Creepers. The Creeper kills all the police officers in the station, takes the main dude away and takes his eyes. They get chased and only one of them escapes while the other is killed...just for his eyes?

There were a lot of parraleels between the 3 characters. The way they handled being injured. The way they sat in the chair, the milk drinking. Its been a while, but I think it was trying to establish that all 3 were the same people with different lives, almost. It sounds wierd but imagine 3 sides to the same coin if you know what I mean.

The offscreen death oints to the individual not being important and its the archetype of all 3 that is disapearing.

I understand fully being "irritated" with it and that being perfect for the thread. Its so close to making sense to me. Like the grand idea being on the tip of my toungue, I just am having trouble explaining it.

I think the worst part was that we had to wait 2 years after Assassin's Creed for 2 to come out. Whereas 2, Brotherhood and Revelations are only a year apart.

For me, a disappointing ending is when nothing unexpected happens and there isn't really a change between the way things were at the beginning and the way they are in the end. It makes it feel like the whole experience was for nothing.
My favourite endings are unexpected, whether they're happy or sad. I like not knowing how it's going to end, and getting so into the story because I really, really care what happens.
I tend to prefer happy endings, but not unrealistically so.
