What is the WORST, most dislikable personality trait a person can have?

Pretentiousness. When someone thinks that they are so much better than everyone around them for stupid shit, especially 'arty' bollocks. Not that art is bad, but for instance when my brother went to see Phantom of the Opera at some theatre or other, and when he came back he was absolutely fucking insufferable. Phantom is great, but he was making out as though he was some fucking cultural bloody messiah because he'd seen it, and started sort of disregarding anything that wasn't that, and relating everything back to the fact that he's seen it. Maybe I could understand if he'd written the blasted thing. Luckily this only lasted a couple of months, but when someone starts acting all aloof and above it all for things that just don't warrant it, they deserve a verbal beating. For about an hour.

People who are completely unable to accept anyone else's opinion. One of my friends is like that. She's a generally rational person, but whenever it comes to actual tastes she is just insufferable! Just recently she watched Godzilla and in her opinion that was a horrible, horrible movie. She then proceeded to mock everyone who dared to enjoy the film while also writing "ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS?!!".
Another example was when she watched the "Snowpiercer". In her opinion it was a masterpiece and her general impression of the movie basically clouded everything else about it. I thought it was a rather good movie but with some major flaws including HORRIBLE and incredibly CLICHE villains. But nope, for her "Villains were awesome!" even though any person who actually knows what makes a good villain will see that this is simply not the case in Snowpiercer. And now I feel that that statement was somewhat ironic...

Lack of empathy. With lack of introspection being a close, and often related, second. It's okay to want some things, like some things, hate others- but beyond essentials like food and shelter and truly irrelevant personal quirks like hating brussels sprouts or loving the smell of cedar, it's important to be able have some sense why you feel that way and why some people might feel otherwise, even if you subsequently decide their viewpoint is somehow inferior or incorrect.

...Actually, *especially* if you subsequently decide their viewpoint somehow inferior or incorrect.

People who think being a unnecessarily dickish is being edgy or real. You know the ones who have to go out of their way to state how little they care when a tragedy happens or someone is venting about having a bad day in their own space instead of just continuing on without comment like everyone else who doesn't particularly care dose. The ones who always think that when people don't agree with their usually racist and sexist views its just "pc bullshit" and "being afraid of the truth". It goes hand in hand with being egotistical to which is another terrible trait.

if they really didn't care they wouldn't waste the effort to actually comment...or they think their geniouses for figuring out that people actually have a limit on how much they can get emotionally invested in other people

the funny thing is wasn't Phantom Of the Opera considered a "pulpy middle of the road" novel when it was released? but since its old people assume its a classic...

on the oposite end of things people who get super defensive over their taste to the point of dismissing anything remotly different or "high brow" as pretentious trash

for example I'm a sci fi reader, I get it, elitism sucks, but at the same time while I understand your devotion to all things "middle of the road YA" it might do you some good to branch out a bit, even challenge yourself

I suppose I'd say people who are verbally abusive to others. I mean, there's plenty of other things I don't like - prejudiced folks, the massively willfully ignorant, passive aggressiveness, the self-entitled, but most of that can be deflected or handled with the right approach and minimal confrontation before too much damage is done - verbal abuse does damage fast, it often comes from malice rather than ignorance, which I find much harder to forgive, and confrontation to defuse it can lead to escalation.

Fortunately for me, I don't really come across that all that often - maybe I'm just lucky, maybe Canada really is uncommonly polite, I dunno. So I just have to deal with normal idiocy every now and again, and I really pity idiots more than I hate them, so I don't mind so much.

My idiot side is shining through blindingly here, but I'm not certain if this last line was directed at me or not. Assuming it is, I don't disregard things that are high brow or possibly considered pretentious, I just hate when people act better than their peers because they're into something that is any of those things. Assuming that the sentence was more general, then I completely agree. I like the 'try anything at least once' approach. After all, I never would have read ASOIAF or the Belgaraid/Malorean books had my brother not suggested them, and they were both awesome.

I hate those who make it a point to be condescending and act like they are superior to everyone else.

I also can't stand moody folks, or ones you know are trying way too hard to be even remotely funny.

Worst personalities though are people who are basically living PinkiePies'. The introvert in me just can't stand that kind of energy.

I really hate illogical people. They know they're being irrational but they don't care. Particularly my family, it really grinds my gears.

Arrogance can be annoying with certain people, sometimes its funny. I really do hate men that act like they're tough shit and are aggressive or want to fight all the time. Grow up, please.

Well you must hate everyone then because people are illogical. And if you think you're not that's self delusion witch is illogical. And be thankful for that because you could not be a purely logical person and be sane.

Suppose I meant more irrational than illogical. People that make mountains out of molehills

Im not entirely sure if the term is correct in English, but people with a "Holier than thou"-attitude.

Harmless examples include Vegetarians and Vegans who absolutely NEED to tell you how much of a better person they are for not eating meat. Getting worse with people who ride around on the fact how much healthier their lifestyle is, or how much better their carrier is going, or how superior their hobby is. Worst of all are those people who actively try to make you feel like a bad person for not participating and caring about all the shit they do. Props to you for donating to certain organisations, or donating blood. It's cool of you to try for care for every person you know, and its even better that you try to help friends and family with their problems. I respect ttat. There is NO NEED, to freaking ride that shit on a flaming horse that plays piano, everytime we talk to each other. There is a point where it looks like you just want to polish your Halo and I honestly dont care about that.

Second would be people that take everything personally, cant differentiate between humor/sarcasm and a serious conversation, or people who are easily upset. I dont wanna use "sensible" since that could be a lot of other things too.

Anyway, I hate it when I just say neutral things, and people instantly interpret stuff into it. I cant really emphasise how much it pisses me off, when I write something harmless like:

Friend: "Wanna play X / Go see Y?"
Me: "Nah, not in the mood."
Friend: "Yeah yeah, you just dont see us. I get it."

And that's one of the harmless examples. I had massive arguments with people, simply for stating that I dont like a certain Band or Genre, or claryfing errors. I just cant stand when people immeadeatly go for the whiny "Im such a poor sod."-approach whenever they're confronted with the slightest negative response.

The older I get the more I find aggression to be one of the most disgusting of human characteristics. I even hate myself for when I used to be that way. I know it's been useful in our evolution but I think we should be enlightened enough by now to know how to deal with problems in other ways. I don't mind competitiveness in sports. But nothing turns me off more than aggression.

And then they show up at your house anyway to pick you up and you're like, "Dude I said I didn't want to go." and then the face comes over them, and they can't fuckin process that you don't want to go. And then comes the "But we're your mates..." and the "We came all the way here. For you."

Laziness mainly. There's a guy at work that only washes about once a week, never washes his hands, hardly ever washes his uniform, never cleans up after himself, never helps anyone else out, all due to the fact that he is just plain fucking lazy.

I'm lazy, won't deny it. But I keep myself clean, I keep my clothes clean, I clean up my mess and I help my colleges when they need it, and not just because they ask.

I kid you not, the Captcha wants me to type "clean hands".
That's not laziness, that's just being a slob, HUGE difference!

OT:self-obsessed, thinking everything is about them always rubs me the wrong way

I'm sure there are worse traits, but for the sake of posting something slightly different I'd have to say that overly sensitive people really piss me off.

My family are all quite sarcastic and being the youngest of three boys I've always been very thick-skinned and I make a lot of jokes at other people's expense. I'm not being serious, obviously, it's a sign that I feel comfortable enough around people to make a joke about them, but some people just don't get it. I don't understand how people live with such fragile egos. I had a girlfriend once that had a go at me about it when she broke up with me, and I was pretty damned surprised. Had she not met me? What's worse is that she never said anything, never told me she was uncomfortable with it and knew me for a long time before we dated, so she must have been expecting it.

It's not really one of the worst traits that people can have, but it's one that I personally find very difficult to get along with.

People who cut you off mid-sentence to disagree with you, before you've even fin/
"Hey, I don't think it's that bad!"
/...ished the sentence, so they don't even know what you're gunna say. Let me finish my damn point, before you shout your own, different or the same or whatever. It's common politeness.
