I don't know if this was mentioned anywhere but look at what Bomberman Act Zero did. 99 levels and you die once guess what, you start from the very beginning, level 98 and you die? Well shit you just wasted 4-6 hours of your life.

A shit story. I cannot stand a game with a shit story. It's part of the reason it took me so long to finish GTA4 and Oblivion, they both had such dull stories that I couldn't progress with interest.

Turret sections, bosses spawning a twin of themselves(heres looking at you Dark Souls), fast zombies and unskipable cutscences.

I would personally be quite upset if a game I was playing jumped into my face and exploded.

I hate repetition, so i hate grinding or having the game rely on you having to play it more than once to get the full experience.
So i hate:
Games that make you grind for levels because they decided to make the boss much stronger than the average level.

I can't remember the MMO name, but basically it was an MMO with difficulties, you could start on easy or normal with a character, and that base how much EXP you would get, but also harder difficulties had higher level caps. If you wanted to play the full game, you needed at least 3 or 4 different characters to play each difficulty.

Damn all sentience into eternal torment and suffering.

Not really that specific to games, but I'm still pretty sure it's the worst thing anything can do.

Being boring its not that bad. You just stop playing and move on.

QTE's are not that bad either. Consider this: band games are nothing but QTE's

In my book, it would be far worse if an interesting game would have long, difficult stretches without allowing you to save, making you real tense. Then crash and wipe your save in the process.

And then, there's... FRICKING ESCORT MISSIONS

For me, it depends on genre. An RPG without magic is about as bad as it can get. But so is an FPS without regenerating health. As is a puzzle game that doesn't accept creative solutions.

Honestly, I meant to say blood on the screen animation. It drives me absolutely bat-shit and gives me headaches.

Truthfully, I don't like non-regenerating health, regenerating health just makes the game flow faster and be more balanced, but it's certainly not game-breaking.

Non regenerating health makes games feel better for me imo. Instead of feeling like you're being surrounded by a magic cloud that heals all your wounds, you feel all alone.

I can understand that, but I feel weak and alone and helpless enough in my own real life. I prefer feeling powerful when I play video games.

You thought GTA IV had a shit story? Wow, I couldn't disagree more. The story was one of the only appealing things about it. The themes in that game are so strong and vivid. I think the story is a work of art - and I drew a lot of parallels from it.

Not including differing levels of difficulty.
I'd consider myself a hardcore gamer in the sense that I love games and play them all the time. But talent wise, I'm horrible at them. I can create strategies and prepare, but for some reason when I'm in the thick of battle, I lose all function and just get confused and button mash.
I'm just not that good at harder difficulties (and that's not from lack of trying, either).
And yes, as a 22 year old man, I can recognize this in myself and not feel ashamed. Some people are great at games, me I just get lucky sometimes. xD

It's why I'm thankful to play newer games, where they're either more forgiving or come with the ability to set difficulty.
For instance, I'm trying to play through Gothic 2 right now and I keep getting frustrated because there's no telling how difficult an encounter will be without meeting that encounter (and they pop out of no where a lot). So I won't have saved for a while and then I'll find myself dead and have to play an hour over again. Then I don't want to play the game at all. >>

Personally, I also REALLY dislike achievements/trophies tied to difficulties. It makes me feel like they're laughing at me for not being good enough to beat a game on hard (or sometimes normal). I do recognize that they're there to reward players who can, so I do my best to ignore them. xD

Re-arrange standard button layout (making y or triangle shoot)
unskipable cut scenes (first time it's okay if you want your point to go across, but allow it to be skipable the second time around)
releasing the game without properly testing it (buggy like crazy)

Really? anything other than regenerating health is "as bad as it can get" in the category of "the worst thing a game can do"?

Faster??!??

Sorry, but the problem with rebounding health is how it forces you to run back, hide and stay low.

And it MUST be this way by design as you are carrying around an infinite supply of auto-use health-kits, your health can't recover instantly and your health can't be so large that it never approaches empty in a typical fight. In that way, I feel extremely WEAK with rebounding health. Just a fraction of a second under fire and warning beeps or hyperventilation say I MUST seek cover, and good cover where I won't get even a single HP of damage for 5 seconds!

The thing about a health system using health packs is it can give you a much larger health bar, you can survive far more hits from the enemy before you need to tap-out.

Then of course there is the simple joy of finding something that boost your health, a reward for daring exploration. Rather than health regenerating in cover, a consolation prize for cowardice.

And of course it's not the only way, though lazy developers like those of Duke Nukem Forever sure thought that.

One way that seems obvious for DNF's "ego" basis of health is health recharges with killing the enemy, extra health boos for "overkill" like gibbing and close combat kills. And have a few "on-tap" ego boots like beer or something like that.

I was going to say something supposedly funny, about a game killing my family or something. But then I thought of what's the probably the absolute biggest turnoff for me.

Time limits. Seriously, I hate these things. They're a stupid way to create a sense of urgency. I like to take my time, soak in the environment, do whateverthehell I want, and if you put a timer on the top, I won't be able to do that. I was really interested in Dead Rising 2, but I simply can't bring myself to buying it because I hate the idea of a constant time limit so much.

A honorable mention to escort quests by the way.

The cardinal sin of gaming? Being boring.
This. This all day.

It doesn't matter what a game does. As long as it's fun, it's forgivable. A boring game, though? No, just no.

Of course, you have to remember that different people find different things fun. Personally, I love 4x games, like GalCiv and Total War, other people think they're like watching paint dry.
