What is wrong with The Jersey Shore?

Take note, America. Your TV shows are your first ambassadors to other countries. This is why so many people around the world have the opinions about the US that they do. I think this reputation is mostly undeserved, by the way, but shows like Jersey Shore are not going to help.

That pretty well sums it up. That, put into an hour, and there are eight other people like this. I've never facepalmed so hard while watching a roast. I'm pretty sure I was more embarrassed than he was. I'm also pretty sure orange skin and spiky hair just generally piss me off.

Oh and Snookey doesn't get hit every episode anymore.

For starters all the guys on the show look like this:

It puts douchebags on a pedestal rather than shoving them into a darkened corner.

I'm assuming it leads to melanoma in other people's attempts to make themselves as orange as the monkeys in the show.

Probably raising the price of hair gel across the planet, those hairgel trees aren't infinite y'know!

And finally, and perhaps most importantly, it is the most notable pop culture thing to come out of jersey. To the rest of the world, that entire state is defined by a bunch of musclebound, big titted, orange people. That is not the kind of image you want your state to be associated with.

What about Bon Jovi, or were we trying to forget him lol

The world would benefit from the people (and MTV for that matter) in that show never being born at all. They represent the downfall of American culture, or lack thereof. The people who watch it should be ashamed of themselves for putting them into the spotlight.

Just... watch this, for it truly is prophetic. And if you don't think it's relevant, watch it anyway.

I happen to like Jersey Shore because I think idiots are funny, but in case of emergency I have a prepared rant to answer with.

Jersey Shore is a television show featuring several adults who supposedly personify the "guido" culture. The word guido was originally used half as a slur and half as a term to describe working class Italian-Americans. The term is very rarely used in its original context anymore and now describes the kind of people Jersey Shore follows, i.e. self-absorbed loud-mouths concerned only with self-indulgence and fake tans (and I assure you, that is all they are after). I won't go on to insult their IQ or some other arbitrary statistic, but I will tell you that they lack any form of common sense. It's like peering into a black pit of idiocy with no bottom. Over the course of three seasons, I've seen them start fights in clubs, get drunk to the point of arrest, counsel one of the cast members who had a "drinking problem" that lasted all of three days, and sleep with anyone in the immediate vicinity. They don't embody any type of culture anyone in the USA should want to identify with; they embody Hedonistic tendencies we should want to shy away from.

I've never seen it, but since I've seen The Apprentice and Survivor and The Real World I think I've seen about all I need to see of reality TV to safely say it's all crap. They just pretend it's not scripted even though the writers are credited at the end of the show. I have, however, seen the roast of Donald dipshit Trump (that was very Id, but I couldn't resist), during which "The Situation" made an appearance, and had the rare treat of discovering that every horrible thing people have said about a particular person is absolutely true.

But OK, fine, if that's not enough, here's your list.

Worship of insipidity = bad.
Pandering to vapid stereotypes = bad.
Telling a national audience that you like men who abuse steroids and Human Growth Hormone, which makes your genitals shrink, by the way = bad.
Wearing a giant medallion = bad.
Telling young men that they should cease being men and start applying spray-on tan = bad.
While we're at it, spray-on tan and all who wear it = bad.
Asking this question when the show's been on for 2 years = bad.
Rewarding bad behavior by individuals who can afford birth control and visits to the doc to clear up STDs = bad.
Saying, hey, they're getting paid = bad, and very very stupid.

That about sums it up!

A few times in that clip you can hear people go "Aww," you almost expect them to follow it up with something along the lines of "Isn't that slow boy special?"

Everything. Not just that show, but most stuff on MTV in general. It's kind of scary that the most popular show for teenagers are about girls who were stupid and got knocked up at sixteen, or a bunch of italian dipshits yelling and screwing eachother in a house.

I have the luxury of never watching it but from what I understand is that it,s about a group of douches from New York going to New Jersey to just party and be douches.
(the only thing related I watched is the south park episode "A Jersey Thing" and a college humor spoof that made the Jersey Shore in a FF like RPG.

It's dumb as hell, panders to the lowest common demographic of people. All the guys on the show are idiots, all the girls on the show are empty and vaccuous T&A displays and rather than try to insult such a mindset, it seems to be actually glorifying it.

Personally, I've only ever seen a trailer for one episode here in Australia but that one trailer was all I needed to see.

Well, it's saying that being genuinely stupid is socially acceptable. So, if the show is scripted it raises the question of how it got approved. There is something in people that gets them off on other people's conflicts, but come on.

And then they have the right mind to blame games when something bad happens...
