Hmm. I discovered a lot of new music this year, but not a lot of those bands made new albums. This is still really hard to decide...If we go by what I listened to the most, it would definitely be Issues' debut album, Issues. But the new album I enjoyed the most I guess would be The Amanuensis by Monuments.

Album of the year?

Easy, Septic Flesh's 'Titan'.

Here's a playlist for the folk who are curious:

Weezer's "Everything Will be Alright In the End." Holy hell, I didn't think they would ever have another decent album, let alone one this good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzIO2t1-d4g

Behemoth's "The Satanist", Panopticon's "Road to the North" or Ne Obliviscaris' "Citadel".
Holy crap, those are not only some of the best metal albums of the last few years, but they're some of the best of the last decade, PERIOD.

Wow. Pleased to see two people already mentioning Ne Obliviscaris- Citadel.

I also really enjoyed Insomnium's Shadows of the Dying Sun. There are other good albums this year but those two stood out for me as being worth of AOTY

I would have to second Behemoth's The Satanist, but I'd say a close second would be Triptykon's Melana Chasmata.

Male Adele's In The Lonely Hour.

Sam Smith is pouring out all of his Taylor Swift angsty feelings in this debut album, on totally non creepy tracks like Stay With Me, Like I Can and Reminds Me Of You. He seems completely unwilling to write about fucking happy things and I love him for it.

10/10 will listen to on repeat for the next few months or at least until I fall into a deep depression.

HMs:
Hozier's Hozier
Speaking of the devil, Taylor Swift's 1989
Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence
Betty Who's Take Me When You Go

so little indie cred, the horror.

I only got around to listening to that the other day. Was definitely impressed by what I heard! Buying on Bandcamp next payday.

I actually had the pleasure of seeing them play live a few weeks ago and they blew me away. What is surprising about that is avante-garde and experimental genres usually do absolutely nothing for me, but Ne Obliviscaris held my interest. I listened to Citadel afterwards and now have a rather fond appreciation for it. It's not my favourite of the year, but I do enjoy it.

I don't actually know. There hasn't been a whole album this year that's 'done it' for me. Lot of great music, but no album I can point to and go "That! That was fucking awesome."

Must be Mark Lanegan's Phantom Radio. Tied to a star by J Mascis is pretty awesome too and 48:13 by Kasabian. Other than those can't really think of anything.
Good bits

Not a big year for the music I listen to. Your full list of candidates:
"Abandon Ship" - Knife Party
"The Black Market" - Rise Against
"Isolate and Medicate" - Seether

And the winner is *drumroll*
Knife Party with "Abandon Ship" purely by virtue of not sucking as hard as the other candidates.

Album of the year has to be Swans' To Be Kind [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jSdTBGhDSg] for me and having spent a fair bit of time on /mu/ lately it's kind of refreshingly relieving contrast in a way that I'm the only one to mention it so far. I wouldn't quite call it a perfect 10 but it seems a bit more focused with less of a tendency to drag than The Seer and rivals Soundtracks for the Blind as my favourite from the band in general. Believe the hype. Also, some other favourites that I can't be arsed to list in any particular order:

Aphex Twin - Syro [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUAJ8KLGqis]
Cynic - Kindly Bent to Free Us [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTmsaoSebYo]

Nice.

Similarly, my album of the year is also from Devin Townsend: The double album, Z2: Dark Matters and Sky Blue.

Indeeeeeeed.

Dunno. I don't buy music that much cause I can't hear my music on the radio or can't talk to anyone about my music for fear of retaliation.

Closest thing would probably be starbombs album.
