What is your 'deepest' gaming moment?

Katawa Shoujo in its entirety. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but I've never been so emotionally affected by a game before, and I probably never will be again. It truly was an amazing experience.

This very same, I cried myself as I collapsed in the airport, chasing the person I loved. I screamed at my computer; "GET UP! Get up RIGHT NOW!"

..Okay, I was rather sleepy during that stage, so I might've been slightly more confused about reality and games..

But still. Emotional investment is something I rarely have, I had it a lot during Katawa Shoujo.

I've never cried at any movie I've ever seen. I've watched hundreds, if not thousands of movies in my life. Despite that, Katawa Shoujo made me weep like a baby. That's all anyone needs to know about whether the game is worth playing or not!

The first Mass Effect gave me a double whammy because,

I screwed up and got my Wrex killed, and then had to choose whether I let Kaiden or Ashley die.

MGS3 when you have too

pull the trigger on The Boss.

Even when I was younger and didn't really appreciate story and characters, that one hurt.

Those are the three most potent ones off the top of my head for sheer gut wrenching ability.




And mentions have to go out to the Legend of Zelda series, for having dozens of little moments like that throughout the series.
]And to Splinter Cell: Conviction for the moment when Sam learns that Lambert screwed him over.

as that happened I was literally "aww shit, what the fuck is wrong with you!"

And Heavy Rain. In all the trials except 1 and 2 I roleplayed as Ethan. For those that know what happens in the Lizard trial I just stood there thinking about it and I just couldn't do it. Same for the Shark. I don't mind blasting through a room full of Nazis in CoD but in the Shark trial my conscience acted up so I couldn't do it.

I'm playing it at the moment, and only just got up to the first choice moment. I spent several minutes agonising over that. I hope it doesn't get any worse. D:

Fallout 3. Turnpenny tower.

I managed to get the residents of Turnpenny tower to allow the ghouls to enter and live with them. I thought I had done a great thing and was living up to my title as 'Hero of the Wasteland'. But when I returned and found out that the ghouls had killed all the humans and dumped their corpses in the basement I was both furious and depressed. I felt betrayed and knowing that the ghouls had murdered some of the nicer friendly human residents of Turnpenny tower I opened fire and killed every single ghoul. Turnpenny tower was left empty and unused.

Whilst walking around the wasteland reflecting upon the events that had previously taken place I suddenly realised that it was all my fault. If I had not interfered, both ghouls and humans would still be alive. I was naive to think that I could force two so very different groups of people together without something backfiring. It really was all my fault.

I got quite sucked into that particular side quest

In Planescape: Torment, when I learned what the Shadows really are.

They are the vengeful spirits of those who died in your stead to balance death's books for every time you shrugged death off. Did you kill yourself for a bored noble's amusement and some copper? Well, someone, somewhere died in your place.

And they will stalk you, shadow you, attempt to strike you down, and when they do, well, that just means another life will be lost and reformed into a new Shadow.

Suffice to say, this game did some good points about why immortality can suck. And blow. At the same time.

The entirety of Journey. No, it didn't make me go "oh shit" and move around while I played or whatever. There are plenty of games that do that, but I wouldn't consider them 'deep' moments.

Journey gripped me, pulled me in and didn't let go. In some ways, it still hasn't.

The end of the journey was where it got "really real." And, to me, it wasn't just the game that got real. Everything did.

For me? It was the End of the World part of Final Fantasy VI (or 3), when Kefka went (even more) batshit crazy.

Back then, with 16bit graphics and terrible sound quality, it was quite the accomplishment to pull you into a game as well as Final Fantasy did.

The Opera scene wasn't too shabby either, or Setzer's backstory (I was a kid at the time, give me a break!).

Pretty much every moment in this game fits the criteria but one particular part affected me the most. The scene where you wake up in Tenebaum's haven and see the little sisters. That, was beautiful. I told myself nothing would stop me, and nothing did!

Oh god. I felt bad for the choice I made, even though I chose the morally good choice, the one Adams wanted me to choose.

I chose the civilians. Having to wait for them to finish before I could move on, watching him die...

And it gets worse? I'm not even sure I want to keep playing anymore. D:

Revelations gave no opportunity to do anything assassin-y as Altair, but there was that...not deep, but damn cool.

Mine was a tabletop gaming moment when both my characters best friends were murdered.
They had been through so much together and I got pissed, I basically channelled my halfling rogues anger.
The murderer was a evil wizard who's plans we were standing in the way of.
So while fighting the wizard I ended up sacrificing my self by blowing both of us up and saving the rest of the party and the city he was trying to take over, so for my last words I screamed.
"Now die and regret all the evil deeds you have done and remember the faces of the two you murderer because that was your downfall!"

He died, I died but we screamed, cheered and hugged.
Now that was some deep stuff and for awhile, me and my character merged.

Deep moments? uh mainly from Journey as I spent maybe the last 3 levels with the same person pushing through sand and snow then completing the final one and standing triumphant, never truly knowing who he/she was and yet investing time and effort to make sure that we stayed together throughout it all, always keeping in sight and sound of each other.

Also the ending lines from Ezio in AC; Revelations was pretty cool, Deep but also just cool. Cannot wait till AC3.

Hmmm, probably the entirety of Bioshock. Rapture sits on the sea bed and that is VERY deep underwater.

I was really sucked into Metal Gear Solid 2 when Raiden received Olga's HF blade. It was one of those, "alright, time to fuck shit up" moments.

I found the HF Blade awkward, cos Snake would always kill them before I got there, the kill stealing bastard.

OT: Putting on my big boy pants and fighting two Pyramid Heads in Silent Hill 2. It's time for James to man up!

For me it has to be Force Unleashed or Prince of Persia.
Those games draw me in like crazy and I'm jumping around my room using my jedi powers or just being a really awesome prince jumping around killing people with some awesome moves never seen before.
