The most immersive moment I had in gaming was answering to NPC's questions and comments in Half Life 2.
The most emotional moment I had in gaming was the ending of Metal Gear Solid 3. The only game that has made me cry.
Katawa Shoujo in its entirety. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but I've never been so emotionally affected by a game before, and I probably never will be again. It truly was an amazing experience.
There has only been two occasions I can remember that when after I finished something I just sat silent in my seat for like 5 minutes thinking, and taking in the emotions experienced. The first is the ending to Cowboy Bebop, and the other is the end of Hanako's story in Katawa Shoujo.
Edit: ... And the ending to MGS3, just remembered.
Yeh, I'm gonna go ahead and agree with everyone who said that part from Spec Ops: The Line. From various bits and pieces I read on the internet, I knew that there was something in the game that was supposed to stop you in your tracks and make you really think about what you do in games, but I had no idea what to expect. On my first playthrough I got to that bit and almost couldn't continue playing for a long time after the cutscene. The whole game from that point on had an entirely different feel, and I almost felt bad for feeling compelled to continue playing just to see how things turned out. By the time I got to the ending I didn't feel much better.
3´rd mission in Homeworld. after you had a look around you were committed to see the game through the end. for it was not a simple mission now. it was survival of everything you know
The bird-like Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus. Climbing over it's wings while it tries to shake you off while kick-ass music plays was a great moment.
And the Suicide Run in Mass Effect 2 made me unironically say Fuck Yeah at certain points.
One time when I was playing fallout 3 I found a distress call radio signal. I listened to it and found out it was from a guy who was held up in a drainage pipe with his family and that i was badly ill. So I decided to look for them so I could help them like. Eventually, I found the drainage pipe and inside it I found the skeletons of three people. Next to them I saw a ham radio that was playing on a loop. I felt saddened by the fact that they had probably been dead for a long time.To prevent other's from doing the same as I did I turned off the radio and continued on my journey.
- dont flame me for this but... the ending of mass effect 3. while poorly done, i clutched my head in a bout of utter confusion of the extrapolation of the decision to come, took me a good half hour to make a choice... i almost didn't want to.
- the start of dead island, when you just wake up up until you exit the hotel building.
For me it would be the end of MGS3. You sit there watching the scene after you ruthlessly beat your mentor, your mother figure, and in a way your lover. After telling her story to you, she hands you the patriot and you stand there pointing it at her. Only to realize that you actually have to pull the trigger. I sat there for minutes because i grew to have nothing but respect for the boss. Then the whole segment after that bravo Kojima bravo.
Russia invaded USA and during that mission when your fighting them in that neighborhood and inside one of the houses you find a stupid russian soldier in the fridge looking for something to eat, yeah I emptied my shotgun into the back of his head.
Russia launching the EMP and your left dodging falling helicopters.
Even when I was younger and didn't really appreciate story and characters, that one hurt.
...
Edit. You know what screw it, while all the one's I listed are awesome, Metal Gear Solid 3 tops the lot.
I just registered an account here to comment on this post! I agree, my friend. I started gaming on a dedicated Pong console about 33 years ago, and the moment you just mentioned tops my list of jaw dropping moments in ANY fictional media EVER. It was a little bit different for me though,
because I relished shooting her. Every time she popped up throughout the game, I got a sick feeling in my stomach, cause she was about to screw me one way or the other. Whether she was setting me up for a long fight against one of her minions, or taking my weapons and leaving me for dead, I knew I was going to be doing some savegame reloading for a while. So I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger, and laughed in glee. I finally had my revenge! And then the big endgame exposition came. I never suspected it. I sat in front of the TV for 30 minutes, stunned. The entire game I'd been waiting to blow her away, and after I did it, I discovered I had just killed a selfless hero, who sacrificied all, for the greater good. And I had enjoyed it. Taught me a real life lesson... NEVER take things at face value.
The long walk in the corridor at the end of silent hill 2 - the game totally got me long before, but that particular moment was the first time i played a scene with such an intense emotional impact in a game. I felt so sorry for these two poor lovers.
Also playing Metro 2033 on Ranger Mode Hardcore was basically one long deep moment and Spec Ops was the last game that gave me several of these moments.
Top 5 right here.
5. Kingdom Hearts 2, when you enter the field of 1000 heartless.
4. The End Of Okami.
3. Metal Gear Solid , the Boss fight.
2. Spec Ops The Line. Just that entire game.
1. The End of Professor Layton and the Unwound future. Only game to ever make me tear up.

When your character looks up at the leaving of the Pillar of Autumn and you realize, "Damn, I'm alone." Then you just kill guys till you die. It just hit me.
2: Killing the mothership for the first time in FTL. Since you can't reload an old save you end up getting so invested that it actually feels like all or nothing.
This is to say that moment where stuff gets real. And I mean really real. Far beyond srs business. That feeling where you go 'HELL NO' or 'FUCK YES' at the screen and start seriously playing like the chips are down and you are literally in that characters shoes, running down hallways or unraveling mysteries etcetc.
What is your 'deepest' moment of gaming?
Mine personally came when I was younger, playing time crisis 2. I would literally 'lean' away from the screen when I made my character hide to reload.
Dark Souls, my build is a Velka's Rapier, full Black Cleric set, and the Bloodshield. I have 0 poise so one attack from a great sword staggers me. It was a 3v1 in Darkroot Garden. All 3 of the enemies wielding Black Knight Great Axes that would stagger/kill me in 1 hit. I charge the Sun Bro in the group of 3 and dodge his swing and turn around for a 1.2K damage backstab killing him instantly. The next guy, a normal white phantom clad in full Smough's rushes at me brandishing his axe ready to swing. I dodge off to the side with a quick leap and start my barage of rapier strikes (12 strikes in a row, all for roughly 500 damage) and he dies in the 4th strike. The host see both of his phantoms dying to 1 man, standing with a rapier, untouched. He pulls out a Lightning Uchikatana +5 and runs straight at me. As he swings I switch to my Parrying Dagger and force his blade away. And in the moment, that one repose, I had won a 3v1.
