I also love the Burnout series. I loved it right from the first one, which I had on Gamecube. Because of that I never got Burnout 3.
Wow! I was going to say that it is my favourite racer of all time. Burnout 3 was the pinnacle of Burnout before the disgrace that is Revenge with its bad takedown engine and dumbing down of required driving skill. Part 3 took all the great features and pulled it into one place while still requiring a high level of skill to succeed online.

Gran Turismo 4, Midnight Club 2/3, and Need for Speed Underground 1/2, as well as Most Wanted. Also, the burnout series, specifically Burnout 3: Takedown. The best one. Those seven will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will never give them away.

Mario Kart Double Dash. All of the crazy tracks and fun items of the other games, but with the added strategy of having two characters per kart. Also, Dino Dino Jungle is an awesome track.
This, except I fucking lost my save file due to a corrupt memory card so I lost everything on the game.

People liked Burnout Revenge? Well, that's... different.

Anyway, I'm gona go with Wipeout. I fucking love all the Wipeout series. Burnout 3 was also great, Paradise was also pretty good, from what little I played.

I guess Blur was a pretty good racer. Though I never got to play it myself.

WipEout is really, really good. It's probably my favorite racer, a title previously held by Burnout. The WipEout HD bundle is on the PS Store for not-too-much-money, if I recall correctly. There's a lot to do in it, too.

I would put it in this order, from most liked:
- Forza series - don't play anymore though, since my Xbox wheel is broke :-(
- Gran Turismo series
- Racedriver GRID

Ones that I have enjoyed, but I don't really play anymore because they just don't interest me or the gameplay/style varied too much
- NFS series: played until Pro Street, favorite was Carbon though. Never played again.
- Midnight Club: Got a little tired of it, still great game though
- Dirt: I hope another actual "rally" sim comes out sometime soon, like Colin McRae games originally were, getting tired of the truck jumping and other crap you have to do in these games now. Plus, the menus are so epilepsy inducing whack-slam-shake-bright color-flash-explosion-boom in the face it's like fuck I just want to pick the next race man...probably just too old or something. And asking me to input online pass for DLC everytime I turn on the f'ing console gets old too.

I'd like to get F1 2012, played F1 2010 for quite a while but held of on F1 2011 because of the reported bugginess/framerate issues on PS3, anyone know if this has been fixed? Maybe I should just get F1 2012

NASCAR Rumble.

Not my favorite favorite, but we've been playing it a lot lately and it's as much fun as I remembered it being. Essentially the Super Smash Brothers of racing.

Also DIRT was cool because it has that unlimited randomly generated/just really fucking gargantuan map that you could drive in foerever.

Finally, I know I can't be ninja'd in this topic. Hell, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'd be super happy.

Looney Toons Space Race and Re-Volt.

Best time I've ever had in racing games.

Most recently it's been Forza 3. It's the only good racing game I have on the 360.

Back on the PS2 however it's a deathmatch between Need for Speed: Underground 2, Most Wanted, and Burnout 2 and 3.

Way back on the PS1, theres Gran Turismo, Crash Team Racing, and Road Rash.

Considering Road Rash is one of the few bike based games I've ever enjoyed, I think it might have to take the top spot.

Crash Team Racing and Jak X.

CTR is a great game to play with friends and Jak X has plenty of explosions and an awesome soundtrack (and one of my favourite antagonist deaths in gaming).

Gran Turismo 5. i just can't get enough of it. i play it pretty much everyday since release. Not much just few timed laps on random track and couple practice laps on THE Ring so i don't get rusty. Recently released Twin Ring Motegi DLC sucked me in for 4 hours.
THIS! I fire up GT5 from time to time, and just hop on to a track day lobby and blast in a few laps in whatever takes my fancy that day. I'm especially feeling the love for Spa-Francorchamps at the moment for some reason...

Sorry for the consecutive post, but I'm too damn melted to feck about with edits...

F1 2012 looks pretty good, but I am going to wait until it's released and the fan feedback starts to paint a clearer picture. F1 2011 was much better after the patch (although not without some pretty big flaws) but some of the display issues never went away for some apparently - something to do with certain types of TV or somesuch. Codies are bigging it up obviously, and it does look like the business but once bitten, twice shy and all that. If the AI and penalty/safety car system are still broken, then I'm not going near it. Probably. Maybe. But I do love F1...dammit!

Need For Speed: Underground pops to mind. Or was it NFSU2? Can`t even remember, it was a long time ago... but damn, those drag races were fun.
I really loved Burnout Paradise, as well. Lots and lots and lots of fun.
And of course i enjoyed Flatout 3 as well, a cool, fun game.

F-Zero GX: It has some of the most badass tracks I've ever seen in a racing game, and its a.i. is pretty ruthless.

Mario Kart 64: Because it doesn't matter if you win or lose the race, only how many times you nail your friends with shells.

Thanks for input, hope I don't go too far off-topic. Might wait for a bit more fan feedback in that case, because I love F1 as well and don't want to go for the wrong one just yet. One of my friends said I should just go for F1 Championship Edition instead, I think I only tried that once in a demo with a controller, seemed nice graphics and effects but don't know about the driving much. I Love F1 as well, just hope one of them is the solid, tight, game I'm looking for with all the tracks and car setup, moreso than graphics and presentation, can play GT5 for that, at least on PS3.

Diddy Kong Racing because of the mixture of kart racing and Rare's love of compulsive collectible searches.

If I must choose a game with real cars, then Burnout entirely for the mode where you cause massive pileups.

If I must choose a game where I actually race in the real cars, then Cruising World for that spiffy theme song.

I haven't played many racing games this generation. The only ones I can recall playing are Forza Motorsport 2, Mario Kart Wii, Burnout Paradise, and Sega and Sonic All-Stars Racing. I didn't spend that much time on these ones either.

I think the platform that hosted many of my favorites and when I was most into racing games was on the N64. Games such as:
Mario Kart 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Wave Race
San Fransisco Rush
Beetle Adventure Racing
1080 Snowboarding

I spent countless hours on these games.

Mario Kart 64 probably takes the cake. I even bought the soundtrack to play in my car. Luckily it didn't inspire me to throw banana peels out the window and launch turtle shells at other cars.
I spent hours upon hours shaving off split seconds in time trial mode. I memorized every track and even the little glitches where you can get over walls and such to shave off seconds.
Did you ever play Snowboard Kids? My girlfriend introduced it to me and it's an absolute blast. 1080 meets mario kart.

Of all of those, Diddy Kong is my favourite- best controls, more track variety than MK64, and above all bots in battle mode. I was crushed to find MK64 had no bots in battle mode. Actually I felt most of MK64 overall failed to live up to SMK on the Snes.

EDIT: Good to see Diddy Kong Racing in this thread is AT LAST getting some recognition!

Other racers that were really up there for me were Re-Volt, and Mashed.
