I think it's simply too early to call. The latter half of the year is heavily loaded with promising titles. The one I have most enjoyed this year, however, would be Homefront: The Revolution.

If it had to be from this year, Dark Souls 3. Onto to NG4+ so I spent a lot of time on it. Also, are they getting easier? Because I couldn't do that in the previous ones.

The game I enjoyed most has to be ESO. I only started it this year. I even have the Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 DLC sitting on my computer, waiting to be played but I'm always going back to ESO. Its that much fun.

Sorry, very juvenile of me. I don't have one yet. Am hoping Deus Ex may hit the mark, but really...am not holding out much for that with Squeenix at the helm. I only recently realised that Inside and We Happy Few are not planned for PS4, so that has pissed in some early morning cornflakes, but it's probably for the best I guess.
If I had to pick or watch a loved one die, I'd probably go for Oxenfree. But it isn't really 'gamey' enough for most, one would be led to imagine. It's good enough for now.

Probably DSIII. I've only actually played two games from 2016, the other being Overwatch, and while I think they're both pretty damn good, I like Dark Souls more. I would explain why, but since it's like comparing cream crackers and gateau, I'll not bother.

Well, so far, this year has been really good for games that I "liked" but not-so-much for games that I "loved"
The last couple of years had sort of the opposite problem, where there were 1-2 games that I loved, but for the most part, I wasn't that impressed by most of them.

For example, last year had Undertale, and the year before had Freedom Planet, both games that I'll remember and replay for quite some time. But at the same time, I'd be hard pressed to point out any AAA games that I really got into (GTA V/MGS 5/Witcher 3 pretty much just cemented that I'm not going to play any more giant open world stuff for a good long time). I still need to play Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, though.

Stuff that I liked from this year:
Overwatch - Probably my favorite so far. Fun and colorful with a lot of gameplay variety, thanks to the wide array of characters (needs more maps/modes, though)
DOOM - Rip and tare! ...and also tedious getting lost in the map and/or feeling OCD about picking up stupid collectibles
Pony Island - It has both ponies and islands!
Super Hot Super Hot Super Hot - The most innovative shooter I've played in years!
All of the various VR titles that swarmed into my Steam account - Some are pretty good, and they've definitely made this year be an interesting one, but no GOTY material here.
Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight - Great Metroidvania
Hyper Light Drifter - Absolutely gorgeous game, and decent-ish gameplay.

I don't think I've played any games that released this year. The best game I played for the first time this year (not counting the demo) is Dragon Age 2. I doubt anything will surpass it.
Is that giving Dragon Age 2 high praise or are you one of the "DA2 was cancer" crowd and you're expressing disgust with the latest releases?

OT: Elite: Dangerous. The only game I've bought the year it was released since... Mass Effect 3? It's been so long I cannot remember the time before that.

No! Wait! The Dankest Dungeon! Er. The DARKest Dungeon! Fantastic! I guess those are my GOTY contenders since everything else I own is at least 2 years old.

Overwatch by default, as I don't buy new games. I think Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds were the most fun but they're from the late 80s so...
Squad will replace it when they add transport choppers if you can loop them.

That's me praising the game. I've actually played a lot of great games this year, just none of them have released this year.

Mass Effect 2.

I really haven't bought too many games this year, but it's the one I've been enjoying the most.

Probably gonna go with Dark Souls 3 (Even though I really should get over my extreme ADHD and actually finish the blasted thing)

Games that I've played this year? Xenoblade Chronicles (though that's a game I started in 2015).

Games that were released this year? Um...well, I did play Nova Covert Ops and the 3DS re-release of Super Metroid, so, um, yay?

If I'm right in thinking Until Dawn came out last year, then it will be Overwatch by default. Which is tragic since it is just TF2 without the spies and the hats...

I have some hope for Mirrors Edge when I get round to it though, so long as EA haven't properly ruined it.

DOOM.

I got that, Uncharted 4 and Mirror's Edge all in the same relative time frame and it's the one I come back to the most.
Mirror's Edge is the same "almost great" that the original was but then again, maybe Uncharted 4 and Doom set the bar too high for me and Uncharted 4 is so damn good but it doesn't have the replay value of Doom for me.

I haven't spent 245? on Clash Royale for nothing. So that's gotta be my goty.

JK! who the fuck even...

I haven't played any 2016 releases. And thus my "game of the year I just happened to play for the first time this year" is frickin' BioShock 2, I guess. I got no strong opinion on the matter anyway.

Pony Island for "Game of The Year 2016"!!
You took the words right out of my mouth!

Other than that, Star Fox Zero almost came close, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue might top it if I have a PS4 by then, and there were other 2016 games I bought already and haven't played yet...

I've been working on my backlog (stretches back to 2013) and so I haven't really had the time to try out any new games. Based on the demo I can say it will most likely be Monster Hunter generations, mainly because that's the only game I am certain to play.

Without a doubt, my GOTY (so far) is DOOM.

It hits all the right notes. It's fast. It's fun. It's pretty. It runs well. It controls well. It has a startlingly high degree of replayability. It's serious where it counts and purposefully silly where it doesn't. It's self aware of the absurdity of its subject matter without being too over-the-top or blatant about it. It pays homage to its roots while simultaneously expounding, expanding, and self-deprecating the series' lore. It weaves a surprisingly good narrative but doesn't force the player to pay attention to any of it.

And dat soundtrack. Mein gods...

And that's just the campaign. The multiplayer and SnapMap are a delicious gravy to top off a brilliant meal.

Honestly, I'd had high hopes going into the game, but it still managed to blow me away. I haven't had this much pure cathartic fun with a game in quite some time.

Honorable mention goes to Battleborn. It makes for a rather nice distraction when I feel like playing something fast and structured, and feel like taking a break from DOOM.

I'm still waiting for No Man's Sky, Titanfall 2, and Infinite Warfare before I settle on my actual game-of-the-year, but DOOM's set a pretty high bar.

Awwwww! Not one of you said Enter the Gungeon. Now I just feel like a loner..... like I always do. Unless were not talking just about games that were released this year.

Anyway, if you love rogue-like games, then maybe you will enjoy Enter the Gungeon as much as me. I actually prefer it more than Rebirth/Afterbirth.

While not perfect, I find it more skill-based, it has all direction aiming with the mouse, it runs at a smooth 60 frames and looks great, lots of gun types and items, many secrets to find, can be very challenging, interesting soundtrack, so you know, everything a great game needs. Well besides a special moment. I haven't uncovered everything yet so it could get more interesting.

I've only gotten Doom, Dark Souls 3, Overwatch, Salt & Sanctuary and Enter the Gungeon this year so far. Unless I'm misremembering something.

So uhm, Doom I guess.

Oh and Paragon, but I only just started playing that, can't really say much on it.
