...when you first start playing a game that is centered on exploration? Referring to sandbox RPGS, similar to Fallout 3 and Oblivion, where the first thing most people think when they are exposed to the world is....."Wow, that looks big."

Myself, I almost giggle like a schoolgirl. I'll be honest, I don't remember much of how I acted in Oblivion, all I remember is getting out into the world, finding a road, and following it to an Inn. The months that followed were pure bliss.

Fallout 3 was similar. When I first exited the Vault, I spent an hour or two just in that little town area immediately outside, at the school. Just looking around, checking things out.

When I first played Grand Theft Auto IV(I wasn't always a hater of it, I attended a midnight release for it), the first thing I did was drive around listening to the radio stations, watched some of the TV and went bowling. Literally. That's all I did.

When I played Saints Row 2, I did similar to GTA IV, I drove around with radio stations on, and went to see which cars I could get.

When I start playing an "exploration game", I tend to relax, knowing that I have a ton of fun waiting for me.

Do you do the same, or are you more of a "Holy Crap, so much to do!" person who gets overwhelmed by so many paths?

"Kill all suns-a-bitches"

In my first playthorugh I must kill everything I can.

Actually doing quests and stuff will go in the second playthrough.

I'm one of those "Relaxing, because there's lots of fun to do" person. That's probably why I prefer Saint's Row 2 over GTA4. :)

I usually focus on completing all of my secondary objectives and doing lots of exploring before focusing on the primary goal.

It's usually dependant on the game for me, for sandbox games like GTA where it's usually story driven I'll do a few missions to open up the island/unlock the better toys, but with games like Fallout I tend to aimlessly wander.

For some reason, I always have to rush through the main storyline in games like Fallout 3. If I sit around doing side quests, I feel as if I am just trying to waste time to pad out the game. Then it's usually the second playthrough where I take my time and relax.

I usually make my way to the nearest populated settlement and (if the game allows it) steal EVERYTHING.

I'll start one of the early quests, but if there's ANYTHING remotely interesting (I especially loved stumbling on Vaults in Fo3, big "WTF?!" moment when I accidentally started Tranquility Lane) I get sidetracked and end up ignoring my original mission until my exploration randomly brings me to where I need to be.

I couldn't have a mindset after playing Just Cause 2, as my mind = blown.

But in all seriousness, I usually amble around, trying to stumble into wacky hijinx.

There IS something therapeutic about ending the lives of everyone you run into in a sandbox game. I've shot myself in the foot doing it before though, because I sometimes kill someone who is important for a quest, lol.

I love exploration games. I tend to try and find me a little hidey-hole, then fill it with other people's stuff.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. I picked the lock on a house that nobody ever went in to, claimed it as my own, then proceeded to decorate the entire place in Dwemer artifacts. Tried to do pretty much the same effect in Oblivion, but psychic guards became a pain.

Fallout 3 is still my fav exploration game. No topping it.
lol, I did this same exact thing in one of my houses in Oblivion. Except I just took EVERYTHING. Eventually I went down to the basement in one of the houses and tried to drop as many items as I could in it. It almost killed my 360. I literally had a sea of items in the basement before the Auto-Dump kicked in.

Anyone who shares my opinions is awesome, lol.

Seriously, Spider-man 2 was amazing. I still haven't devoted the time to 3 yet.

And Oblivion....I got to the point of finding an online map and systematically visiting each location, just to see if there was anything different between some of the caves. I didn't quite get through it all though, something else took my attention at that point. I don't remember what game it was though.

Well for all those games except for gta4, I had done the same things, and I also stole a bunch of stuff with out realizing it in Oblivion first time I played.

I usually go with the Bart Simpson cackle of mischief, as I will inevitably try and blow something up, whether or not I actually can. Once I actually get a quest, I get into character.

I'm more of a 'holy crap!' kind of gamer. When presented with a large open world, I'd have to concentrate on a partcular area and disregard the outside world for a bit. For example, I focused on doing only Megaton-related quests and exploration for a while in Fallout 3.

My first step out into Oblivion?
"Whoa, it's so big and pretty! Awesome."

My first step out into Fallout3?
"Oh....it's..gray.....and......big......when's the next Elder Scrolls coming out?"

Really, it's all about delivery. Oblivion made the very game itself feel alive. So I really got into it. One quest always led to another, and I always had something to do.
Fallout just makes everything a freakin chore. I only just got into the god damned oasis and it's taking every bit o' will power I have not to freakin murder every one in sight because of how god damed tedious it was to freakin get there!
But all in all, I like it, alot. It gives and epic feel. The best game I've seen this in is Shadow of the Colossus. Everything had a feel of mystery to it.

Fallout is awesome.
My mindset is:
Don't worry, because in doing some quests you will trip over more quests, until most are done and you are a god of the wastes.

I take each situation as I can, my objective is to enact my will upon the land and thus I take what measures are necessary to make myself known to the denizens of its world. I seek to gain all I can and leave nothing unharvested. A world freshly seeded with content provides a perfect glut of rescorces for me to steal and squander. So in basic terms I go lootin.

The problem I have is that I tend to be too orderly, I try to create a clean happy world in which people can feel safe walking down to the local shops. However recently I played god of war 3 where I realised the true fun is had by causing chaos. so I started my first ever game of Mass Effect and boy oh boy am I having a whale of a time misbehaving.
