This annoyed me the first time I saw it and put me off watching the Simpsons. It's simply not true that for the most part British folk have generally bad teeth, not true at all.

When people say that British people have bad teeth it's because that is what has been spread throughout TV.

I'm from Canada, B.C. specifically, and the only stereotype I've run into so far is that we're all polite, which as stereotypes go I guess we could have worse. That said, I don't think I, or many of my friends, are overly polite. We aren't all barbarous, unshorn lunatics either, but most of us strike a good balance.
The other stereotype I've heard of B.C. is that it produces a lot of quality marijuana. Take it as a positive or negative.

I'm from Maryland, so I guess, we don't exist? We all love the ravens (very true by the way)? I'm not really sure. And I'd due a typical southern stereotype, but Pennsylvania is directly north of us an is more southern/redneck/etc.

Australian here. Often Aussies get called racist by folks from other countries. While that may be true for many of the bogans, Australia is massively multicultural, in fact we have one of the highest ethnic intermarriage rates in the world. Multiculturalism is one of the things I'm most proud of as an Aussie. Plus, it means there are restaurants for EVERY country in the world in Melbourne.

One thing I'll admit we do a lot is make jokes about Kiwis. Australia makes jokes about New Zealand the same way America makes jokes about Canada - we laugh and feel superior but we know deep down that life's probably better on their side.

New Jersey.
Apparently, most people think of tanning salons and hair spray and drinking/excessive partying when they think of Jersey. The thing is, I have never seen any of that. Even when I go to the Jersey Shore, there is still no one that fits that description. I wonder why we have that stereotype. I doubt that it is because of that show on MTV. They're from New York. (FYI, I'm from upper NJ - near New York City. Maybe the stereotypes flock near the center and middle?)

I'm from Romania and apparently everyone that is outside of this country thinks that we are gypsies which is rather insulting. There are a lot of them living here however(around 16% of the current population of 22mil+).

I guess you could categorize this as a stereotype.

Well, I'm from New York, so no embarrassing stereotypes for me. ;]

However, that's part of America, which has the stereotype of everyone being a lardass, cheeseburger scarfing warmongerer. (I'm very underweight, don't like cheeseburgers, and don't necessarily support war)

If it were true, it wouldn't be funny. The stereotyping is what makes it funny.

Miami?!
Wow, no wonder, that a giant shit hole dude.

And yes, you probably dont believe it, im mostly pokeing fun. dont take it personally. my apologies if i got carried away.

What i meant by racism is that oddly enough people you frequently use the excuse 'slavery' and other crap are not helping and only perpetuate a behavior thats only self destructive and doesnt take self responsibility to the heart. Since slavery ended 150 years ago, to say its still a lingering issue is not only silly, but actually racist because just about every demographic that suffered enslavement, usually bounced back and it no longer became an issue outside of the history books.
And its not a poor example of us not being racist, because, and hear me out now, the north....is actually FAR more racist than the south. oh they wont admit it, they'll flat out deny it, but i personally know it and experienced it. everytime ive gone farth north than kentucky, sure enough you're going to run into some hate.
they may not be more racist, but they are more open about it. and this mentallity has lead blacks to stay in the south. now granted its a bit more convoluted than that, but its the basics and i dont have the time to discuss the whole thing.

also, next time...go to Orange Beach in Alabama, way nicer and less people. Miami is a hell hole.

When I went to college at Bama my first roommate, Cornelius--yes, that was his real name--turned out to be a wannabe walk on football player from Minnesota. He was a big black jock and I was a small white nerd. I remember when his girlfriend, Jennifer, walked into our dorm room and how relieved I was that she was white: A white girlfriend indicated that my new roommate wasn't racist.

Sound odd? Like you expected me to be the racist or bothered by interratial dating? This is where it gets interesting.

Both Cornelius and Jennifer repeatedly commented on how much less racism there was compared to where they came from. They weren't the only ones either, and that goes for lots of folks I've met over the years all over--not just at college.

What doesn't occur to most people is that blacks and whites have been living together in the South since the sixteenth or seventeenth centuries. Aside from Hispanic immigrants the South hasn't gotten anywhere near the sizable waves of immigrants from all over the world that the North and west have.

This is pertinent because new bodies of immigrants often bring their own prejudices which tend to require 2 to 3 generations to blend away.

Blacks and whites apparently get along better in the South than elsewhere in the country. Like everywhere else there are some ugly racist asses who pull crap, sure, but the fact remains that we do get along better down here.

Go figure.

It was a real eyeopener when I realized that the majority of Southerners, blacks and whites, were less racist than people from other parts of the country. If others have trouble believing me or other Southerners--especially the others who may come from areas where there is serious racism still--I won't be surprised.

Like I said, I've lived here for years and I believed the stereotype, too.

Cornelius, Jennifer, and a lot of others from up north, however, they're the ones who convinced me otherwise.

Have you been to Seaside? There are usually plenty of people like that along the boardwalk at night, it's one of the reasons to go. Great place to people watch. And you don't go "to the Jersey Shore". You go "down the shore".

Also everyone lives in Northern NJ, except the occasional piney, and is that really living?

We're also supposed to be pretty rude.

Wow, my comment started a thread, I'm flattered.

Welcome to the Escapist, by the way.

OT: I'm from Washington State. I don't know if we're too stereotyped, when I'm abroad and say I'm from Washington people tend to assume the District of Columbia, and some don't seem to know that Washington is a State, or consider it of any relevance if they do.

However, those who do know assume that I'm from Seattle, and that Seattle is the capital, and that Seattle is pretty much the only city.

And Seattle is known for... hipsters? Maybe? Olympia is known for being ultra-liberal, home to the Evergreen State college.

Though, my actual home town, Spokane, might be notorious for the "Otto Zehm" fiasco and other "corrupt police" stories. We also had a mayor and a few firefighters who solicited sex from young men from City computers...
http://www.dudelol.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/robert-*****-please.jpg

It was my thread, lest we forget. As for your OT, the only stereotypes I can think of for Washington are the 90's grunge looking guys with flannel shirts and the supposed status of being the Hipster Capital of the world. Other than that, it doesn't have too much of a bad reputation.
Sure, but it was my comment on that thread that "made (The Pumpkin Witch) wonder". I mean, if you want to claim the thread that prompted my comment, then TopazFusion might as well claim the thread that prompted your... oh, there he went.

Ahh, but you created your thread because of my thread.

OT:
I'm sure there's a joke that goes around about people from New Zealand doing unsavory things to certain woolly creatures.

Either that or we all have to face off against armies of orcs on our way to work each day.
And from there, The Examiner could claim prompting his thread, and the teacher could claim prompting The Examiner, and the principal could claim prompting the teacher, and the gay kid could claim allegedly prompting the principal. So, unless either of you are the gay kid in question, he should be "***** please"-ing all of us.

But yes, for Washington, probably hipsters. Even though that's pretty much all Seattle.

I live in New York City, site of the biggest insurance fraud in history. The worst part of my state? Ignoring firefighters, veterans, anyone who helped during that day. The worst part of my state [nation], the USA - CIA conglomerate? The fact they knew a year ahead of time.

Don't rage when you read this. History repeats itself (ie: Gulf of Tonkin) so take some thought.

EDIT: latter state refers to country / borders

Aye its true but you guys are still amateurs when it comes to rioting. Here in Montreal it doesnt matter if we win or lose we are still going to riot.

I guess the obvious stereotype for Quebec is that we are all entitled violent assholes who hate everybody and drive like maniacs. Its kind of really hard to deny it with all the school protests going on and the constant mob killings.
