I have been called this many times online playing Marvel vs Capcom 2, and Modern Warfare 2. In MVC2 my was Iron Man, Charlie, and Psylocke and I get called a scrub for it. In Modern Warfare 2 I get called a scrub for using a silenced vector with slight of hand, Hard-line, and commando.

So I ask you all what makes a scrub, what did you do that made someone call you a scrub and another one what does it mean exactly?

From my understanding from playing a lot of co-operative games (WoW, Left 4 Dead, Counterstrike, etc.), to me a "scrub" is someone that needs to be carried by their teammates and doesn't actually realize that they need to be carried in order to accomplish the goal.

I think in your case it's more that you are using a tactic that the community isn't familiar with or might have a better understanding that your tactic might be fundamentally flawed.

I think we can boil this down to "not being on the same page as the online community at large."

I've always seen it as a quick way for people to say "You only beat me because you set up a certain combo/had a certain weapon equipped/sprinted/the sun was in my eyes".

Well everything you need to know about the proper meaning of scrub is here (showing full link so you know what you're getting into):

As for my personal experience: I have never been called one, nor do I use the word at all so I can't share anything new.

Scrubs are noobs/fags/assholes/anything and anyone that makes your gameplay less enjoyable by either feeding the other team, stealing your kills or ripping your face off at every encounter.

Kill stealing, Teabagging, and Camping. All FPS deadly sins, all the hallmarks of total Scrubs.

Fine with the first two. Camping however is my main tactic.

It's a mix.

Someone who uses cheap tactics is resourceful.

Someone who does that, or sucks, or tks/teabags AND whines about everything is a scrub.

Can't say i've heard that term used outside of beu's - Too me a scrub is someone that just does one thing over and over and over and over again...Eg Ken scrubs dragon punching their way to success.

I only know the term from TV Tropes, which has already been posted, and it doesn't look to me like you're being a scrub, that would be if you were telling other people to use the move as well, or something like that.

I would chalk this one up as denial on their part for not being able to stop the move, so in actual fact, they are being the Scrubs from what I can see. (trying to claim you shouldn't use a move because it's 'unfair')

I believe this will explain it all for you:

Sorry, couldn't resist. I always thought a scrub was someone who was generally cheaty and dickish. In other words, you beat these people fairly, and now they're pissed off so they called you a nasty name, just like what all mature people do.

to quote http://www.sirlin.net/articles/playing-to-win-part-1.html#comment8209963

"In reality, the "scrub" has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He's lost the game before he's chosen his character. He's lost the game even before the decision of which game is to be played has been made. His problem? He does not play to win."

Ah! Ninja'd. A scrub means someone who needs other people's resources, someone who cannot support or carry themselves and are all to happy to take or demand handouts. I'm not sure how your specific examples relate...they may just be repeating an insult they have heard in the past.

The only scrubs in my book are the people who cheat in online games. I can tolerate everyone else.

Who in the world says "scrub"?

At any rate, it's basically a noob, someone who might have been playing for a while but refuses to get any better at playing the actual game.

Umm, why? Always wanted to know why people camp.

I experienced the first one out of that list though.

The match ended something like 4 kills and 15 assists 'cos he followed me round shooting everything I was, I guess it was luck that he got most of the kills and I am sure it was unintentional but it was still annoying as all hell.

I camp because I do not enjoy running around the map like a gerbil with a machine gun. I do not find it fun when everyone just runs and jumps and shoots wildly. I like to take out my enemies from a concealed location without them even knowing I was there.

Are we talking staying in one place then moving or sitting in a dark corner with a shotgun, like some kind of psycho ... slowly rocking backward and forward, whispering "all work and no play make me a dull boy".
