What Nintendo's E3 2015 Digital Event Taught Us

Honestly, I thought it was pretty good. Nintendo went for substance of actual games and actual gameplay for games releasing within 8 months instead of empty promises of prerendered trailers or even just concept art for games that might release in the vague future. The Nintendo event was not a hype factory, and that is a good thing in my eyes. I know people declaring that square won E3 because of the FF7 remake reveal + the Neir 2 reveal. Games announced so far in advance that they might as well not have announced them. The FF7 remake reveal was a few seconds of prerendered footage, the Neir reveal was even less prerendered footage and a few pieces of concept art.

And then we have things like "The Last Guardian". They already revealed this game and canceled it. It has been in development hell for 8 years. How can people be getting excited over something like that? There is a very strong chance it is shit, and the publisher probably doesn't actually believe in the project seeing as they already decided to cancel it once. They even had to do the trailer with prerecorded footage because they were worried that the AI on the guardian was going to be shit in the middle of the conference. These are not good signs.

How can people get hyped about these sorts of things when so much of the game industry is based on promises that never get fulfilled, especially after what is considered the worst year ever in terms of buggy, broken releases of games that completely failed to live up to their prerendered/vertical slice promises? What the hell happened? Did we all just forget the last two years?

TL;DR: Nintendo's event had more substance than any other event. I don't care for empty promises so Nintendo's event seemed very strong to me compared to most of the others.

P.S. Yes Metroid and Animal Crossing were shit.

When I first finished watching the conference, I was quite disappointed. I've certainly been more OK with it as time has gone on. The thing is, it was not a great showing, but at least there were games I want to play. Nintendo's 2008 conference was far worse than this one, it had nothing substantial. This one still had stuff one could look forward to, even if there were no huge new announcements.

What I learned from the conference was that people don't pay attention when they said that they were only showing games that were coming out this year or early next.

I do wish some of the other stuff they were showing on Treehouse or on the Youtube channel were on the conference, but they'll probably have another Direct in a month or two to show them off.

That new Fatal Frame and Fast Racing Neo. Yummy.

What I learned is that Nintendo still has the most accessible archive of their event alongside doing exactly what they were planning to do and then some depending if you still love the Muppets...

Other than that, my inpatients for waiting for both Star Fox Zero and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is slowly starting to get to me... *twitch*

I don't know, how can you get hyped for the same game over and over? It's all a matter of perspective really.
