The whole Shin Megami Tensei franchise is packed to the brim with things that have the potential to bring the controversy pot to combustion; and yet, every game has just flown right under the radar in North America. It really shouldn't come as a surprise that Catherine would follow suit (albeit it's not a SMT game. Same developers though).

It's half because Atlus just isn't that popular in North America (but enough to be profitable I guess), and half because... Well... I swear, I have NEVER seen an ad for anything made by Atlus on TV or anywhere other than gaming websites.

It's not mainstream enough. See also: Witcher, Witcher 2.
Pretty much this. I mean Portal 2 got a thing for making fun of adopted people, so I've a hard time believing that the newsies care about anything that isn't a triple a title that is going to sell a billion copies.

I guess we might see something for The Witcher 2 once it hits xbox.

From what I see, those guys live under mountains when it comes to gaming.

Medal of Honor lets you play as the Taliban in multiplayer and Fox news got pissed, but every other game I think has done that.... so it seems only to be popular games.

Hell, I saw a Baptist church forum post about how evil Minecraft is! (but I'm pretty sure that whole website is a huge joint trolling operation)
I know what you're talking about, and it totally is.
please direct me to this. I need something to laugh my ass of about.

It's not mainstream enough to garner attention on that level.

It's the same reason why the media rails against Grand Theft Auto, but not the Saint's Row series (though they just might when SR3 comes out due to the increased interest and its over-the-top approach).

They only cover shit that's popular AND somehow offends. IE GTA or CoD. Catherine was kinda a niche thing despite fairly good sales.
What about RapeLay? That game was totally unknown but ended up making a bigger controversy than GTA or CoD combined, and even above Mass Effect.

OP makes a fair point. Why ISN'T Fox all up on this? Have they grown the hell up? Or is there something else at play?

We already know FOX doesn't research anything, how would they learn about Catherine

Edit: It could also be that Catherine is open about it's subject matter, while other games hide it(as in its not on the cover). What will they expose about Catherine that makes thier audience think that they are trying to covertly corrupt people?

Wait, let me get this straight:

You are dissapointed that there are no people, that have not a single clue about video games, are talking bad of video games on national TV?

What the fuck is wrong with you?!
its the fact that it will get more sales if it gets controversey. its the married with children strategy

They are pre-occupied with trying to make Bachman not seem like a nutcase. Or to make her seem like one. I forget when it comes to conservatives. They attack games more when they're bored.
No, you're confused. They're just busy nutting to Bachman. Y'know, since she doesn't look like Margaret Thatcher and therefore is every bit as smokin' hot as Ellen Page or that lovely Adam's Apple-sportin' Ann Coulter. This gives them something to nut too other than Limbaugh's and O'Reilly's thoughts on women and minorities so they don't start to suspect that they may be bisexual, which of course in their minds is the worst thing that could ever happen in the history of everything.

OP: It's Japanese, and unless I've just missed it, it hasn't been advertised on TV a whole lot. Remember, the so-called religious right don't watch Community and listen to the Pixies. They don't exactly have their collective finger on the pulse.

It's Atlus. Too low profile for them.

What there HAS been a lot of, however, is lots of Willful Ignorance, for whatever reason.

By which I mean people insisting that it's "________ with sex/tits" or "misogynist" in spite the fact that most reviewers have said the complete opposite.

In a game about a temptress leading a man astray, just what the hell WOULD those marketing doctorates use to give it a face for the public to know what it's about? I really wanna know how these whiners would have marketed Catherine.

Moreover, for a bunch of people who want new IPs and different ideas for gaming, we sure are close-minded when we call it "________ with tits" and leave it at that, aren't we?

Is it that because games are "art" now people need to be "ambassadors" of "moralistic" gaming to put on a face for the public? Or are all those people really that short-sighted that they don't know to play the fucking game (no, not just a demo, and this applies to every game) before forming your opinion?

Hahaha, I was laughing so hard when I noticed that, I thought I couldn't be the only one! Unless "gay fat amputee gangbang" is some bizarre Baptist meme or a ridiculously subversive joke, this is one of those great "I should've thought a little more before taking that picture/screenshot" moments.

Maybe it's because everyones been preoccupied with more important things. American have been watching as there politicians have a giant slap fight. Over here in Europe we're watching as Greece and Italy pull all our economies down the toilet, mind you at least its better than in the new world. It is staggering haw much denial the tea party must be in, seriously they should form a cult.

In short there are better things to be worried about.

Seriously? Nothing? Nothing from Fox News, nothing from the hardcore right-wingers, nothing from the Bible-thumping Christians?

Maybe I'm just living under a rock and this actually has happened, or maybe it's because of that whole Debt Bill thing eating up all the news time, but seriously? Come on. There HAS to be someone raging about Catherine somewhere, right?
Question one : did you even play catherine?
Question two : why do you think there should be catherine rage?
Question three: did you even play catherine?

OT: theres no catherine rage because there's nothing to rage about , i'm assuming you didn't play catherine if you think there is. There's no nipples or asses or visible penises , hell they don't even have a sex scene like dragon age and mass effect has . Vincent just wakes up in boxers next to a (obviously ) naked catherine bt we dont see anything. Did you look at the box and assumere there was nudity? Ther're are just suggestive sexual theme by implying they had sex , thats it . So before hating , play the game .

It's a small title, course not. Besides there isn't really any visable nudity or anything anyway.

Or you could admit that some of us far right Christian folk actually love the games Atlus makes. I'm sure a lot of things will make more sense after that.
No, that doesn't explain anything. The "far right Christian folk [who] actually love the games Atlus makes" are not the ones who usually start a shitstorm about other games. You're essentially lumping yourself in with the nutjobs here and pointing out you're not crazy. Nobody said you were.

OT: Please, for the love of whatever you hold Holy, don't ever attract the hate-gaze of the anti-videogame crusaders to Atlus. I need my fix of crazy every few years. If Jack "I need a hobby" Thompson and his goon squad find out about Atlus, we're totally and completely boned.

There was no controversy about the evokers in Persona 3 (or literally anything in Nocturne or DDS) so it's not too surprising they haven't picked up on this game. Although.. it does seem a more likely candidate for a fuss than their other games if only due to the ads and box art.

Still, it's Atlus. They slip under the radar.
Actually there was, but it was small.
