A game set in the Discworld universe by Terry Pratchett or the Xanth universe by Piers Anthony would be awesome in my opinion. Both are quite expansive worlds with plenty of opportunities for interesting gameplay. The satirical nature of either series would lend it's self well to a Fable like game.
This, a thousand times. Also the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, although I'd prefer it if they worked on getting the movies made first. I seriously want to see those books on screen.

green eggs and ham obviously
How about a text adventure?

What will you do?
>Eat green eggs and ham
You can't eat ye green eggs and ham!

And then you're left wondering why you can't eat ye green eggs and ham.
Until you actually do eat ye green eggs and ham, and then the roof falls down because they were weight bearing green eggs and ham.

The Pendragon books by D.J MacHale. its either 10 seperate games or one really long game, and travelling through flumes to save Cloral or Denduron would be sick.

Haven't read all these pages because I'm really tired so I don't know if these have been mentioned but the Edge Chronicles series by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, they're really interesting and despite being written for children (10+ really) they are one of my favourite series of all time. Plus pirates in flying boats, flying pirate boats , as in sails, rigging, masts, the works.
That would be a great idea! The only problem is that Chris Riddell's illustrations really brought those novels to life, and I don't know whether a game would be able to capture that art style.

The setting of American Gods, into an MMORPG. Could make for a factions-based games.
If you're into pen and paper RPG's you should check out the White Wolf game Scion. Set in a very similar contemporary world with the Gods from various pantheons fighting the Titans. Very well written and very easy to learn for beginners, plus the combat is so over-the-top and fun.

guants ghosts, no other can compare (though a game with all the teams and their gear with them would be awesome)
Fuck yeah Gaunt's Ghosts all the fucking way.

The Song of Fire and Ice series, play as uhhh, it'd be a cool universe to base a game in

I was going to say 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch' by Philip K Dick.

Then I saw these guys;

Fucking Dune. Its been done, but not well. I can totally either see a Total War set in the Dune universe (!!!) or a adventure/RPG game. Sword fights, politics, space travel, survival, sword fights, assassins, witches, laser guns, and sword fights? Hell yes.

A Mass Effect-like Dune game would be amazing.
Exactly. Let's get on this, man. The two of us can do it.
That would make one awesome game... Do it! Give me a copy! Need Music? haha.

A game set in the Discworld universe by Terry Pratchett or ...
I remember pitching a game on a similar thread a couple months ago. A Discworld MMO wherein you chose who you want to be, where you want to be from, what you want to do. Thieve's Guild, Assassin's Guild, Musician's Guild, Unseen University, simple life up in the Ramtops, simpler life down on the Djel or maybe you just want to do some PVP in the Mended Drum. Just remember to keep your coin purse tightly sealed around C.M.O.T. Dibbler. Maybe The Shades would serve as a larger PVP arena...

As for something different...I am tempted to mention the Darth Bane trilogy but I fear what it would become.
That sounds quite awesome. My idea was more of a Monkey Island, meets Fable, meets Trine based around Rincewind and some of his companions.

I would also hesitantly agree with the Darth Bane idea though I certainly fear what Lucas would do with it.
Well LucasArts made Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, a Jango Fett game. And that was actually pretty damn cool. While Lucas may be a cockmouth, LucasArts has been a pretty decent game company (depending on your view of Force Unleashed, I guess.)
Not to stray off topic but I actually thought that the Force Unleashed games were horrendous.
Compared to the Jedi Knight and Battlefront series (both made by LucasArts) you are 100% accurate. As a Star Wars fan it was a complete let down. Also, welcome to posting on the Escapist! But yes, I completely agree with you.

Yeah that was something I was worried about at first and to be honest I still haven't thought of anything to resolve that but if they found the right animation artist it would be amazing, I mean think of the possibilities of it as an MMORPG, you could be a Sky Pirate or a Leaguesman or a Knight Academic as well as any number of races and you could tame a load of interesting creatures and that's just the 1st age of flight. For the second there is yet more options (Freeglade Lancer for example) and you could have servers dedicated to each age.

EDIT: In hindsight I shouldn't have written that, it's just made me want it more even though I know it is almost guaranteed to never happen. :(

1) I would love a Bioware-developed Harry Potter RPG set in the books' back-story, during Voldemort's first rise to power. The first quarter of the game or so could be your character's time at Hogwarts, with the choices you make there affecting what the adult version of your character is like. Bonus points if they got JK Rowling to oversee the story/characters.

2) An open-world sandbox game set in the Discworld Universe would be awesome.

I definitely am. Will look into it, sounds fun :) OTT combat always makes me happy, one of the few reasons I enjoyed Exalted.

(I know everyone is going to say HP Lovecraft books already)
Sorry, mate. But it's already been done. And rather well, too. Although if you had asked me before I played Dark Corners, I would have said that wouldn't've worked.

Maybe a relatively large, linear open world (Well, you know what I mean. You play the missions to advance to next areas, but you can still explore) game based in Stephen Kings Dark Tower universes.
