As an aside, Terminal Lance's last comic touches on this, and they are also of the opinion that the way to be an NCO is to have a MOS with a low cutting score.

Though in a number of militaries, what separates NCOs from the rest is having completed an NCO training course that it is not remotely easy to complete.
