I would recommend a great read which is near and dear to me, "The Little Engine that Could". A great story of trial and tribulation in a society gone mad. A absolute classic that will fill you with minutes of suspense and horror as you frantically turn the pages to find out if the little engine in fact could have.

It's not really a horror story so much as a horrific story but I would highly recommend reading Koushun Takami's Battle Royale. It's a damn good book.

'The Bourne Identity' by Robert Ludlum.

The book was so much better than the film (and the film was pretty good).

I know it's not horror, but it still is a good read.

Like some people said, anything by Stephen King! i would start with "It", or "The Stand", but that's just me. I have read all of his books, all great, especially The Dark Tower series, its not horror, more fantasy/adventure, but great nonetheless.

Some good horror: "Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk, or "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski... Not traditional horror but REALLY good!
Some good other stuff: World World Z (it´s been said but the book is GREAT!), or for the season "Hogfather" by Terry Pratchett.
Or "Good Omens" by T. Pratchett and Niel Gaiman.

Well, my friends, I am bored and I am looking for something to read. I have just finished reading The Divine Comedy and Edgar Allan Poes tales and I need something new. I am looking for horror preferably. I've been thinking of maybe H.P. Lovecrafts Complete Works but I would like to hear your suggestions
If you're looking for horror, Lovecraft is your best bet.

There's a reason he's called the Master of Modern Horror.

Well I don't know much in the way of horror. But I shall reccomend you a tale of love, redemption and triumph in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world. My favourite book, Mortal Engines. Mind you there were about four books in the series and they're all good.

How was the Divine Comedy? I really want to read it.
I would recommend The Vampire Chronicles (Interview With the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned), it's very good, though it can be a bit hard to read sometimes. Also, Anne Frank's diary, it's not really a novel, but it made for a great read.
The Divine Comedy is amazing, I really recommend reading it. And I've read Anne Frank's diary it was great too

Bingo.

Or maybe the Illiad and the Odyssey? Homeric works are a good read.
Yes I read those and they were amazing, beyond doubt

Might I recommend Applied Behavior Analysis by Cooper, Heron, and Heward?

It is a riveting read, that is not pedantic at ALL! I also haven't had to grind through 12 chapters of it in the past few weeks.

The authors, I assure you, were not self-congratulating ass-hats.

Well, it's more fantasy than horror, but 'The Book of Lost Things' is fairly disgusting/bone-chilling at some parts.
Also, Stephen King is a safe bet.
