What are they doing? They gave me the glory of Borderlands, the excellent Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood, but now what?

The Duke Nukem Forever Demo was crap, and now they're making Brothers in Arms into Inglourious Borderlands!

What are they playing at?

Mmh, but have you only played the demo?
People are saying that the game is actually pretty good.

The real question here is...what's the discussion? :/.

Gearbox worked with what they were given, if you want to heap blame on someone for DNF being a shitty game then heap it on 3D realms because they're the ones who spent 13 some odd years mucking it up.

Wait, who's saying it's good? From what I've heard, it might as well be the antichrist.

LOL, nah some people say it's better than the demo showed it to be. But yeah, lots of people are condemning it xD.
Either way, I'm playing Devil's advocate; the DN series doesn't interest me:'].

Brothers in Arms looks fantastic. At least they are doing something different with the World War II genre and not making it another regular game set in that time.

Problem with Duke Nukem, as I see it, is, that a lot of gamers who are too young to have been around back in Duke's 3D (or even sidescrolling-) times, got hyped far too much for this game. Everybody who played the old games and STILL expected something else but a standard FPS with some dick jokes in it needs to get slapped hard.

But ya, I guess it's just that ppl who didn't know much about the Duke in the first place just expected something different than they got. I suppose the same is gonna happen to Rage.

Edit: By something different I mean "better".

And the new Brothers in Arms looks fantastic. So what if they rip off Tarantino? House of the Dead just got better by ripping him and Rodriguez off.

I'm from that age group, and own the original side-scrollers and Duke 3D.
Did I honestly think DNF was going to be good? Absolutely not.
I've seen this sort of developer-Hell before, and the result was far less than pleasant.

It seems to me, Gearbox are not to blame for DNF as 3D Realms didn't give them much to work with in the first place. Also, I'm pleased to see they are doing what they want with their franchises. Personally the new Brothers In Arms looks fun, not bland like the original games of that series. Borderlands is immense fun and I, for one, would love to see were they take the series next. :>

Off-Topic. Developers, make games and Players, play them, we should never try to upset this balance.

The current DNF was crap before it made its way to Gearbox. They essentially received the finished product and touched it up before selling it. It is crap that I won't be touching beyond the (painful) demo but I don't blame Gearbox.

As for Brothers in Arms: They are essentially creating a new IP, but to do it they are taking a horribly mediocre game in a sea of a million wannabe real and heavy shooters and are reinventing it while keeping an already established name. There are two great things about that. First, they get a new IP but without the financial insecurity that new IPs hold and second, no more painfully mediocre Brothers in Arms games.

Honestly, I thought the DNF demo was disappointing, but the full game is fantastic. On a technical level it's below standard, graphics are old, load times are long between levels and deaths, and the lip sync is the worst I've seen in a long time, but I'm having so much fun with that game. The army of Bruce Campbell and Schwarzenegger quotes, some really great levels navigating otherwise normal environments as Shrunk Duke, I think it's great fun.

I can see why people might be disappointed with the new direction for Brothers in Arms though. I just hope Aliens goes well.

Don't forget they're making Halo 4! Makes me think Gearbox are the people that make sequels to FPS franchises that were suppose to end. Think about it. After 3D realms closed down, we all thought DNF was finally gone for good. Instead Gearbox said they were making it. I thought Halo franchise would stop after Reach, but now Gearbox is making it.

No they're not. 343, a new studio made up of former Bungie employees is making it. Gearbiox are making Aliens: Colonial Marines, Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 and hopefully Borderlands 2.

Ah. I had heard a rumor it was Gearbox. Still, they're making the new Aliens game? I won't like that.

Because it's Gearbox or because it's Aliens?

Because it's Aliens. Gearbox is a good developer, don't get me wrong, but I've played so many aliens games, it seems ridiculous they're making another.

I guess, but then the last proper Aliens game I played (not counting the AVP games) was Alien Trilogy on PlayStation 1.

I loved that game. Where did this Gearbox are making Halo4 come from? I'm truthfully looking forward to DNF, I don't care that it's going to be a bad game I just want to play a shooter that isn't taking itself so seriously.

I have to greatly protest at what they did to the Brothers in Arms series, I actually felt physically sick when I saw it. To go from what was the most realistic and authentic game about WW2, with a great team management based mechanic, that really brought across the idea of the soldiers not just fighting, but living on the frontline, sleeping in ditches, bonding, the loss suffered when someone died, not just of a soldier, but a friend and companion. The franchise itself was applauded by verteran and historical groups; people who had probably never picked up a games console in their lives.

They turned it into something that is not even remotely sympathetic. Its completely and utterly deliberately inaccurate and immature. There is absolutely nothing in it to connect it to the other games. Sure the game may be fun, maybe even a real hit, but they shouldn't have soiled the respect that the Brothers In Arms franchise built for itself.
