Part of me thinks "yeah the world is shit" but then again, none of this really has a huge effect on my day to day life personally, so at least I can sit back and watch idiots scramble frantically to fix their stupid shit by doing stupider shit.

People are stupid.
That's the sad reality.
They look for problems where there aren't any
They continually try and make the world more and more PC, which inflicts upon our rights to free speech, among other things
They think they are better than everyone else, purely because of arrogance

That's why I'm glad I have escapism to turn to.

I just don't care. What if the world ends in 2012? Is not like I can do something about it.

Just turn off your TV. Don't check the web for news. Tune out.

Just try to make the best of what you've got and what you influence or have control over.

Nothing ever changes. The news is always bad. People worry over nothing. The only time people will have a chance to do anything about it, they will know it without having to watch the news, because it will involve them.

I agree with the anti-religious laws, but they should apply to both minaret and church. burka and jew-cap etc.

I'm generally a miserable bugger, and can usually find the dark side in everything.

Damn tho, there's a limit...

Ok, there's China, which I'm not sure has changed much since I was born, we're just having more info thrown at us.

All the racial and religious hate comes from us actually mixing more and being MORE integrated than we used to be and is actually a sign of things improving.

As for me personally, I don't think I'm REALLY that much worse off than I was 5 or 10 years ago, I'm sure some people are, but I genuinely don't believe we're all going to be starving in the streets a couple of years down the line, we're in a downturn, and soon enough we'll be back on the up, and things all work out in the end.

As so many before me have said, just don't worry about the news, they live thru scaremongering, simply relating facts is not enough any more.

I recommend Newswipe on BBC iPlayer as a nice behind the scenes look at how bloody idiotic news shows are.

Also, a vast amount of the more ridiculous stories about things getting banned, either by 'Europe' or 'the PC brigade' (who?) are entirely fabricated and only there to get a reaction, because it sells newspapers and its been shown a lot of people actually quite enjoy having a grumble about something. Combine that with the fact that as a national newspaper, you can pretty much print any bollocks over the front page and a double page spread inside, then a week later print an inch high 'sorry, we got some facts incorrect' on page 37, and that's all they need to do.

Why on earth wouldn't they tell us Belgium is banning bendy bananas or that muslim lesbian disabled asylum seeking benefit cheats are getting a free ferrari each?

Just ignore it and it won't really bother you, as I'm patently not proving right here :D

Wekk humanity is stupid, I used to get pretty upset about all the bad things, but I realised it didn't do any good, so I decided to simply not care anymore, and just focus on my own well being.

Soushi: (This has probably already been said, but I don't care)

The world has always, always been screwed up. It's not getting better or worse. Maybe it's getting faster, but that's all. Worrying fixes nothing.

Well, any issue about China can be solved by listening to Liberty Prime for three hours.

You'll feel much better.

Is there like a list of quotes for that? Because that was honestly the funniest thing I've ever heard possibly ever in a video game.
Yes, look it up on Youtube. Something like "Liberty Prime best speeches" should do it.

Watch this if you watched a certain awesome TV show when you were younger.

I guarantee it will cheer you up.
That show pissed me right off. As a kid, I'd always wonder why an Aardvark (yes, that is what arthur is supposed to be) is bigger than a puppy (as it happens, it only comes up to his ankle). Lots of other things annoyed me about the show, but that was the one that sticks for some reason.
It's a cartoon intended for kids. I highly doubt realism was one of the artist's top priorities.

-Warning, very depressing thread -

I can usually deal with this stuff, but today i have finally snapped. This is getting ridiculous!!! Has the world gone mad? Have we lost all shreds of common sense! What on Earth can we do to fix all of this! Is no one else banging their heads against the wall!!!

- France is thinking of banning the Burka in some places, even for people who WANT to wear them
- Certain European countries have banned the little towers on mosques, something akin to banning a cross on the tops of churches if I am not mistaken
- Australia is banning things left right and center, setting their standards like in 198-fucking-4
- In China, the ability to make cheap little plastic toys are more important than workers rights
- Religious nuts in the US are getting ridiculous amounts of attention and air time
- People are scientifically arguing that the world will end in 2012
- China doesn't give two shits what the world thinks of them anymore
- Canada is going frigging insane with its Olympic regulations
- The economy is in the crapper, yet thousands and thousands of people are spending way beyond their means
- The media is filled with more private interests than ever before
- And the cherry on top, this generation is going to live shorter lives than the last one, a trend not seen since the f*cking DARK AGES!!!
I...i just... this is all so..... AAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGGG!!!!! *thump*

What can we do? What do you do? How do you cope? What is some light news?
This generation's going to live shorter lives than the last one? Can you elaborate, I feel I've missed something rather crucial. (and compared to the other news, quite relevant)
From my understanding: STD's are more prevelant and deadly especially the Aids epidemic. smoking and second hand smoke is killing us off still, even though it is less prevelant than before, obesity and heart disease has reached insane levels (in my part of teh world anyways)and is going to shorten a LOT of lives, weakness due to sitting at computers for hours on end and eating bad food, skin cancer and other cancers cause our ozone layer is fucking GONE!!!, Lack of essential nutrients and vitamins as a result of said staying in doors. and probable occurrences that will result from global warming such as natural disaster, famine, war and disease.
Then again, this generation hasn't died yet, so this is just a projection. Maybe it will not come to be. And please keep in mind, i am no expert, this is just waht i have been able to gather.

Oh I see, well that makes sense, I took a completely different spin to the idea.

In any case I assume you're right, I'm fairly positive I'm gonna die from either cancer or a rather traumatic stab to the face. I didn't know vitamins were a huge issue, I actually thought people tend to consume excess amounts to the point of redundancy what with them being handed out in huge bottles of pills. (though I assume this makes people prioritize some vitamins and neglect anything they haven't heard of)

Well its nice to know we're screwed, personally I could care less to survive beyond 40. For now at least.

That's the thing though, we aren;t screwed. We just need to exercise a little common sense. Your life is what you make it, so make good choices and it will be strong.

What we should have done was design a sugar and fat substitute that was cheap and worked well, THEN designed all the foods we love with those already in place.

Then we could all drink soda and eat pizza and donuts all day without worry.

I tell ya, the first person to come up with a WORKING fat or sugar substitute is gonna be sooo rich. BY working, I mean when you taste it you don't go 'whats this diet shit?'

On a more sensible note, why the hell we can't send expired foods to third world countries I don't know.

Do starving africans really care that a tin of food is a week past sell by?

Trouble is, I imagine it's fear of lawsuits, and I blame a lot of the worlds ills on frivolous lawsuits. It's so often now safer to do nothing, than try to do good, because if 'good' goes wrong in any way, suddenly you as the good guy are liable to be sued. I was always told the last thing you do in a car collision is say 'sorry' even tho it's natural, as it's admitting liability.

Sadly, if we saved a million lives by sending our slightly out of date food, but 3 people got sick from it... those 3 people would have a lawyer flying over to take their case and sue the people who sent the free food.

Note I'm not knocking all lawyers, I know the majority went into the career wanting to do the right thing, but I'm talking about the ambulance chasers 'as seen on TV'.
