Worry that it might not be back on in time to print out my assignments as "electronic difficulties" are an unaccepted excuse for extensions at my university.

:(

Start hand writing said assignments.

I sleep.

Once, my power was out for thirty six hours straight.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, was a nap.

You make this sound so very hypothetical... Y'all need to come live in the third world!

We have Eskom as our only supplier of electricity. They are USELESS! In Winter they don't have enough power for the whole country, but they send a lot of it away to other countries at cheaper rates! And they have blackouts often, especially if you are in an area they don't find important.

Also, our power pole gets hit a lot by drunks on Saturday nights. That leaves you powerless for up to two days. In fact, they once didn't repair the pole for FIVE DAYS when it SNOWED. My dad was alone in the house as the rest of us were on Holiday, so he suffered alone, during the coldest week of the year, with no power.

OP: Read everything you can, every book, label and set of cooking instructions within 50 metres.

If the sun is still shinning then I solar charge my laptop. If the power is out I have 4 charged batteries for it.

I had an power our a couple of years ago (when my bro came over for Easter). Well I try to have some random conversation talks with my bro like old time when it happen. Needless to say it didn't work.
I suppose what I would do without my bro this time is just play some old games on my GBA (DS rely on the charger) and read I guess.

Grab a guitar and write some riffs.
sleep
Go grocery shopping
read
wank
Set something on fire as sacrifice to appease bring back the power
Take a walk and get lost in the woods
Set something on fire just because
Try to make contact with aliens
Masturbate
Attempt to take down a terrorist cell by myself with a BIC blue pen
Build perpetual motion machine to create free power
Attempt to summon the elder gods
"Alone time"

There are a lot of things to do during a black out

Running around the streets chanting football songs like idiots is always fun...

Also, start a campfire and play acoustic guitar.

I was waiting for someone to say this, but remember that it only lasts so long and eventually you'll get tired of it. Especially with no porn to watch, just to look at if you somehow still have magazines.

OP, the last time our power was out for an extended period of time I had this thing called an original Game Boy Advance, and it took these things called triple A batteries. I also had a light source that also took triple A batteries. You had to replace these batteries when they ran out. It just so happens that my dad had just bought a huge pack of them a little while before the storm hit, so I spent an entire week doing nothing but going through my meager collection of Game Boy Advance games. I think I beat Metroid Fusion 12 times, and I had a Crash Bandicoot game on Game Boy. I played them to death.

So, next time the power goes out and your cellphone, your PSP, your DS, your 3DS, your SP, and your laptop battery dies, look back on the days of batteries you had to replace and go "damn it, I wish I could do that again..."

Or you could just buy a bunch of replacements, but not everything has a way to replace the battery.

Also, OP, how are you typing this if your power is out and you have no way to recharge a laptop and no way to turn on a router? Do you have a generator? Just wondering. Also, might you have any relatives or friends who live somewhere where you could get power?
1. if you get tired of it, you're obviously not doing it right.

2. i don't need porn, i have a girlfriend, and a good imagination.

3. wow someone likes batteries a bit too much....

You're saying you could masturbate for about 16 hours a day, or have sex with your girlfriend for that long, the other 8 for sleeping? You'd have to find something else to fill your time.

No, it isn't that I like batteries, it's just that I saw an advantage. A lot of people seem to think that when the power goes out, you can just listen to an iPod or play a portable game. But the batteries on those will die sometime, and having something that uses double A's nearby - that would be quite handy in a situation.
since when does the power go out for 16 hours? where you live must suck.... but i don't see how batteries are a major advantage. they are really wasteful and most things nowadays have a long battery life, and even if the do die, you can always read a book, see your girlfriend, and i know this might sound scary, but you can always go out and socialize...

Once the handheld consoles have died I'll light up some candles and catch up on some reading. I have a Silver Surfer GN to finish up actually, and Pyramids by Pratchett.

Get the flares, and watch out for shadowy rednecks.

And whatever you do, listen to the diver, and don't. Write. Anything.
